Per everyones recommendation I installed Launcher Pro this am and have been setting everything up. I finally figured out how to get back to the TW so that I could stop the widgets running on that launcher so they wouldn't be running twice, thus killing battery. One thing I am wondering is can you change the standard 5 icons at the bottom of the screen? Currently it shows, phone, contacts, applications, messages and browser. Is it possible to customize those 5 icons to make them different?

Bryan

BTW Launcher Pro is MUCH swifter than Touch Wiz. Very responsive!

should you kill all apps before installing launcher pro? pickin up my charge today and by reading everything here it looks like launcher pro will be on my new phone.

THX

What do you mean by "killing" apps. I have removed all the widgets from my TouchWiz screens and added them to the Launcher Pro screens. Is there something else that I need to do?

Like the op said its very important to delete all Widgets on the original launcher before you start using launcher pro or another launcher. Otherwise the Widgets are still running in the background and killing memory /battery.

No I'm not sure what the poster means either.

Additionally launcher pro can be used to hide bloatware apps. So if you aren't rooting or waiting for a bit until you do, you don't have to see that mess.

I meant widgets, sorry. So delete all widgets then install launcher pro? what widgets will be running? sorry, first android phone. weather, sms...... that kind of stuff?

Well widgets are different than application shortcuts, both of which can be displayed on each screen.

Widgets are the real battery killers but I think having too many shortcuts could also impact the battery? Experts?

Just delete alk your widgets and application short cuts from the home screens before you start using launcher pro. After you download launcher pro and run it for the first time you will be prompted to make either that or touchwiz(stock launcher) your default. Make launcher pro the default at this point. You can always change that and go back to touch wiz ( if you forgot to delete some widgets) by going to settings>applications >manage apps>launcher pro>and click the default buttton.

To delete widgets or app shortcuts long-press and hold the respective widget or shortcut. A trash can will appear on the bottom of the screen. Drag the widget or shortcut to the trash can.

To add widgets and shortcuts long press an open area of a screen. A menu should guide you through the rest.

I installed this app right when I got the phone and somehow disabled it. Now I cannot for the life of me find where to use it again. I looked under "Manage Applications" to make sure it is still there, and it is. How can I find it again?

download (if you haven't already) the app "Home Switcher"

i'm guessing you already downloaded/installed home switcher and that's why you can't find Launcher Pro in your applications drawer.

however, regardless of this, LauncherPro is still in the manage applications list.

Nope. I haven't downloaded Home Switcher.

Edit: I just downloaded and that made it real easy to switch back and forth. Thanks for the tip.

I have to say I was hesitant to install LauncherPro, but wow, my Charge is sooooo much faster with it versus TouchWiz.

I went to shutdown my phone and when I brought it back up I received this error: Activity LauncherPro (in process LaunderPro) is not responding.

Is this normal after a shutdown?

I've never had that message before. I own the Incredible though, but I doubt its specific to the Charge. Did you try rebooting again? You might need to uninstall and reinstall Launcher Pro.

Trying GO launcher right now. Its almost the same ad launcher pro. Just eant to see if battery life and performance is any different.

You can add more icons to the launcher-swipe right or left and you'll see plus signs. Long press and add additional items to your hearts content. Then just swipe back to your main one. I have no shortcuts on my desktop, because all the ones I need fast access to are in my various docks-a swipe right or left and they are all at my fingertips.

Yupp. That's a super cool feature. Shouldn't really need more than 3 screens. Max.

Except for calendar and task widgets if you make them full screen size.

The other great thing about GO Launcher is the numerous free and paid theme packs. It doesn't have a good calendar widget like launcher pro, so try Business Calendar or Pure Calendar in the market.
