Issue with new Gmail application - how to archive?

I have the newest version of the Gmail application, and I've read as much as I can. One thing I cannot figure out is how to archive a conversation that is in the inbox, but NOT one of the new tabs. She the screenshot here. The first conversation is clearly in the Inbox, but I cannot archive it.

  • Swiping in either direction deletes it or removes the lable from the conversation
  • When I open it, I can change labels, but not remove from the inbox

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the response, but what down arrow? I don't see that.

The icons I have will remove the label, allow me to reply all, move to another folder, or see the sender details, but I don't have a down arrow that archives...

Go into the settings, and you may have to choose where it shows 'archive and delete', 'archive only' or 'delete only'. That may solve it.

I found those settings and it initially was set to "Show archive only." I'm not sure what that's referring to.

I changed it to "Show archive & delete," but the behavior hasn't changed. Still no luck.

That makes sense - what they say in the post about "To archive a specific e-mail, open your e-mail and tap the grey box on the right that has a downward facing arrow on it." But the issue I have is when that arrow isn't there!

I have it set up that way. What I'm describing, and the situation I'm in is when you take the following steps:

- Go to one of your labels - not the tabs from the new Gmail set up - but a label (like for mine it was "Phones")
- Open a message that is in the label and also in the inbox.
- This is where I don't see an option to archive - just the icons from my earlier post.
