I've Got to Decide on a Wireless Charger

I purchased the S5 SlimPWRcard - 0.5mm Qi Receiver for Samsung Galaxy S5 SV on Amazon.

This is official right, I bought it on eBay.

I don't have a link but I also have the Nillkin Wireless Charging Orb $25 shipped, I bought when I had my nexus 5.

It does add bulk and my Case Mate tough Sport barely fits where the headphone jack doesn't line up and sticks out a little. LOL

The case is useful because I installed my Mountek plate (for the nGroove Snap car dock) in it. So now I whenever I want to charge my S5 I just swap the back covers.

What carrier are you with? I don't know why it wouldn't be, but the listing says
"* NOT COMPATIBLE WITH VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 PHONE"

Strange. I have the official and it works well on Verizon.

I got tired of waiting for Samsung to release the black charging cover, so I actually went to AT&T and purchased one there. And it fits perfect on my verizon phone. No idea why have it listed as not working with Verizon, there are no physical differences between carriers, outside of carrier branding.

No one. Don't believe anyone that tells you otherwise. You can either use the Official Samsung Qi Cover which adds approximately 3mm of thickness. This will make nearly all cases incompatible except for some Bumpers and a few random cases. The Samsung Protective Case (Clear/Gray) that Samsung sells works well with the cover but it must be installed on the phone perfectly or the volume/power keys won't line up and you'll have issues. This is the solution I'm using (OEM Qi Charging Cover + Samsung Protective Case + Tylt Vu Charger).

Doesn't work.

As I said above the OEM cover adds approximately 3mm of thickness and makes most cases incompatible.

Eclipse2K,
What do you mean when you say "but it must be installed on the phone perfectly"? Sounds like something said about a screen protector-- not a case. How do you suggest one goes about achieving perfection when installing the Samsung Protective Case (Clear/Gray) that Samsung sells?

I believe what Eclipse mean is that the case must be installed on the phone correctly, if not the volume button/power button will not line up and may not work. There is no mention of a screen protector.

I have never thought of a cell phone case as having an option to install it correctly or incorrectly. Don't you just put it on as a pre-fitted, specifically manufactured case for the phone for which it was designed?

As you can see, with the wireless charging back cover installed, it adds some thickness to the phone, about 3mm. Therefore, most cases will not fit with the wireless charging back cover. Some cases may fit and what Eclipses posted was that the case that seems fit with the wireless charging back cover but must be put on on correctly and aligned, if not the power/volume buttons may not work.

Of course you don't need perfection to install a case correctly if you don't use the wireless charging back cover.

The back of the case by the camera lifts ever so slightly too but in no way effects the overall protection.

Thank you WhiteiPadMini.

Yes, the case isn't made for the Wireless cover so it may take some work. Putting it in may result in the volume and power keys not being lined up with the tactile case buttons and they will not work. If for some reason you fail just remove it and try again. It's not difficult but I just mentioned it that way so no one tried once, failed and claimed I lied.

With all of that said the OEM case does have overly sensitive buttons though. I decided to go with a Belkin Grip Bumper which exposes the back but the edges are protected. The fit is loose with the standard cover but the wireless is very satisfactory. I figure if the back is damaged I can always buy a new one just like a case.

Ahh ha. You have answered my question and helped me understand. Thank you, Eclipse2K.

So am I hearing that with all this having been said, you swapped the Samsung case for a Belkin Grip Bumper?

Yes, not because the case didn't fit but with the added bulk of the charging cover I wanted to go with a lighter case. I still have my Samsung case but I'll probably never use it again.
