I just want to say thanks to Cory and everybody here in the forums. I did mine yesterday afternoon when this was fairly new and before Cory had the detailed instructions.

  • I started from a DL09 OTA stock ROM that I had rooted.
  • Copied the Froyo zip to my card.
  • Installed the CWM Red but made the mistake of rebooting and not going right into recovery. When I went into recovery it was the standard Samsung one. Had to push CWM Red again and immediately went into recovery this time.
  • Wiped data and cache.
  • Installed the Froyo zip.
  • BAM - I had Froyo!
  • After the initial setup, I re-downloaded MyBackup Pro to restore my apps and their data since the only apps on the market for me were the paid ones. Unfortunately, all the market links were gone (differences between 2.1 and 2.2 perhaps).
  • Used AppBrain to go through the apps - view details - view in Market then reinstalled. Took about 20 minutes, but I had all my settings from MyBackup Pro intact.

Use LauncherPro Plus, Beautiful Widgets, Handcent and everything seems to be working fine. Definitely quicker. Ran Linpack and it scored 13.546 MFLOPS in 6.19 seconds. If I remember right, it used to be high 8's or 9's.

Anyway, Froyo is a great addition on this phone. What it should have been from the start.

Thanks again to the whole AC forums community.

The next thing I think is important is to un Voodoo it. With all due respect to the Voodoo author, that hack has been the source of 80% of the problems in this forum since the Fascinate went on sale.

It's overrated and a p.i.t.a imho. I haven't used it since it came out but I ended up having to odin back to DI01 in order to get rid of the damn thing. Did every method of uninstall I could find and the phone wouldn't boot. Other than the pretty quadrant gains, the gains in responsiveness are minimal and more trouble than it's worth.

what does voodoo do anyway.. when i boot into cwm by pressing power and the volume button i boot iin cwm voodoo fix.. whats up with that but when i boot in recovery via root manager its green??

not panicing or nothing just curious..

I might be slightly off here, because I've pretty much avoided it, but supposedly it helps with lag and boosts performance. I think it monkeys with the memory somehow.

As far as CWR, the one I had you flash is red. That's the one you'll see if you boot into it at power up. If you boot into recovery via ROM manager you will see the green one. The stock is blue.

I cant remember how to put apps on sd card, I did it on my DINC and DX but now I have froyo on my fasn8 I can't figure it out.... They r still on my phone and not thee card.... Is there a setting I'm forgetting about???

That's what I hear over and over again, and it's really frustrating to have to see members go through that :/

oh ok where u able to change fonts?

I really hate to see everyone having all these FC loops. The procedure was written based off a rooted, debloated, but otherwise stock (no 3rd party apps or other settings configured) phone. I did not take pre existing 3rd party apps or settings into account.

That said, if anyone can think of some things people should do before they start the flash, I'm all ears. One possible solution is to hard reset before flashing, but I realize that isn't a popular suggestion.

I actually think a hard reset with a fresh, clean device is the way to go. I tried it twice yesterday without doing that and had issues. Finally gave up, went back to DI01 then DL09, THEN Froyo. Since you have to be rooted to do this to begin with, use something like MyBackupPro and do a backup of apps AND data before you start. Once you get Froyo installed, selectively install from your backup (a few at a time, reboot, test, continue).

As a result of having done this I am now experiencing virtually NO issues other than the "known" ones (pop email). My sounds stayed intact, etc.

I feel like I have a cleaner device overall...so while it was a lot of extra work...I actually like having started from where I am now.

I don't know if this will make any sense to people, but one of the things I don't like in this build is that the input popup never opens up when I'm typing in a form such as this one in a web browser. As someone who pretty much manages the whole forum from his phone, it's kind of painful.

The other thing is I wish they hadn't taken airplane mode out of the notification panel. I needed that more than an auto rotation button.

I HATE the fact I no longer have a ".com" button on my keyboard. HATE HATE HATE!!

I could change it to chooky hooky or whatever it's called. When I clicked download online it opened up the market. I downloaded a free one, but I didn't try it out, because the last thing I need is to have to reflash all over again if it breaks something :p

I think this is the way to go to, but I suggested this in gigantic black font in the EVO and Incredible days, and I repeated it over and over, but nobody wants to do it haha.

Hysterical!!

Hehe

I downloaded 2 fonts last night and couldn't find a way to get them available to select. Upon looking a bit online it seems as if a font program is needed, and when I tried to find that it said my phone was not yet compatible.

Has anyone else tried to download additional fonts from the market, and if so were you able to get them to show up in the settings menu and select?

I've read EVERY post since this started yesterday and I want to give a BIG thanks to Chris, Cory and DroidX. I knew nothing before yesterday and have learned LOTS! You all rock!

Which keyboard? Chris and I always joke because we both switch keyboards like 9 times a day lol.

Smart Keyboard Pro has it. That keyboard looks best with the Galaxy S skin.

Side note:

Edit: [url-http://www.multiupload.com/4DYBTFYX3V]Here[/url] is the Gingerbread KB if anyone wants it. I don't see a .com in it either though.

How is everyone's GPS and battery life? Maybe its my imagination, but my GPS does not seem to lock as quick as before.

okay, got everything bak up and running but I still get fc message: the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly.

What is this?
