Jcase has stated that there is another Rom to come but has no further information, he then said that when he had further info he would pass it along, so I am guessing that 2.11..3 is not the final build.

Other than the Verizon Voicemail indicator issue, the RUU that leaked last week has had very few problem reports. I think (pronounced "hope") that the delays have been because Verizon and HTC want to release as nearly perfect a Gingerbread release as they can manage before they unleash it on their audience. They don't want another MR1.

Certainly the sheer NUMBER of pre-release versions has been encouraging, and shows they don't appear to be slapping something together to get it out the door come hell or high water. Bugs found in each release have been fixed in the next, with very few exceptions.

I think the quality of the recent RUU releases shows that they are close. Very, very close. I read somewhere that Verizon likes to do their releases on Monday evenings, so as to avoid a weekend release but also to avoid blowing people's phones up during busy Mondays. So there's some hope that, maybe (just maybe) this evening we'll all be more concerned about overloaded Verizon download servers than by the continuing delays. It's a slim hope, granted.

But, frankly, I'd rather get a stable bug-free release as a Thanksgiving present than a buggy load of equine dung shoveled out the door to meet an artificial (if self-imposed) Q3 deadline.

I just think the latest RUUs show that they really have everything but the Verizon Voicemail indicator problem pretty much licked, and I can't see that being a complete-rewrite-grade problem. I have to imagine in my ignorance that it wouldn't take too long to fix that one, and of course I'm in the "Google Voice Voicemail" camp of people who care not a whit whether Verizon Voicemail indicators work or not...

So we'll see. I predict with some level of confidence that there will either be a Gingerbread release this week, or we'll see another RUU with a solid attempt at fixing the voicemail notification problem that will be tested first. And I'm a pretty cynical person.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I know we all get impatient when it gets close to Christmas Eve and can't wait to open up the presents. While I want it out ASAP like all of us, I would rather them take a few extra days to get it right. I remember back in July talking to the Rep on the phone and he said it will be coming soon (he mentioned August), but, to be honest, the only time I really want it, is when I really think about it. I can still text, FB, make calls, read e-mail, connect to my Wi-Fi at home download apps...and my phone doesn't REBOOT anymore. So, I guess I am happy, but, I am eagerly looking forward to the GB update.

Yep, had my doubts as soon as there was confirmation of the notifications still not working. Thanks for the info

I got my Thunderbolt with MR2 preloaded, so pardon the n00bish question about these updates.

Saturday morning, I'm headed up to the sticks to do some maintenance work on the Appalachian Trail for a week. I'll be camping in an area with very low and intermittent signal. Assuming the Gingerbread update does not come out this week, am I going to have any trouble with the "pending update" if it comes out next week while I'm in an "extended 3G" area where signal comes and goes constantly?

How long can I hold off the update?

Obviously, out in the sticks, my phone will be off most of the time, I'll just be checking in with the family every couple of days to let them know the bear went hungry that day and I escaped. ;)

Though I may have to play with the camera a bit here and there :)

Hey, I seem to remember that when one of the last two updates (either Mr1 or MR2) came out, people were surprised because the released version number didn't match the version that was actually released. Am I making this up, or does this support the idea that, while .3 is the stated release build, jcase says there will be another one?

I downloaded it...installed it. I am in the process of going back to the stock one. The version from the link, it very well might be the OTA (I dunno), but the front facing camera DOES NOT WORK (at least for me). I tried the camera then menu settings and there isn't even a choice to pick the front facing camera. Oh well, I will wait until the OTA is officially here!

With the GB leaks, there's a little icon in the upper left corner when you are in the camera app...that switches it from camera to camera. Its not in the menu.

I just came back to post that I am such a blonde (well, blonde and thinning). I was messing with it and saw that little CAMERA looking icon in the upper left corner and voila......it worked. I actually like that better that the old way.

Now I am a happy camper!

In what specific ways is this preferable to froyo?

To be honest, I haven't messed with it that much. But my initial rating would be a 7 out of 10.

If you are expecting anything flashy or "NEW" I haven't seen it. When you swipe the screen down (not the unlock screen), there are 2 tabs on the bottom labeled "Notifications" and the other is "Quick Settings", which gives you the ability to turn on/off WiFi, Mobile HotSpot, Mobile Network, Bluetooth, SPG and All settings instead of having a widget or app to do it, might free up some home screen.

On the HOME screen the bottom menu bar has changed a little. To the left of the PHONE is a grid like box that when you press brings up "All Apps". There are some new icons (well at least to me). One is a square icon that show ALL apps, then there is a STAR which shows FREQUENTLY used apps. There is an circle ICON that has a arrow pointing down that displays all your DOWNLOADED apps. Right next to that one is the tiny word/logo of Verizon which of course, gives you the VERIZON Bloatware installed.

I read rumors of a SWYPE type keyboard and unfortunately, this doesn't have it. You get, STANDARD, PHONE and COMPACT....that's it!

With only installing it today, that is my only initial review of what I see. I am sure there are more people that will review it and find new nuggets of joy!

Here is an important thing:

IF YOU INSTALL THE OTA (WELL THE ONE THAT I DID) YOU WILL LOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER. I tried to flash back to stock and it wouldn't do it.

Can someone who has already downloaded/ installed the leaks elaborate on what the stuff about the dock bar means? I'm very curious about that, but considering this isn't the first GB leak for the Thunderbolt, and no one has mentioned anything about the dock bar changing, I don't get what the update document means.

According to what the folks at Droid life put up, this is to be ignored. It was taken from the wrong list of features, one that I think is for a Moto Gingerbread update.

MRW,

I have the GB OTA leak ROM installed and there is no docking bar that I can see.
