Is your Pixel 3 spontaneously rebooting after Android 10?

Ugh.

I've been using Blokada for several weeks. It works okay. I still want AdGiard back but it's something.

Here I am back in this thread with hope that the AdGuard issue has been fixed.

I received this AM an update via Google Play for Google Connectivity Services. It's listed as version V21prod (4057 sdk29), released on November 7th (and obviously sent to me via carrier pigeon).

The "what's new" section mentions several improvements to VPN connections:

I've flipped the AdGuard switch back on. Will report back if the reboot issue is still present.

Saw and thought the same thing. Please let us know if it reboots on you.

Nope.

Made it through the day, but sometime overnight the Pixel 3 XL rebooted. :-\

Well this is interesting My 3xl just rebooted on it's own for no reason. First time I've noticed it do this. Time to keep an eye on it . I'm not running add guard or anything like that .

I've caught 3 reboots the past couple of days. Once using the camera, once starting up Google Play Music and once while going through settings. They're not full reboots ... Screen goes blank then the "G" pops up and I'm at the lockscreen. It's a fairly quick reboot. Can't seem to duplicate or find a particular trigger.

The trigger we found previously is using the AdGuard app. Do you use that? if so, there's your problem.

If you don't have AdGuard, do you use any VPN related app? AdGuard has stated the issue ios with Google and VPN and that Google has to fix it on their end.

If you don't have anything using a VPN, this would be the first I've heard of the "short reboot" occurring outside of that. In fact, the only VPN issue I've seen with the "short reboot" is Adguard in particular. Others have used Blokada without a problem, and certainly there are many people using other VPN apps.

Any chance you use a VPN or other app that creates a VPN?

AdGuard claims the issue with it's app is on the Google side and to do with VPN. Although, I've yet to see any sort of similar issues from anyone not using AdGuard.

No AdGuard or any ad blocking and I'm not using VPN ...

Just did a factory reset ... Will see how it goes

I'm not using adguard or a VPN . I wasn't use my phone at the time . It was sitting on the couch next to me and I happened to look over as it rebooted.

OK, as I mentioned yesterday, I don't recall hearing about any of these "short reboot" issues with other VPN or VPN creating apps. Only AdGuard.

Please correct me if there is actually a known issue that affects VPN apps more broadly, other than AdGuard, in Android 10.

If there isn't a broadly known issue, I'm starting to think it may be AdGuard's issue to fix...or more likely, that it can't be fixed and this is the end of (non-rooted) AdGuard? I used Blokada for a bit and it didn't seem to reboot my Pixel 3 XL, and others have mentioned using it instead of AdGuard, as well.

I installed dnspipe by Frostnerd from the Play Store this morning. I'd used it for a short time a year-and-a-half ago. It allows you to set your DNS servers across WiFi and cellular connections. That's something resident in AdGuard, so I didn't need a standalone app (and really only need it for cellular connections, since my home network is already using Cloudflare).

dnspipe, like AdGuard, sets up a VPN on the phone (data does not leave the phone). I'm no expert on this topic, so if there's a significant technical difference to the VPN created by a (non-rooted) ad blocker and a DNS changer, please comment.

Given that AdGuard has blamed the issues on Google VPN functionality, I want to see if dnspipe causes any sort of rebooting issues.

I'll report back.

Thanks for any feedback.

No reboot issues after more than 24 hours with dnspipe (and its VPN) running. Pixel 3 XL would have given me the short reboot by now if I had AdGuard on.

I'm still using Blockada and I think it does a decent job. I think AdGuard does more but Blokada is okay. Best part - no reboots. If you would like some of AdGuard's features in place while we wait for a fix, I think it's a good option. I'll switch back to AdGuard though when I can.

Thanks. I've used Blokada before. It is a good alternate option.

The only issue I have with Blokada is that sometimes it just stops. I have it excluded from battery optimization. I just have to open the app and it turns back on. Minor issue.

I don't know when the Pixel 3 update actually started hitting devices. It's still delayed on the 4. If you already got it, have you tried AdGuard again?

I got the update on my 3 XL on Tuesday. I'm running AdGuard now. We'll see.
