All I mean to say is that the basic maths dictate that on average Google will benefit--or the program will at least pay for itself.
Big box stores set up this sceme a long time ago. More of Best Buy's profits come from warranties that from the sale of products. This is a tested profit model.
I think if boils down to this: If you are reasonably certain that you will use the Protect plan wthin the time frame, then it is a good deal for you. However, if the plan is of ultimate benefit to the consumer an average, then it is a money-looser for Google. As a publicly traded for-profit company, I don't even believe that it is legal for Google to sell a product or service that they know will loose money.

This is quintessential insurance. The issuer does some projections on losses and sets a price structure accordingly. If claims are below projections, it's good for the insurer. If claims are higher, it's bad for the insurer. The customer gets the same deal unless the insurer goes under (see historical Florida hurricane insurance market).
Sorry to be a little of general topic before.
I did get some infomation from Project Fi that may be helpful to some who ordered through Project Fi. The 'Pending .... October 21-22' isn't an indication of ship date if your order was placed through Project Fi. According to the Fi rep, that indicated the date that Fi will receive the batch of phones from which your order will come. I was told point blank that 'Pending ... October 21-22' actually means a ship date from Project Fi of October 26.
I will be curious to see how this plays out.

Mine shipped this morning too. Hopefully i get it tomorrow, with the estimated delivery day being Wednesday.

Still so disappointed in Google.
I ordered my 5x on the day it went live within minutes of it going live. My credit card was stolen a week ago so I canceled it. Google emailed me last Wednesday saying payment was declined and "Click here to update payment info / add new card". I clicked and it won't let me change the payment method.
I've tried 4 new cards and get an error saying, method failed. I called Google 4 times, chatted with Google, talked with a supervisor and was finally assured my new payment method is now linked to the order and it will ship "as planned". As of this morning it is still DECLINED asking me to update payment info.
Google says, sorry, our system is showing it will ship asap but I see no indication of this.

Mine has been processing since Thursday. I had another charge on my CC but it wen away over the weekend. Still showing 28-30 OCT. Come on Google, you are now toying with my emotions!
It's pretty sad you can walk into a store in the UK and pick one up today or people there have had theirs delivered already, yet people who ordered from Google may not get theirs to the end of the week or later.Apple can deliver millions of phone on a set day but Google takes a week or more to deliver probably less than a 100,000.I like iOS and Android equally but maybe Google should have a company more experienced in logistics to handle their ordering and shipping next year.
What? No, that's completely wrong (I hope).
The "Pending... October 23-27" that still shows on my order status has always matched up with the "Estimated delivery date: October 23 – 27, 2015" that is in my confirmation e-mail.
Also, I have chatted twice with Google reps, who have both indicated that my device should ship on 10/20. This matches up with the Google Play order status of "shipping by 10/20/15" (that's the status that you find by going to the Play Store via Chrome, clicking on the "Settings" gear, clicking on "My Account" and scrolling down to "Order History.")
I think you just got someone who didn't know what they were talking about. I hope.
Ordered a 32gb Quartz as soon as it went live in Canada. Order still shows as pending :'( We also do not get the $50 play credit.
I went to FedEx.com and tracked by reference. I used the last part of the Google Store order confirmation, and entered in the destination Country and ZIP code information

Google is shipping - Just got my confirmation
Not sure if this has already been posted, but got my shipping confirmation from Google today. Chose free shipping, but Fedex says it will be here Wednesday. 32gb, black version.
