Is the pixel 2 xl's display the same as v30?

Phew. Verge says it's definitely better than the V30's.

Let me add to this a bit...

Verge says that it doesn't have all of the same issues as the V30, however the display is still bad on the Pixel 2 XL, according to both Verge and Android Central. I am happy to see that reviewers are not trying to hide the faults. Both are reporting major color shifting, excessively washed out colors even for a calibrated display, inconsistent color from top to bottom of the display, and visible grain. This is mind you exactly how every other POLED panel I have used in the past has behaved (hence why I am still not convinced that Samsung is using a plastic substrate, despite Android Authority article, and if they are, the technology is years ahead of that of LG).

I'm still going to look forward to trying this phone, but the weak display and lack of headphone jack will relegate it to my pile of "buy off of Craigslist" phones. For the price that Google is asking, these issues cannot be overlooked.

A little confused by your statement/question. But the screen on the Pixel 2XL is supposed to be of higher quality and better pixel density then that of the Pixel 2.

Oh sorry...I didn't clarify I was basing the quality of the panel on the AC review of the XL2 screen.

I don't think they are the same panel. This article shows the two phones with grey backgrounds in dark lighting and they look completely different.

Well, the AC one said it is like it a bit in the video review. The reviews of the XL screen have not been great so far.

At least it doesn't have banding and uneven lighting like the V30. All reviews are saying it's dull/dim/bland etc. but this was a conscious decision by Google to go for accuracy over saturation. Our eyes generally think saturated looks more visually appealing so this isn't a shock. I think once we use it for a few days it will be just fine as we adjust to it.

The ac review also mentioned the "visible, distracting, bad looking" bluish tint with even a slight tilt of the screen. Having lived without the v20 for the past year, I'm getting tired of lg's crappy screens. I was really hoping they'd turn it around this year but i think I'll stay away from their phones for the near future.

I've enabled the sRGB color setting in the dev options on my Nexus 6p since about the first week I owned it (and had to re-engage it each time there was an update). Each time for the first few minutes it was shocking how "washed out" sRGB looked compared to the (ridiculously oversaturated) colors in the default setting, but after an hour or so of use I'd stop noticing, and my ability to edit colors, watch known movie content, etc., was far superior. That said, my wife always leaves her Pixel at the default color settings, and she thinks my screen looks dull compared to hers.

So it comes down to what you value in a screen, but I suspect most people will get used to the color tuning in short order. I'm just glad that most reviews aren't seeing the banding or blotchiness that some V30 units had.

The reviews of the XL display are pretty disappointing. Seems like it ruins a great phone, up to the user to decide if it is a deal breaker or not.

I've heard pretty good things about the V30 overall, and that the display is good. If you are concerned about screen quality on the Pixel 2 XL, however, I recommend going to a store with display models and playing around with them. One reviewer's view or opinion of the screen/display/colours may not necessarily match your own impressions. Don't worry just yet! Check it out and see what you think!

They didn't say the display was bad, they said it wasn't as good as some of the competition. There's a difference there.

I currently have the V30 and it's screen is horrible especially on white backgrounds and lesser brightness. Shows banding and doesn't look close at anything like a good screen should like. Not saying that 2 XL will be the same, even if it's Pixel 2 XL offers a lot more what I need so I can live with the display (may be) when compared to V30 which along with bad screen has disappointing software.

I guess we have to wait for the reviews for the Pixel 2 XL to come out, and I'll have to see the screen myself to decide, but these comments on the LG V30 screen do concern me.

I think seeing it for yourself is the best bet. I try not to let what other people or reviewers say influence me too much. The reviews help, but it's always different when I experience the device for myself.

The use case for the angled viewing angle is when you + a friend are viewing the screen, i.e. when I want to show family members a video of my kids.

Also, checking your screen when it's on your desk at work 50+ times a day.

I could tolerate a dirty/bluish tint for checking your screen on your desk. Well maybe not if it's a $850+ phone. Having the same issue when viewing videos with others, that would be a deal breaker.
I have the 'ugly' pixel 2 on its way. One of the reasons I picked the 2 vs 2 XL is LG's not so good history with QC and displays in general.

This. Most times I'll leave my phone on my desk while reading an article or watching a video. Bad viewing angles can really ruin the experience for me.

Everyone. You're hardly ever looking at your display perfectly perpendicular. So far the reviews say that even smallest shifts in angle result in tinting. It will be noticeable.

Those pics make it look horrible with the "grainy" look.
