Just pulled the trigger on the pixel 5

I looked at the Google store and both the VZW and unlocked versions are out of stock. I also wonder if they are out of stock due to the supply-chain issues that are affecting so many businesses, or if (let me put on my tinfoil hat) Google is not making them because the Pixel 6 and 5a are so close to launch (tinfoil hat removed).

I do believe they stop actively producing their current phones.... or at least the top tier ones, when the new models are introduced. But I still routinely pick up brand new factory sealed 2+ year old flagship pixels. They will be around if you want one.

I'm in the same boat as you! I got approved for financing and ordered a pixel 5 in black a few days ago. I'm using a OnePlus 9 Pro right now, but will put my sim in the 5 when it comes. Sucks that it isn't arriving until end of August; but hopefully that changes!

I keep checking to see if the ship date has moved up. My original delivery was aug 28-29 now its 19-20. I am hoping that it moves up again. I can definitely wait for the device I am super stoked to get a pixel. I just can't decide if I want to unlock it and run a custom rom or just unlock install magisk and install viper4android for dolby atoms support. I have Apple Music and the spatial audio is killer on the s21, noticeable difference.

Now that I can leave the house again (pandemic restrictions lifting), I was finding my 4XL's battery to be so horrible that I could not wait any longer. With a small toddler doing a lot of 'firsts', taking pictures and looking up some things and using maps the 4XL could barely get me through an afternoon.

Out of frustration I went to Best Buy and grabbed a Pixel 5. At first the smaller screen bothered me a little but now I kinda prefer it.

I think I'll still get a Pixel 6/Pro/XL when they come out and folks have used them for a few weeks/a month or so. My wife can use the Pixel 5 that I get to enjoy for a few months

This Pixel 5 is great though. Battery life is amazing as advertised and just what I was looking for.

Did your delivery date change by chance? Mine was originally the 28-29th of aug. Moved to the 20-21st and just moved back to the 28-29 :'(

I know I am super bummed, but it actually makes me happy that I didnt wait for the 6. The pixel 5 is going to take me almost a month and half to get. That is on a phone that is almost a year old. I imagine that when the new shiny 6 comes out there will be an even longer wait for that device. Apple has already come out and said the new iphone is going to be hard to get due to supply chain constraints.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for the persuasion....
I was able to get a Black Pixel 5 ordered Friday 7/30 at 11:15 at night right before the unlocked ver. was sold out again.

I have a Pixel 3 from launch, for me the prefect phone, and hadn't thought about another phone.
But all the Pixel 6 rumors had me getting discouraged since it would be everything I don't want my phone to be.
-too big
-no fingerprint sensor on the back
-a phone wide camera hump (want a flat back)
-more $$ then I'd want to spend

I would be happy to use my 3 forever, but battery is not lasting as long and it's had a couple hiccups.
Not knowing if a Pixel would ever have my must haves anytime soon, I'm glad I was able to snag a 5.

My wants/must haves for a phone: (What few they are)
#1 -it is no bigger then my 3! (6 is ruining that)
#2 -fingerprint sensor on the back (no face unlock or under screen)
#3 wireless charging (I'm spoiled now)
#4 -obviously a bigger battery than the 3 has

My delivery is still showing Sep 1-2
