Personal choice. I've rooted my phones in the past, but the only reason was to get rid of the bloatware and get a closer to stock Android. That being said, I've found the rooted custom ROMs to be somewhat buggy. If you are not versed in rooting a phone, I'd recommend not diving into it until you do some research first. Many of the problems posted on these threads are a result of rooting, and not understanding what is happening or the processes involved, or buggy Custom ROMs. If you do root, be prepared to forfeit GEL, if that's important to you.

With the N5 (or N7), I've found no reason to root. Just because there are alternative ROMs, it doesn't mean they're better. They do allow you to add different customizations, but IMO, that's just more bloat. And some can reduce battery life, from my experience.

The wait is over... Got my phone and bumper case yesterday.
Feels nice to have a phone once again and even better that its a Nexus.
I really like it so far, the case not so much.

Ordered my N5 on the 14th to replace my Note II.

supposed to ship Tomorrow. 2-7 days shipping... Got the white 32GB coming.

appreciate the input. this is my first android. prior to this, windows 8 (nokia 920), and before window i was an apple guy since the introduction of the original iphone. with the iphone and windows8 phone, you kind of have to jailbreak because everything is so limited. but from what i can tell, nexus 7 is pretty awesome right out of the box and i'm sure the nexus 5 will be the same. the only thing that i really want/need from rooting at this moment is the ability to block ads (so awesome).

i've been using my nexus 7 for about 2 weeks now and google/android has reminded me how much i love technology again. i can't wait to get my nexus 5... my dbrand skin is just sitting here, waiting to be applied.

same here. let me ask you something, did they charge you before they shipped the phone? i only ask because i was told that they don't charge until it gets shipped, yet i got charged the day i placed the order (2 days ago), not the day it was shipped (today).

Went that route myself. I'm still very close to going back the the Nokia 1020, but Windows just needs a few more apps which are important to how I use the phone.

Welcome, and enjoy!! My N5 and N7 have been flawless and a joy to use. Can't wait to see what new devices come out this year!!

I believe that what you saw was probably an authorization for the charge. Then, the actual charge goes through upon shipping.

I got robbed today trying to buy a Nexus 5 off Craigslist to save $20. The guy took my cash and took off on his motorcycle.

After the cops were notified and given his plate I ordered one on the play store like I should've done on the first place.

I got shipping notification tonight.

First $860 Nexus 5.

Hope no one returns their Nexus for a refund. Google's up to 14 days to process a refund is ridiculous. They got my device on the 7th. Still waiting on a refund.

14 days is nothing. Try 60 for tmobile. (And yes, they'll have your device for 59 days before they process the refund)

Suckville. UPS has lost my nexus. Currently waiting for google to refund so I can start the process all over again. Pretty much ruined my whole weekend.

nevermind, it said it shipped at 1:30AM? wonder if ill get it sometime in the morning since i have next day shipping

I ordered mine on Friday, but the 32gb black model's had recently run low. I got the shipped email around 5 hours ago. It's shipping from Kentucky to Georgia. UPS says delivery will be in Wednesday, but I am hoping that it will arrive today. I have heard of some people experiencing super fast delivery, is that still the case?

I'm not sure johnston, I picked the next day shipping option just in case, so I'm hoping to get mine in the morning or tomorrow, I ordered mine saturday.

Thanks, I've come across a number of posts from people who talked about how their Nexus' shipped as late as 9pm and arrived the next morning. Hoping that is what happens with mine.
