Keep track of 3G data outages here for Virgin Mobile

I got this phone new on Friday. Data worked Friday night. Worked Saturday morning. Then went out. Came back Saturday evening. Then out again.

The outage on Saturday morning included the 'can only get the VM home page' symptom. My husband, who also got his phone new on Friday, was able to get at least brief data access yesterday. If you restart your month from the VM page I *believe* it charges you again. I'm working with the escalated customer service through email, anyway, I can get them to check that. I don't NEED data until tomorrow...

3G Virgin Mobile service still down in Raleigh/ Durham NC area

I called last night (Monday, March 21) about 6 p.m. The rep said that service had been down for a week but that they expected to have it up within 24 hours. I just started service on Friday, and it would have been nice if they'd told me that their whole network had been down for days. Are there any lawyers out there who would like to file a class action lawsuit? I think that that's the only way to get Virgin Mobile's attention. Sign me up.

By the way, you can complain to the FCC about the Virgin Mobile 3G service outage with the following link:
esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm?sid=d1e419&id=

or go to fcc.gov, go way down the page on the left to "Consumer Center," and then click on "Filing Complaints." Select "Wireless telephone," then "Billing, Service, Privacy, Number Portability and other issues," "then click on "Online form."

Yes, my phone was slightly borked...VMU reset my plan status and data is now up but slow, although I did not speed test. Given the widespread problems, I'm considering it slightly rude to leave my phone on 3G when I have wi-fi available.

Given the large number of complaints I've seen on the FB page from people who got their Optimus phones on Friday, I'm wondering if the large number of plan activations crashed something.

It also seems the outage is affecting specific phones almost randomly. Maybe we need a gremlin exorcism?

In Miami, FL worked good from 8:00 pm last night up to now. 250/400,110/420 and 720/405. (speedtest.net App) So far so good, the real test is from 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm. I'll post it later.

Eastern NC, down for yesterday a lot in the afternoon, (I used wifi, so I'm not sure exact times), and down this morning. Up since about 1:30 pm or so...

Northern Alabama, here. I am probably one of the many causing the problems by jumping on the Optimus/VM bandwagon last week. I hadn't noticed that 3G wasn't working since I've been riding the back of wifi. It was when I got away from wifi that I saw I had no connection. I still have a pretty decent GSM signal, though. So I searched until I found this forum/thread to see if anything was going on. Glad to know it isn't just me, but also not too happy about the problem everyone including me are facing.

BTW, since AT&T is he** bent on becoming a monopoly, we need for VM to survive. So, I don't think a lawsuit against them, as one post suggested, is a good idea especially since VM is the small fish in the pond.

I just recieved this email at 330 pm in Miami, Fl from VM:

Good Morning, The outage should now be resolved. Can you please try removing the battery from both devices? If this does not resolve the issue can you please provide the security pin to the account and we will gladly review your account for a resolution? Thanks,Tanganique W.

Lets see...I will post an update.

If you rooted by installing a new rom and you think it could be related then install your backup rom and verify, that is if you made a backup of your original rom.

My husband informed me he had perfect reception just now in NoVA, so we seem to be golden here.

Literally the same scenario and behavior on my end. I haven't restarted my month, and probably wont, but as of today at 5:30 PM in Chicago IL I still have zero 3G.

SW side of Minneapolis MN -- Optimus V from Target:
OK this morning
spotty around noon
- browser no good but a visit to android app store seemed to fix it
- coincidence ??
- was up long enough to get free angry birds app from amazon app store
dead all after noon - even power cycles did not help
just came up around 5:15 pm
this has been miserable - hope it stabilizes soon

Its been spotty all day in SO MO.
Ive been using wifi most of the time.

Those of you talking lawsuit..seriously?
Just file the complaints with the FCC but ONLY after 30 days of bad service.
Filing a report and not documenting atleast 30 days of bad service will only get your report ignored.

If you dont think the recent influx of subscribers has anything to do with it, you are mistaken. Up until last week I had decent 3g. Now all of a sudden after seeing all the new people on FB complaining about not having internet after receiving their phone at some point last week it makes me think..humm I see the connection.

/shrug

Call Vm and complain, tell the initial csr that you need to speak to their supervisor and only because this is a ongoing problem and need to speak to somebody allowed to issue compensation in some form or another.

I agree - it's only gotten worse. It most likely has to do with the subscribers jumping on an awesome $25, or even $40 a month plan. They are too good to be true, and the network is starting to show it.

Let's hope they can get things worked out because I do rely on this phone.

Anyone know if MetroPCS is better?
