Is there a way to get Text message previews on LOCK screen when in PIN MODE?

I have Jelly Bean on the GS3, and am wondering if there's a way to get Texts previewed on the lock screen when I have PIN mode enabled? I.e how iOS does it? Kind of annoying to have to enter the pin and then check the message manually.

Also, is there a way to setup "shortcuts" when in Pin mode?

And an unrelated question: Should I have MMS "Auto Retrieve" off or on with this phone, considering I usually have Wifi on and Mobile Data turned off (to save battery)
