No employee discount
Network Deprioritization
Tethering capped to 10gb after that it'll go down to ~869 MB (?)
Autopay for a $5 discount on bill
Good points. The employee discount doesn't bother me too much, because we'll be saving about $100/mo. The Network Depriortization doesn't bother me much, either, since I live in the Salt Lake City area, but away from the city, so that shouldn't be a problem. The tethering cap of 10gb isn't a problem, since I don't have that capability currently, so that'll actually be an upgrade for me, and the auto pay isn't a problem either.
What I'm most worried about is some type of bait and switch where we get on this new plan then in a year or two take away the UDP or start jacking up the price.
I switched from the grandfathered unlimited to the new plans. If you use over 22 gigs and live in a high populated area you might want to stay where your at. IMO Verizon will eventually kill the grandfathered unlimited data plans, and with the new unlimited plans out that day could come sooner then later. You could wait till that happens, but you risk different plan or pricing. Verizon in the past has been good about leaving your plan your on alone. It's a crap shoot. I saved $110 a month off right away switching, and 3 lines under contract that will bring another $60 monthly savings. For me, the 22 gigs work and the savings is great.
Besides raising the price for the legacy unlimited data plan by $20 once off-contract, have they taken away or raised the prices of any of the more recent plans?
I'm not sure on that, but the Verizon rep did tell me that they stopped that $20 increase, and that when those on the grandfathered UDP go off contract it will actually go down by $20, and in some cases, $30. He said that the line fee would be a flat $20 per line at that point. So, one of my unlimited lines got the $20 increase about a year ago, so that line is $49.99 per month right now, the rep said when it comes off contract it will drop to $20 per month, so saves me $30/mo. If I'm understanding him correctly, that is...
I doubt that you're understanding him correctly.
If your legacy Unlimited Data Plan was raised by $20 (to $49.99), that would have happened when you went off-contract. Unless you bought a phone after that on a two-year plan, that line should still be off-contract.
That's news to me because I'm on the last leg of my UDP unless I move to the loyalty plan. Once I go there that's literally the last straw. I'd be completely surprised if they don't increase my grandfathered udp to $49 then a year and change down back to $29. That's inconceivable that Verizon would willingly loss out on money.Correct. The line went off contract, they raised the price by $20/mo to $49.99/mo, then a few months later did an upgrade with that line and got it back on contract, so it's locked in at $49.99/mo and, according to the rep, once it's off contract in about a year and 3 months it will drop down to $20/mo. But, I could be wrong.
If your paying the $49.99 rate for unlimited data now you should be off contract and the line access fee should be $20 now on the new planI'm not sure on that, but the Verizon rep did tell me that they stopped that $20 increase, and that when those on the grandfathered UDP go off contract it will actually go down by $20, and in some cases, $30. Ok didn't see responses. Yes it's $40 access fee untill it's off contract, then will drop to $20.Correct. BTW, Verizon is having an Early Upgrade promotion with Best Buy if you are on a two year contract.
Sweet! Do you know if you can do the upgrade then switch over to the new UDP afterward? Are these subsidized phones are have they done away with those and you now pay full price?
