Isn't 42 mbps the cap on hspa+? LTE can do faster than that and it might be an AT&T issue here, but I've never seen any AT&T device come close to 20 mbps, while Verizon does 1.5 to 3 times that all day long. And Verizon's service is still unlimited data for a lot of us. The second I see an AT&T device pull 50-60 mbps in my area AND they have those speeds available with unlimited data, I'll be forced to consider the possibility that someone has service that compares to Verizon.
Regardless though, if you have spotty LTE coverage your battery will drain quicker, so in that case I would rather have solid HSPA+ coverage. With Sprint I get terrible 3G and no phone I've owned makes it through an 8 hour work day with moderate use becuase even the 3G coverage is pretty mediocre.
LTE does have benefits over HSPA+ besides speed clearly, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. What I saw being talked about though was speed and touched only on that point.
Again for me honestly LTE means nothing because VZW is the only carrier in my area with LTE and I will not pay their prices for capped data. So my choices are Sprint with bad 3G or Tmo with solid HSPA+. That is why after nearly 10 years I am done with Sprint.
This is exactly why I'm moving to T-Mobile with the One. Sprint's 4G is ok at best when you can get it but 3G is a joke unless you have at least 4 bars of signal. On a good day I get 7 1/2 hours of battery life on my EVOLTE and some okay 4G but mostly 3G. I have no WiFi at home so I rely purely on Sprint's service for data to my phone. I would much rather use solid HSPA+ from T-Mobile which is readily available in my area and soon their LTE as well. Assuming the rumors are true, I'll be saying goodbye to Sprint and their truly mostly slow unlimited data.

The evo got signal issues on its own anyway but u do know about network vision right??? Its not an overnight process.

Just because a city is announced don't mean work is nowhere near done. A city is typically 40-45% complete when it is announced. If I can get this daily in a 80% Chicago which already is spectrum constrained Texas is gonna be alright.

Depends where you are. I'm in a suburb of Chicago whose network is loaded, and Sprint averages a quarter of your posted speeds.

Same, in Houston my best LTE speeds are 18 Mbps but the vast majority of the time LTE is only 1-8 Mbps with 3G speeds of 0.1-1.2 Mbps ;p.
I am very tempted to leave Sprint for Tmobile unlimited 4G. I have to buy out of my contract to upgrade early on Sprint anyway. I really want the One, but I am wary of the poor resale value of HTC phones.
Also, I am not sure about Tmobile's new plans, it wont be on contract and is $10 cheaper than Sprint, but I would have to either buy the phone outright or pay $100 (vs $200 on Sprint) plus $20 extra per month, which would make the bill actually higher than Sprint.

Lte also has much faster ping and response times

See where I am located Sprint doesn't seem to care about rolling anything out. And I just had a friend that can access the speedtest app run it on his Evo 3D. He got .16 Down and .06 Up.
That is a fairly common thing around here, so I am not willing to wait even longer for decent service....I've been waiting since the Evo 4G launched and still nothing
Where are u located??

You need to understand wireless tech to believe it's slower and drains battery. A lot has to do with lighting up extra radios to be backwards compatible and also switching between stronger signals.
Hspa+ is nothing more than turbo of older tech.
