LAUNCH DAY THREAD [Tell interesting/humorous Evo 3D launch day stories]

Walked in to the Radio Shack where I had my 3D preordered at 11:30am (lunch break) and picked up the phone. While there was no drama, the associate was surprised that I was an original EVO owner that was eligible to upgrade to the 3D with the full benefit. I told him that was a perk of being a Sprint customer for 10+ years. Also, he told me that I was the first one to buy a 3D from their store.

So, for anyone that is interested, the Radio Shack in the Fairlakes part of Fairfax, VA, you can get them there.

my sprint store got in 80 phones between 5 stores. I was number 5 at noon. I told him I hope htc unlocks bootloader or I would see him in 29 days to get another evo, they are now $99

Wow, my radioshack only got 5 lol:D

If anyone is looking, went into the greenville, SC Target at 11 am and was the first in line. They had over 10 phones and only 3 pre orders. Quick set up and paperwork and was finished. Then I spent 30 minutes with the phone guy just talking and taking 3D pictures of the place and showing them to people. It was more fun than i though it would be having the 3D movies and pictures.

My "local" (near work) Sprint store didn't do preorders, so I went there about 9am to go get one.

Grabbed the handle of the door.. locked. WTF! Saw the sign that said open at 10, but I called the day before and they said 8. Pissed, I walked back to the main street and was calling the store and I noticed another door. Oops, that worked just fine. Walked in, hung up the phone, then got to see the employee running through the "Thank you for calling Sprint.." spiel, and told him that was me and I just hung up.

But no issues really, got my phone, ported my number over, and about 30 minutes later it was functional..mostly. For some reason I couldn't send an SMS until I "activated" my phone by switching my voice mail to Google Voice. Then everything worked just fine.

Re: LAUNCH DAY THREAD [Tell interesting/humorous Evo 3D launch d

Well i picked up the phone at 1030 or so at best buy. Since i bought it on adifferent line i had to activate it myself. So i went back to my car to start the activation process. I didnt really get to begin because i had tickets to go watch cars2 with my kids. So i got up locked my doors and said /$(+ $..... I just locked my keys in the car, the ignition of all places.... So after cars 2. I went in my wifes car to walmart got some hangers and came back to bestbuy to break into my car. Then decided to use the demo laptops in bb to do the esn swap. So 6 hours after getting my phone i could finally use it! After the 30 minute drive home!

I went to radio shack yesterday and they tried to pressure me into preordering and telling me they only had five in stock and telling me about the $100 trade in with the EVO. I decided not to at that point. Called my buddy at best buy mobile and he let me have it for $179 plus they gave me $133 trade on my EVO.

Got my RS call Thursday night at 6:30pm ...Manager says come in Friday after 10am we are trying to do this on a appointment basis schedule (we have 25 on pre-order and are expecting a big crowd) - prior to him calling i was told by 2 different reps they were opening at 8am!

I showed up @ 7:50am lights on, reps at counter -
I was the only one standing by the door!
Out by 8:30ish with Evo 3D in hand
BB right next door as well as Sprint no one in sight!

Landed 3D with all rebates and trade in's with an HTC rubber graphite case (for now) and a zagg screen for $46!

Thats a great upgrade story if you ask me!

Re: LAUNCH DAY THREAD [Tell interesting/humorous Evo 3D launch d

Had and enjoyed my epic 4G until yesterday. I stupidly went swimming with my phone. Looked at what I could replace it with and seen EVO 3D was coming out today. Did a bit of research and headed to the Sprint store in morgantown wv. The store wasn't too busy and I diddnt hear anyone else there for one. Enjoying the phone.

I got to my sprint store at about 11 this morning. Only one in there. Ran into an issue with my number moving over from my other evo and left at almost 1. And it still wasnt working till about 3! But hapoy now.

Got my Evo 3d, convert case, car charger, and invisishield for less than five dollars. yep that's right $5. They even installed my invisishield for free. Traded in my Evo via best buys buy back program and got $300 for it. The people at the store were impressed. Though I did not by the buy back program this time, since I don't plan on getting a new phone for 2 more years, and I figure that this phone will make a suitable back up phone then. It did take about 30 minutes for the geek squad computer system to let me do the buy back. but by that time, the guys over at mobile had my evo 3d activated. FYI best buy does have a trade in program. They told me they would have given me $137 for the evo had I not had the buy back. Needless to say I am happy. I just finished transfering sd contents over and set up my ringtones.

I am impressed with the 3d a lot better than I thought it would be. didn't expect multiple viewing angles, to the point that I merely picked up the phone and looked at it the first time and immediately saw the 3d image.

Deal of the Day! I may have to take a second look at the Buy Back Program.

I strolled into Sprint this afternoon around 2. Everyone dressed in their EVO 3D shirts. I said "Do you have any left?", and the sweet, sweet girl working said "Any more what left?".
I chuckled. I was out in 20 minutes for 60 bucks. New EVO3D in hand.

Re: LAUNCH DAY THREAD [Tell interesting/humorous Evo 3D launch d

OK....i have hesitated in posting this because I'm going to hell (I believe Dan Hesse will be at the gates and say....nuh-uh after reading this)...but let me state the beginning of the story for you...which goes back to June of 2010.

So last year my gf bought a Palm Pre when it first came out. we both liked it a lot - i thought WebOS was a great OS but the underpowered pre, along with no wimax and small keyboard really held it back. There wasn't a tremendous amount of development for it, and having a Samsung Moment myself, I knew where the future was going to be - Android.

Fast forward to June 2010 - I'd been salivating over getting an EVO 4G with wimax - 1ghz Snapdragon processor - 800x480 screen (my moment was 320x480) - kickstand....ooooh I couldn't wait. I wasn't going to buy it until about 2 weeks after it initially came out - money, early adopters and what not. But oh! i JUST had to hold it in my hands!

The day of the launch we went to the Sprint store and having held the TMobile HD2 before I knew what to expect....but oh my, Android was so beautiful on it! We got ~9 or ~10mbit on it from a speedtest app, and the possibilities that were swirling around in my mind (cancel comcast, portable router/hotspot, unlimited 4G).... were truly unlimited!!! What I didn't expect was for my gf to actually *LIKE* it. You see, I had an alterior motive here a little bit, I wanted to show it to her so that maybe she would get it for *me* down the line O:-)

Well, we went home and I remember coming in the door and loading up androidcentral.com on my netbook. I had to read the initial impressions, see the reviews, how did people like the battery? I had been with HTC since the PPC6600/6601 era when I gave up Handspring/Palm's Treo 600. I loved my PPC6700 and all the accesories that came in the box (earphones, docking station with extended battery slot, ac adapter, extra styli, faux-leather case) so I knew since then I would be sticking with HTC for a good while. Unfortunately the TP had me have a separation until Sprint gave me the TP2 for free after a few faulty keyboards on the TP.

Well, as I was reading everyone's lust/love/marriage to the EVO 4G my gf was asking me more about the EVO - were the apps she bought from the Palm Pre transferrable? What was the battery life like? Did TEP cover the EVO the same way they did the Palm Pre? I tried answering them but soon became focused on reading and....if i remember correctly....she left for a little bit. Couldn't remember where (at the time).

Well she came back 2 hours later from Radio Shack and had purchased the EVO 4G off contract - paying full price. I couldn't believe it. I never paid (much) for any phone I've ever had and here she was - paying RS a full $549 (they were $50 more than Sprint!).

And that's where this past history comes to an end - I have felt extremely guilty to this day that she paid half a grand on a phone which - to the best of my knowledge - has been a wonderful investment.

Fast forward to yesterday, June 24th, 2011.

Ever since I heard Best Buy had changed a lot of their policies - no more restocking fee, selling used or opened merchandise for much more reasonable prices, buying your old electronics or mobile phones - I HAD to give them a look. THen i heard about the black tie geek squad protection - for $10 a month you get full protection - minus loss or theft of your device - with a BRAND NEW DEVICE. no refurbishness, no out of pocket $100 fee - brand new, no questions asked, unlimited (not 3 / year) and most importantly, no out of pocket cost. $10 a month.

Now I pay $7 a month with TEP and i've used it 3 or 4 times during my Touch Pro / 6700 days, but since 2009 I refused to pay the increase unless something seriously happened to my phone.

So i went to the BB site a few weeks ago and starting looking around my house. Found my Samsung Moment and HTC Touch Pro 2. BB said the moment (in pretty decent condition) was worth $27 with cable and instructions. Great, i thought, i can keep the micro usb charger. My TP2 was $57 for the same, except that used a mini proprietary. Just keep that in mind for now, $84.

Now my gf dropped her EVO about a month ago outside as she got out of the car. We've each dropped ours about half a dozen times, but usually in our house, carpetted or onto the couch. When her EVO hit the ground i heard a crack and a few expletives. When we got inside the house she had a nice sized crack on her screen - but it was still fully functional. "wow" i thought. not bad.

today after looking at the trade in program, i figured with a crack, we'd get ~$73 for it. i believe the numbers were for poor condition, $73, ok condition (scratches and normal wear and tear scruffs) $107. Pristine, no scratches condition, with booklet and cable, $137.

Well we got $137 for it. Add that to the $84 and we are at $221. keep that in mind.

2 or 3 months ago, like a lot of you i lost my premier gold and got premier silver, and $75 towards a phone. About 1 month ago i wrote an email, i complained and they boosted me back to $150. They also mentioned in the email since i've been a loyal sprint customer they were sorry for the inconvenience and would give me a $25 credit. Hey, i thought, i'll take that too.

Today i figured, ok, i can upgrade to a new phone for $199. i have ~$220 credit. what else can i do?

Oh that's right, i said. i better contact sprint to get an early upgrade credit BEFORE i upgrade my phone.
I called in sprint and told them (as i had been in the past many times) that i was offered an early upgrade credit if i resigned my contract for 2 years.

She looked around, couldn't find anything. Saw at one point i had 5 lines, asked me if maybe i received a text on one of those lines? i said no, they were dc'ed in 2009.

Upon further investigation and a lot of BS on my part, she spoke with her supervisor who told her i had 2 options. I could receive a $75 credit or receive 2x$35 visa credit cards. One now, and one in 3 or 6 months.

But she couldn't find that darn code!

I waited...and waited...patiently. My phone was getting a little hot on my ear,so when she comes back i say it's a friday afternoon at 4pm, I want to go home, i'm sure she wants to go home, and i tell her my phone's battery was starting to die (it was.......kinda). she says well i'm so sorry! I thank her for her patience but I said I don't think I can hold on much longer, whatever credit she could offer I would take it (thinking maybe even a $25 or $40 credit as I've had in the past).

She tells me she will give me $15 off a month for 6 months...($90) and in addition, she will send me out these visa CC's, for $35 each, one now and one in 6 months (i think, or else it's 3 months).

I say sure, or rather, the devil on my shoulder says sure. She says she'll apply the credits and I should see a few account codes activated within 24 hours - that's just her adding them to my account.
she absolutely satisfied and solved my "problem" and i told her i would answer any survey or email that i received and i meant it.

So now we are at $15 credit a month x 6 months (in addition to my other 25% off monthly bill and $20 credit a month for 24 months when i traded in my SERO 17 months ago) and 2 cc's arriving within 6 months time with $35 on each of them. seems like i made out pretty good, i tell myself.

fast forward to BB.
guy at kiosk says he'll give me ~$220 for cracked evo, moment, and tp2. i thought the best i was going to get was $130. ok i say.

in the process of buying the evo 3d, my gf wants a screen protector and case. we get a Zagg invisi shield $21.99 and a PT cruiser case for $35. well, when you buy them with the EVO 3d you get 20% off, so now the zagg is $16.79 and the cruiser is $27.99.

Well i also forgot that i preordered the evo 3d so i have another $50 towards the gift cards, making it an even $270. dang i thought! i need to go get some lottery tickets with my luck!!

then i think about the black tie protection - $10 a month. we get the geek squad buy back as well, normally $60 but when you buy them together it's only $30.

Long story short, we walked out of best buy with Zagg screen which they put on for her, Cruiser shell which is also on it, black tie protection and buy back for

$32 out of pocket!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm not even counting all the credits i accumulated today.
and the worst part of my day so far???

She had her 3d with her at work and i can't play with it until she comes home in the morning and has to sleep during the day!!! Woe is me!!!

And that's the story of why i am going to hell.

Oh, and the buy back price of the 3d if we give it back within 6 months? $350!!! yes, BB is selling the evo 3d for $699 off contract. within 6 months you get 50% of retail, 6-12 months is 40%.

THank you Best Buy. And please don't hate me as I am just telling you my Launch Day story

Wow dude, you really played the system! much luck to you next year, lol!

Re: LAUNCH DAY THREAD [Tell interesting/humorous Evo 3D launch d

Yesterday (launch day), I got to my Radio Shack a little after they opened at 9, with my 2 preorders in hand. I am moving from Verizon and their $230-$250 / month bill for Sprint and a savings of $50-60/ month. I arrived at about 9:10 and was the only one there. At the the time of the preorder, I had gotten approved for a small business account with Sprint which made the porting of my numbers over to Sprint relatively easy. I was there for a little over an hour and the RS employees were great.
I was switching from a Droid X and my wife from an unbelievably glitchy and dying Eris. The 3D has the specs I want and the HTC Sense that my wife loves from her Eris. Now we are a 2 Evo 3D family.
The only problem was that I wanted to get an EVO 4G for my teen since it is free now at RS with a 2 yr contract and the RS was out of them. Not a problem I thought, bc I can just go to another RS in town or order from RS.com. Before I left I got sceen protectors and cases for all 3 phones at a bundled savings (15% off of first case, 25% off of 2nd case and 50% off of the other case and all the screen protectors)
The only other glitch was the Sprint savings I was supposed to get because I am a member of a credit union. When I did my preorder at RS in May they told me to bring in proof of membership in a Credit Union when I got my EVO 3D's.They said I would qualify for free activations and 10% off of my monthly bill. I brought in my last Credit Union statement but when the RS employee said she was having trouble telling on her system if the discount went in and that I should probably call Sprint in the next day or 2 to conrirm the billing discounts.
To make a long story short, I went to another RS in town later yesterday, got the EVO 4G, had them port my teens Verizon # (goodbye Verizon and good luck :-$). Again there was a slight glitch in getting that # on the same plan at Sprint as my other 2 numbers so I needed to call Sprint about that.
So when I got home last night I called Sprint and got a very helpful CS Rep who immediately got all 3 of my numbers on the right plan. When I mentioned the Credit Union discount he said there was no sign of a discount like that on my account but that he would apply it to my account. He then stated that the CU discount is 15% per month, free activations, and yearly upgrades. Can't beat that.
He then submitted it, gave me the case number, told me it should go through by Monday and set up a time to call me Monday evening to tell me the discount went through. I know it is easy to promise and harder to deliver but Sprint has gotten off to a great start with me.Yesterday I got 3 state of the art smartphones for my my family, and all accesories for less than $500, plus I will be saving over $50/ month over my old Verizon bill where I also had 3 lines but only 2 of the 3 had smartphones and the associated data plans that go with them.
By the way, I was the only phone customer at the original RS the 1st 1 1/2 hours they were open, and I was at the 2nd RS store getting the EVO 4G about 45 mins before they closed at 9 last night and the manager said they had sold 5 Evo 3D's that day. I think they might start selling a lot more once people realize Verizon is not the be all and end all of cellular carriers, especially once they upgrade after July 7 and have to start paying for tiered data.

Yeah no kidding. There was a time when I was very jealous of Verizon customers. Now, I'm glad I stuck with Sprint because with the moves that Big Red has been making this year, that envy has turned to sympathy.
