Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

I'm really sorry to hear about the kernel difficulties, Drew. It's puzzling why Sprint (and esp LG) wouldn't want to give devs more support -- it would make more people LOVE their phones!

This may seem petty in comparison, but my phone's video camera flickers if the CPU is set to anything above 600. More flickering with higher clock speeds. It doesn't matter whether I'm running GingerKernel 5.1 or 6.2 or gROM or OptiROM. Governor setting doesn't affect it, only clock speed.

My initial theory was that it's a hardware issue with running higher speeds (current might be affecting the sensor or something), but I never noticed this with pervious kernels when I was on ZVD. Any thoughts?

UPDATE: Using SavagedZen governor (included in 6.2) seems to have solved this problem. Thanks for including it, Drew!!

UPDATE 2: SavagedZen just chew through ~30% of my battery in about two hours. Seems to not scale down to lower frequency properly. Scary governor seems to also get rid of camera flicker, however phone is a little sluggish when coming out of a resting period (e.g. screen doesn't scroll right away). I'll probably stick with Scary governor for now.

A temporary workaround for the display becoming garbled when overclocking has been posted. Please see the first post of this thread for details.

Makes me wish i hadnt bought setcpu !!! Oh well, if it ever plays nice, it is more customizable then no frills so i will switch back to setcpu then. Thanks for the update.

Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

I use Colin's battery tweak and have gotten the garbled screen. So could possibly note that in the opening post too if you feel necessary.

*Note that I barely ever have it happen and a quick reboot and lowering the max frequency fixes it. It's really not a huge deal for me at all.

I am not having any problems with screen and I am using setcpu. Overclocked too.

Sent from my 2.3.3 Opti-rom W/1Gb internal storage
Always happy to help, Hit that thanks button if I did

Setcpu doesn't seem to perform any differently for me, either. Sounds like it might vary depennding on ssetup.

Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

I am on CM7, using CMSettings to manage OC, and I am experiencing the screen issue. My device has the old screen. For those that aren't experiencing the issue, do you know whether your device has the new or old screen?

I think I have the newer touchscreen but since my device is a refurb I can't be totally sure.

Note: I installed the stock LG kernel to test some stuff. Played Angry Birds for a while and rebooted the phone. Almost immediately upon rebooting BAM my display became super garbled!

The one that I sent you is NOT refurb'd...I bought it brand new back in January -- but I'm not sure if you're using it, or using your own personal (active) phone for this..
But just letting you know, I don't think I gave you a history on that when we spoke via PM -- It was brand new from the box, I'm the only owner -- no tech ever touched it nor was it refurbed or ever sent anywhere. Kept by my side from January until I handed it to the UPS lady. So most likely it's the older display that is spoken of (since this is likely from the original November - December production runs of phones being made)

Wow I installed this kernal last night my phone was charge at 100 and this morning it said 8% mmmmhhhh really strange the phone idle was @ 43% like if it was on all night

This was charge at 100% then if you see it drop dramatically. Drew any Idea

Wow that's brutal battery life...the only thing I notice is your phone signal is gray and it was "awake" the entire time...crazy haha.

Oh I know that one isn't a refurb. I was talking about MY main device which is refurb #2.

Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

Is there any chance of porting the backlight notification scripts from the Optimus V to this kernel?

(Method 1 - no flashing, just the button LED turning on for notifications)

[MOD] Adding an External Notification Light to the Optimus V - xda-developers

I was able to install it and get it "working", but as soon as a notification came in and light button lights came on, they just flashed once or twice, then went off, rather than staying on steady (seemed to indicate that the kernel was killing the lights in order to sleep).

Anyways, if this is possible, that would be sweet - I actually got method 2 working, but it's a battery drain!

Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

I'm having the garbled screen issue although I have no idea what the collin_ph tweak is. I am using setcpu.

Just thought I'd report it since you asked on the first page.

Austin

EDIT:

I am using No Frills now and have rebooted. Still getting the screen issue.

EDIT 2:

The problem goes away when I set the clocking back to 600 MHz. Anything over and the problem comes back.
