J7 Sky Pro Not Syncing Microsoft Exchange Contacts

Just got this phone from Tracfone. Using the native Samsung email and contacts apps for my Microsoft live.com account. The email synced OK and contacts reports a time that it last synced but none of the contacts appear. The display setting in the Contacts app is set to All Contacts.

Any ideas on what else to look at and try?
 
Wanting to complete the setup of this phone, I deleted the Microsoft Exchange account and added it back using GMail. After a few minutes the emails synced but not the contacts so I re-added the account via the System Settings "Cloud and Accounts" dialog (same one I used originally) and this time the contacts synced. Go figure.

So now I have email for that account syncing both with GMail and the phone email app and the contacts properly merged on the phone. I don't want to remove email from either email app for fear of losing the contacts again. I call this a peaceful standoff, but would prefer not to consume memory with duplicate emails.

Still looking for a clean solution. :confused:
 
Google was having server problems for a while (I couldn't sync yesterday - then all of a sudden I could). It happens about 3 or 4 times a year. The clean solution is to wait a day, or to ask on a forum whether anyone else in your area (different servers in different parts of the world) is having the problem. If everyone there is, it's not you.
 
Thanks Rukbat. Maybe that was the issue. Will try to remove the duplicate email account without losing the contacts for that account and see what happens.

When at first you don't succeed, try, try again :)
