Is updating to 2.0.1 even worth doing?

Wow I'm shocked to hear of the problems some are having. I noticed very little cosmetic changes, a bunch of OS/UI improvements and no downfalls.

The OS runs a lot faster and moving between the 3 home screens is even smoother and quicker with the flick of a finger. Not too sure about the battery improvement yet, still tracking that.

Sorry to hear the problems people are having. Don't know what to say. Hopefully Google will listen and help.

That is precisely what I had said previously about the update. Honestly, I don't want to say I'm flabbergasted that some people are having issues, as no update is PERFECT and there will be some problems.

But what irks my mind is how there is a decent amount of people who are claiming that their browser speed and scrolling has been significantly slower then before the update. I've had absolutely zero drop in my browser performance.

The only thing I can really think of is maybe under certain environments and settings each individual user has, it might be affecting how the updated OS operates when using the browser, market and etc?

Another issue that is bugging the hell out of me with my Droid is how many apps keep opening in the background and I have nothing installed on my phone other then task killer.

The Calender keeps opening up for no apparent reason and Ive yet to honestly open the thing since I did my factory reset. Messaging keeps opening up even though Im not sending/recieving texts. The "talk" service keeps opening up. Voice dialer continues to open up on its own. Corporate calender keeps opening up. I keep having 5+ apps constantly opening on me for no damn reason and Its bugging the hell out of me. So much that Im going to call Verizon today to see if I can go exchange my phone for a new one.

As for the web browser and scrolling speeds. Not sure what to tell ya to be honest. The updates been a complete disaster over on my end in all honesty. One of the main reasons I got the Droid was for the browser experience now post update, I hardly use it because of the slow load times and extremely slow scrolling speeds. Its pathetic really. Sorry, just venting about the lame update...

Mine does the same. I think they all run these items. I'm just trying to find a way to keep them from opening. I dont think a replacement phone is going to fix this

While I can see how this might annoy you, this is not a bug, and is expected. These apps are configured to run in the background, or start up at scheduled time periods to check for alerts/notifications and things like that, unfortunately even if you don't use them. This might even be hard coded either in the apps themselves or in the firmware because I too have turned off notifications on some apps (like messages ) and it does show up in the task list. At first I was killing them like mad myself and wondering what was triggering it, but I tried all the menu/setting options per app and could not get it to stop.

All that said, the amount of memory these stock apps use is fairly low and I have not experienced the least bit of performance gain from trying to manage this space myself by using a task killer. Unless someone can provide evidence that these apps coming on intermittently causes performance degradation, I'm in the camp that just ignores it.

A perfect example is the Calendar. If you have it synced to your Gmail account, it will automatically open it in the background to sync, even if you already killed it previously.
