It seems like there's a new bad LG G4 review every day.

Bad reviews are the least of your worries LG owner's. Read the report of a serious vulnerability that LG says will only be fixed in future handsets.
Security vulnerability in LG’s Update Center application - SEARCH-LAB

"Since no fix will be available for this issue due to business decisions made by LG, we recommend turning off “Auto app update” and use Update Center application to update or install any apps on trusted Wi-Fi networks only."

In other words, update at your home's Wi-Fi network and you're safe.

Anthony, how's your phone now? Is it performing any better?

On mine, all apps open the instant I touch on them.

Yup. Post update it's great. Still a few missed inputs here and there but no more lag!

Actually it's in other words don't worry about it because it doesn't affect the G4.

I like my VzW G4 more and more every day. Just for kicks, I tried out a GS6 during lunch yesterday. Was even less impressed with it after getting used to my new device; the G4 stayed loyal to the characteristics that endeared me with Android phones in the first place. Right now, the only nuisance has been a choppy auto brightness and I'm not sure how to set the Lux app for the functionality I'd like (i.e. to be on par with other phones).
I went thru two g4's I could not get a good signal at all so it used the battery very quick searching for the signal and I did work with Verizon so I had everything set up right plus wifi would not work on both phones so they made me switch to a different phone after two of them and I got a note 4 and everything works great.
I really think Verizon just had a bad batch of g4's at there store
Other than that I did like the phone and would try it again

Just make sure you do not have "Auto App Updates" on, then you can at least verify any application updates.

Good advice. Here's how:
Settings -> About phone -> Update Center -> App Updates ->
Three vertical dots/setting in upper right/settings,
Auto-update apps turn to "off" (which is always a good idea anyway!)

I have some issues with the G4, but I also have issues with every other Android phone available, and I have owned almost all of them at one point or another. The perfect phone for me simply does not exist as of now.

Issues with G4 (current daily driver):
-Touchscreen isn't very sensitive and occasionally misses taps. It doesn't happen very often for me, but it does happen. Hopefully this is improved with updates.
-Camera image processing sometimes applies too much noise reduction and / or sharpening.
-LG's software isn't as well designed as Google's, HTC's, or even Samsung's. Ugly colors, ugly icons, and less pretty animations. Thankfully Google provides most of their apps in the Play Store.
-Notifications sometimes can't be expanded without hiding the quick settings.
-Third party launchers don't perform that well on the G4. Google Now Launcher and Nova are mostly smooth, most of the time, but occasionally they start dropping frames and scrolling a little choppy, which doesn't happen on other phones.
-The chrome plastic on the sides of the phone is cheap feeling.

Issues with S6 (have owned it since launch, but about to sell it):
-The screen is too oversaturated in adaptive mode and too warm in basic mode. Also, it looks a little splotchy when displaying dark colors in dim light.
-Camera doesn't have good manual controls.
-Samsung's memory management forces apps out of memory way too quickly, meaning apps have to reload when switching back to them all the time.
-Scrolling performance in Chrome sucks.
-Meh battery life, especially in standby.
-Speaker is very high pitched and ear piercing at high volumes.
-Cell reception isn't great.
-Super slippery glass on the back means I had to put it in a case.

Issues with Nexus 6 (haven't owned it, but I know these things from playing with it):
-Screen is too oversaturated, and many are too warm.
-Camera is meh compared to the G4 and S6.
-Too big to use with one hand.
-Slippery back.

Issues with Note 4 (only owned this sucker for a couple days before returning it):
-The screen is too oversaturated in adaptive mode and too warm in basic mode.
-Camera isn't very good in low light compared to the G4 and S6.
-Camera doesn't have good manual controls.
-Laggier than the G4, S6, and Nexus 6. Can't handle it.

One M9 (Owned an M7 and M8, but not the M9. Can't deal with HTC's crappy cameras any more.):
-Worst camera of them all.

A G4 with better touch sensitivity, stock Android (except for LG Camera app), image processing from the S6, and metal sides instead of chrome plastic would be pretty baller.

I've found that a lot of the mainstream media like both phones but tend to point out LG G4's "glaring" issues than the S6 ones.

Yes, they will complain loudly about the plastic build or "just" using the 808 chip but give hardly a mention to the S6 battery and lag issues. I'm not even necessarily partisan for LG, even though I own a G4... If Samsung made the S6 with 5.5" screen, my decision would have been even closer.

That's unfortunate. I've had a pretty good string of luck, since my Bionic finished with its teething issues. But towards the last few updates, my GS4's battery life was sorely lacking, even with brand new batteries.

From the XDA thread, post # 109 "...The people who aren't having problems have no reason to read through these threads or read through any threads, as most don't read forums about their phones. We're a small sub-section."

In other words people with problems are more likely to read that thread and vote in the poll.

I believe that you and others are having lag issues, and I hope you can give another G4 a try. I wish the XDA thread correlated the problems with the LG Model. What percentage of the problems occur in the Verizon model? We have no idea. I've had two G4's that were problem free, H815 and H811. Nobody should accept a less than perfect device. I'm still not convinced this is a widespread problem that span all the models of the G4.

I bought an iPad Air 2 right before Christmas. Somehow, angainst my better judgement, I started reading a thread on Apple's iPad forums about a popping/snapping noise on the new Air 2s. From reading the thread, you would think the Air 2 is a total POS to be avoided....that rants about "How could Apple make such a defective product!" practically screamed from my computer screen. I started thinking the reason mine hadn't popped, was because it hadn't happened, yet. A few people tried to calm the fears of the poor souls cursed with a tablet that popped and snapped when they did XYZ, to no avail.

First - Mine never did pop :-)
Second - most of us admitted the place for people with problems is a thread about that problem, so naturally, one would think a very high percentage of people with the device are having that same problem.
Third - Apple did eventually release an update for iOS that fixed it.

I don't remember reading one bad review about this phone before its US release. Now it seems I see a new one every day, and it's usually about lag and touchscreen issues which we're all aware of. How is it that not one pre release test unit suffered from these issues? Could it be related to carrier added software post LG?

There are bad reviews about every device on every device forum. Generally, people who have issues are the ones who post, not the vast majority who have no issues.
