Is the Note 7 still waterproof if I have the pen out and am using it?

Re: Is it Still Waterproof if...

Because I am not going to tell someone to put an electronic device in the water. I am going to tell them if you want to do that, get a guaranteed waterproof case.

Water damage voids the warranty. I'm here to help, not encourage someone to do something with their phone that might ruin it.

Thanks for your personal feedback of me!

See, that's the thing...the OP wasn't asking for a warning. I highly doubt he was about to backflip off a diving board into the Dead Sea with their Note 7. They simply wanted to know about the rating without the pen.

And you're welcome! I'm always available for further analysis upon request. Inquire within for office hours and rates.

You have a nice day, you hear?

As much as samsung had lil Wayne dunk the S7 in the fish tank and pour champagne all over the phone. I doubt they'll void the warranty for water damage

Ok, last thing. The operations manager at Samsung told me all water damage voids the warranty, it is in all paperwork you sign.

You want to use your phone in water, go for it. I would suggest you contact Samsung Plus and verify the warranty and water damage on the phone.

Honestly, I just wanted to know for the shower and if it's raining outside, if I should keep the pen in or if I'd be ok taking it out. Several people answered my question and I should be good to go. Thanks for the help!

Rain outside you should be fine. You don't want to stand in a downpour.

The spen has the same rating.

The water resistant rating is for accidents, not for a waterproof phone. Every year that Samsung has a water resistant phone, people buy a new phone and dunk it in water and then get upset if water gets in and there is water damage and no warranty.

I'll be using my N7 on a selfie stick to take underwater pics and videos of my fish inside my 160 gallon fish tank

I really do get what you're saying but Samsung is deliberately misleading people by showing the phones underwater. If it has a water contact sensor that voids the warranty, then they should NOT be showing the phones underwater.

They should just list it as IP68 and state that it may be protected during ACCIDENTAL submersion or splashes.

I believe it's a false campaign. Sure, I know there are manuals and terms of agreement. There are even super tiny print on the commercials. Still, it's wrong of them to void the warranty if you use it as they advertise it.

This is like watching a lawnmower commercial, in which the mower is mowing grass, buying said mower, using it to cut grass, as was done in said commercial, then it breaks and they don't offer warranty service. No matter what the consumer responsibility is, it's a very middle finger campaign. Samsung I mean.

If you show your **** underwater, then you damn well better back it up with a proper warranty.

With that said, I'll be using mine in the shower. Which is probabaly a horrible idea as steam may be able to penetrate easier than full submersion?

Also, "****" is censored but "damn" isn't. Weird.

This is where Samsung is so shady. It is indeed a touchy subject but one that put the blame on their customer instead of themselves. I honestly don't know if anything Samsung advertise is actually real. With that said, I think it would be possible to sue Samsung for false advertising if one get a very good lawyer. Samsung have had lawsuits against them before and lost but I'm not sure if this was one of them. I still be wary. However if you use it for less than 30 minutes and at 1 feet of water or less and it got water damage, then I would definitely take Samsung to court since that what they recommend with their phone. As long as it not under 5 feet of water and longer than 30 minutes.

The phone retains its rating with or without the S Pen inserted. Meaning, if the Note 7 gets wet with the S Pen inserted you won't have to worry about the water damaging the device through the opening as it's still protected.

Some information on the rating: The Galaxy Note 7 is waterproof with an IP68 rating http://www.androidcentral.com/galaxy-note-7-waterproof-ip68-rating

Thanks. I think everyone has a solid understanding that what you've said it's reality. At the same time, let people discuss the IP68 feature of this phone without derailing the thread each time. Maybe we could have a sticky where you just repeat that it's water RESISTANT and not water PROOF? Thanks for making sure people know this, because it is important. But I think everyone is covered now.
