Is there a way to change the clock on the lock screen on the S8?

My thing is... Does anyone actually spend time on the lock screen? My always on display is always on. Lol. I press power or home and facial recognition almost instantly unlocks the phone. So why so much bother about it? (this is a question, not a judgment.)

My sentiments exactly!

(PROBABLY) A SIMPLE SOLUTION

By chance I discovered that simply installing the stock google watch app

https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...d=com.google.android.deskclock&token=EgId9V-r

will bring you back

* the "normal" clock on the homescreen
* ability to set the clock as screensaver ( -> BEDSIDE MODE while charging!!!!!!!)

HOWEVER:
you have to disable the "(immediate) LOCK device with ON/OFF button"-function (sorry i have a german operating system so i don't know the exact wording of the function in the (device) security menu. i personally set the time for the automatic lock to 2 (!!!) minutes (for some reason it does not work with 1 minute...), so this is not bothering me.

what i also did is setting the google watch as SCREENSAVER. don't know exactly if this also affects the behavior of the clock on the homescreen, but i use this feature primarily as clock while charging overnight ("bedside mode").

Hope this will work for you guys!

Cheers from Austria
Alex

Everyone I figured it out.

Go to settings.
Click on lock screen and security.
Scroll down and click on Always on Display
Then under clock style, choose the style you want.
Click on that clock and then you can customize it from there.

You're welcome.

It worked for me. New Samsung s8 for my job. Disliked the checkerboard clock by default. But after clicking the checkerboard clock in the aod section I chose a normal 12:00 look. It survived lock button and reboot. Now lock screen has easy to read clock all times.

That is the AOD screen not the Lock Screen clock, there are 2 separate clocks..

Thought i would post here with a solution since i initially came across this forum looking for an answer on how to get rid of the stacked clock on the Lock Screen for my note 8 i just got today in Australia.

I agree the stacked clock is horrible looking on all 3 screens;
AOD - Locked Screen - Home Screen

Currently via settings you cannot change the clock style on the locked screen and it was driving me nuts.
However there is a way without having to change the theme as some have suggested which i found did not work.

Work-around:

The clock in the locked screen will show nicely only when there is at least one notification showing. What i did was i searched in the play store 'notification maker' and downloaded the free app which allows me to create a notification note that does not clear away when you press the clear button.

Only thing is, at the top of your notification bar you will see a notification icon when you unlock the screen; but its better than seeing that ugly stacked clock every time i want to check the time or my phone while locked.

Hope this helps

I have found a way to finally do it. Unfortunately you will need to download Lookout security from the app store. The clock will not switch back as long as there's a notification on the screen which is why I have Lookout security. If you download it you will need to make sure that in the settings that you have the show sticky status icon enabled. Then you can have any theme clock you want. I had to restart my Note 8 for it to take effect. Also as long as the do not disturb is on this will also make the clock stay and not switch back. I hope this will help some of you. I also hate the standard clock. It drove me crazy.

Am I missing something? My lock screen clock is horizontal (although it's in color).

Here is my lock screen. I use the sd-black theme from aire.

Wow, Samsung needs to fix this pronto! Worst looking clock design for a lock screen ever AND NO WAY TO CHANGE without doing a bunch of tricks. Pathetic! I just paid $1000 for this phone and I can't even hardly read the freaking clock! Pissed!

Wow this is unbelievable. Such a simple thing. Major screw up. The stacked clock is so unintuitive. Who reads a clock like that? I didn't even realize it was a clock at first. Makes me want to take this thing back. So dumb.

I finally figured it out. I know this post is old but I figured someone would find this as helpful as I did. To get the clock to be horizontal I went to lock screen settings, enabled notifications for the weather channel (you may find another app that will work for you if you don't want the weather channel). Doing that caused a weather notification to stay on the lock screen and caused the clock to stay horizontal instead of the ridiculous default clock.

Is there anyway to change the color of the lockscreen clock and widgets (I can change the AOD clock colors). When I use a light background I can not read the white text..... especially sucks for music controls....

I took this VERY bad pic of my phone. It has the all time display on, and as you can see, barely, it has the time and day on top of an icon I uploaded, with a quote below it. I just went to settings, then to Lock screen and Security, and then I clicked on the words, "Always on Display", NOT the toggle switch, but the actual words. Then it took me to the next page where you get a selection of clocks you can use, even a clock and a calendar, or no clock on the face and just having the info on the side screen. Or like I did, up load your own picture and have the clock info on top of it, and a quote below it if you want a quote. You might need the latest upgrade for this, not sure, if it doesn't work, try going to settings, then down to system updates and see if there's and update for your phone.

Re: Post # 65.
That worked great, I chose the international clocks that are side by side.
Thanks Darin!

I've messed around so much with my themes, etc that I don't know how to get them back to the factory defaults.
Does anyone know which theme and icons to use for my S8 to bring it back to the factory look.
I used the weather app fix for the lock screen clock problem, so thanks for that.
