I was so tempted to barge in and say something like, "Dude, get the hell out of my way while I explain the phone correctly and accurately to these nice people so they can make an intelligent, informed decision. I did this at Best Buy last week, when I saw an old couple asking a floor sales guy about Roku. The guy actually told them it was around 400 bucks! He was trying to sell them an Apple TV. When I heard that I had to **** in.

The OP can go to T-Mobile if he desire.. i wouldn't do it and end up paying ETF right now since we don't even know when T-Mobile will carry the device. It would suck to go 2-3 weeks without a phone or a loaner that they will give you(free flip phone).

Far as network goes it all depends where the OP lives.. he might live in a area where T-Mobile gets great voice and 42Mbs HSPA+ data since he switching to them.

But if the OP is on Sprint then he knows how it was when Sprint switch from Wimax to LTE so he/she knows what they are getting themselves into i hope far as that..

How would he pay a etf if tmo doesn't even offer contracts anymore (besides paying on the phone)

The term LTE means nothing. You can have LTE with slow speeds too. My point? T-Mobile's 4G HSPA 42Mbps network is consistently getting the same , or faster, speeds than Sprint's LTE.

So i would actually say the better option is T-Mobile because almost all of their network is covered in HSPA+, while most of Sprint's is still in 1990's dial up speeds (literally). When T-Mobile tolls out LTE largely, it will just be another plus. But honestly, they don't need to do that really.Their speeds where I am at, AND where i travel to are all on par with AT&T and Verizon LTE speeds. And that's without LTE on T-Mobile. I think they are doing the LTE thing for marketing purposes, kind of like the megapixel myth, there is the LTE speed myth (for the moment). Look up videos on youtube of T-Mobile HSPA 42 vs. LTE.

Bro all of T-Mobiles network isn't all 42+ actually most besides cities is edge. In contrast to what sprint is doing as in adding lte and 3g upgrades on basically every tower they own including the rural areas also. And I use cloud services also so the 9mb upload I get which hspa can't helps also.

I'm with sprint in Sacramento, CA. Sprint doesn't have LTE here and 3G speed are 25kbps-150 Kbps. I've tested Sprint LTE in San Francisco are (5-10 Mbps) vs Tmobile (HSPA+ 8-20 Mbps). Bay are just started Tmobile LTE (40-50 MBps). The bottom line, Tmobile's HSPA+ is faster than sprint LTE.

I started in Nextel, when Sprint bought them I stayed (over 10 years). Minnesota got WiMax quick. I was super happy with my Evo 4G. I moved to a Photon 4G and had Sprint until last summer. I switched to Verizon.

Sprint really dropped the ball. The 3G speeds are unusable and almost all their devices are useless without LTE. I was satisfied with voice coverage, but when AT&T iPhone 4S's were blowing the pants off my WIMAX speeds I started searching.

Voice reliability is super important to me. I'd never choose AT&(dropped your call)T and I need much more coverage than T-MO. That left Verizon. I wish their LTE was quicker, I sure hope they plan to upgrade it.

Because we're saying that the strongest HSPA+ is better than the weakest LTE. In my area (T-mobile doesn't exist here, so can't speak for it) Sprint gets 4G speeds that are worse than Verizon and AT&T 3G speeds, AT&T (HSPA) can consistently get you up to 12-15mbps, Verizon can get you 25-60mbps. The only other LTE carrier here is US Cellular and their speeds are showing 3-12 bps, which is really close to what 3G speeds were prior to Verizon LTE. So the name of the service is highly irrelevant; clearly all LTE and all HSPA are not created equally.

You need to understand wireless tech to believe it's slower and drains battery. A lot has to do with lighting up extra radios to be backwards compatible and also switching between stronger signals.

Hspa+ is nothing more than turbo of older tech.

Same in Silicon Valley, we had WiMax within 6 months of the Evo 4G being released, and I was happy having fast speeds, but I should've probaby stayed with the 3D, because as awesome as the Evo LTE is, without LTE, it's rough waiting for everying to load. And I just like T-Mobile's new policy of not charging you a contract rate for an off-contract phone.

The ONLY reason I'm not buying the ONE unlocked is because I'm not a baller. I'm a 20 year old college kid, enthused with tech, especially smartphones. If I could, I would definitely just get the dev edition of this phone and call it a day. I live in Fort Worth where there is LTE just up the road from my house but not inside and I don't have WiFi. I travel all over the DFW metroplex where Sprint LTE is suposed to be prevalent. It's there in pockets. Tmobile allures me with paying off the phone to own it and eventually having a cheaper data plan than Sprint (however, if I switch now, it would still be cheaper for me on T-Mobile with the ONE and unlimited data). I might just upgrade on Sprint, and wait for T-Mobile release and then sell the phone and pay the ETF buy the phone with the money made from the sale. Or, T-Mobile could just release this phone like they're supposed to and I could go through one less hoop of owning it.

Brother it has NOTHING to do with understanding or not understanding the tech. It has to do with what a user actually gets in the real world. If HSPA+ is providing faster speeds in the area a person lives in than it is in factv better for that person than what LTE would be. If you have spotty LTE, your phone will be constantly pinging towers for signal, which WILL lead to the battery draining faster. It has also been confirmed in some locations that Sprint LTE is slower than T-Mo HSPA+.

Then there are folks like me, where Sprint refuses to ever provide anything 4G like in the area, yet HSPA+ covers my whole area. LTE will never come to Dayton, OH via Sprint, I have given up on that and as such I will switch to the better network in my area.
