Jelly bean update and bluetooth Calling issue

2 quick questions....

1) Do you have a URL to the Liquid Smooth ROM (yours is not the 1st post I've read that says it's great) ?

2) What are the consequences of rooting a phone (I've never been clear and I know carriers try and scare you)? I'm a programmer - so the technical side isn't an issue - just not sure if I can go back to stock ROM and unrooted staus?

Thanks in advance!

Gloriosa,

1. Liquid Smooth has a facebook page, which is how I keep up with when they drop their nightlies or new stable builds, but all the major rom builds are posted on the website goo.im (Goo.im free android file hosting) Go to the bottom right under trending roms and you'll find liquidsmoothJB. So far my only real complaint with the rom is that bluetooth will lock up if you turn it on and off several times in a day, but only happens once in a blue moon (I do it when I get out of the car, just a habit developed since under touchwiz samsung battery life wasn't as great)

2.The basic commentary out of the carriers is that if you put on rom, your warranty is void. Basically break the phone they won't replace it. That being said you can unroot the phone. I tested this when I was in the whole "I think it's my phone not the software" phase. TMO sent me a brand new S3 to replace my phone, so I tinkered with the old one. You can easily find the original carrier stock and flash it back to the phone, and there is oodles of literature on both forums and just the internet on how to do that. My only recommendation is if you're going to return the phone to the carrier, purchase Triangle Away on playstore. What it does is reset your flash counter - basically hiding the fact you've flashed roms to the phone. The rest is basic unrooting which all forums have detailed guides on. I did that with the phone I returned and haven't heard a word from TMO, but again, I really doubt they check but it's a good precaution.

Hope that helps

A side note, when you install clockwordmod to your phone prior to rooting or flashing - you can backup the image of your current touchwiz system (as in all settings, apps, texts so on, as if you never left) and just keep it on the phone. IF it ever locks up or bricks you can just as easily go back to that and then go through the unrooting process. Either way, whether you flash a new stock carrier rom or reuse your own and unroot - there shouldn't be a worry about going the rom route. If you break it, and can't even access the clockworkmod then I'd just recommend making sure they can't either lol

Super....thanks!

I bumped into Triangle Away comments yesterday - good one to know.

Here in Canada we don't have the same rooting "laws" as I've read about recently in the US - but good to know how to stay safe! ;-)

Thanks

I just purchased a 2013 Honda CRV. Same issue. Signal dropped and reconnects every 30 seconds.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

Joining the chorus. I have a 2012 Honda CR-V. Have been using an AT&T iPhone 4S for 15 months with no BT problems whatsoever. Today I bought an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4. No problem pairing, handled two HandsFree calls fine. Got on the freeway and the disconnect/connect cycle began and lasted until I got home 20 minutes later. Will try re-pairing without contacts. Love the phone, hate this problem!

Of note: Have been listening to Pandora over BT Braven 570 for 2 hours with no problem. With all the different Android phones, carriers and cars involved in this complaint, it appears to be a Google problem.

Driving a July 2012 build Citroen C5 exclusive with an eMyWay sat nav/music/bluetooth system - talking on a Samsung galaxy S3 bought in August 2012.
Paired them up in October 2012; flawless performance.
Firmware update in Jan 2013 - I didn't notice problems straight away, and I was out of the country for the first half of February but late Feb I noticed auto connection not always happening but most frustrating was a sort of drop out at 30 seconds or so into a call.... call remained connected but the sound reverted from the cars speakers to the ear speaker of the phone.... turning the car system volume up then just caused huge feedback!
Citroen dealer very sympathetic and put some time into checking into it including taking the car for a day and interrogating it, testing with their phones, checking for new car system firmware etc. No luck. That night I was over it, so I got a new backup app and did the three buttons at once and full reboot/factory reset routine. Restored backups with some loss of info but not too bad... voila!
It now works, albeit only auto connecting to the car about 90% of the time, but the calls work!
End of huge frustration, and the dealer was pleased to hear it. :D

An update to Sprint users.

After a very long wait, I just got an update a few minutes ago that finally fixed my bluetooth issue! The update is about 103MB in size and included new features such as multi-view. I tested my BT on my 2007 G35 right after the update and voila! Give it a try, good luck all!

Problem fixed?
hello all, I have a Mondeo 2009 and a Galaxy S3, S2 and S; until a month ago I was able to connect and use the bluetooth with all 3 phones, but after the upgrade to 4.1 the S2 and S3 did not work anymore, the connection drops continuously. After a lot of test I have discovered that after the paring with the radio if I activate both option for Call audio and Media audio the bluetooth keeps the connection! I hope this helps!

Driving a 2011 Honda Odyssey with HandsFreeLink. I had no issue whatsoever with a Galaxy S2 or my recently destroyed GalaxyS3. Then I acquire a Galaxy S4 with Android 4.2.2. Pairs without issue but I can't hold a connection long enough to even comment on the sound quality.

I have the same issue with my Renault Laguna 2011 and Samsung S2 after updating to 4.1.2
It mutes the radio every 33 second for 2 seconds it even hang the radio complete.
Then I was forced to remove the fuse for the radio to get any audio from the radio.
When I re sync the phone skip the contact sync it works for me like many here has written thank you all.
It works but it is a work around will there be a fix soon?

How do you stop synching of contacts?? (using S4..previous phone was an S3 that had no BT issues at all)

Have the same problem with my 2011 Odyssey. I found this on a developers website and it worked for me. Bit of a pain and I've found a shortcut but don't feel competent enough to do it. But the following works:. When you start your phone or restart bluetooth go to Settings>Applications>Running Services. Look for the Service "BluetoothPbapService". tap it, then hit stop. This removes it from the list. The phone pairs and uploads the phone book without problems until you either stop and restart bluetooth or turn your phone off. I am looking for a developer who can automate this process with an app without rooting the phone. Hope this helps.

Remove the current bluetooth profile. Then when you first pair your bluetooth you should be prompted to sync your contacts. Just say no and "don't ask again". That worked for me.

Ahhh. Thanks.

I don't want to jinx myself, but ever since I did a KIES backup of the phone, BT seems to be doing better. Good connects for the last day or so.

I have the same problem: Samsung Galaxy Ace II on a Peugeot 307. Bluetooth connection drops down after a few seconds... Pretty traumatic.

It never happened whenever if used an old iPhone 3 for a copule of years. The problem is on the Android Operating System (4.1.2)... Not a car issue!

I hope the bug will be solved sooner.

Have you tried an App called "Bluetooth Keepalive"?

Apparently the problem is:
You have a problem with the Bluetooth connection to your hands-free? Every few minutes it's disconnecting and re-establishing? This could be a problem with the standby mode or WiFi interference of your Android. For these problems "Bluetooth Keepalive" can help you.

Bluetooth Keepalive is $1.50.
