Lets clear things: How much screen on time are you getting on a charge?

(multi-selection) your average screen on time on a charge? your standby battery loss (if you know)

Those are some key google features you've disabled. You have some excellent stats but most of us would want these features on

I don't use Google now or Google "listening", never have. So having them enabled and causing wakelocks is pointless for me.

Battery life is so hard to measure since there are so many variables. My wife gets better battery life than me but she barely touches her phone and has better signal at work. My Sprint signal at work is god awful. I miss emails and other stuff and as soon as it registers to a new tower I get an overload of messages. I really think if you avg 3-5 hours of on screen time your phone is working the way it should. I do have a feeling that the google play services is what's taking some peoples battery down. I think sync and the location based services are the drain.

We have many battery threads now, I think its helpful for people to get a general idea of its "average SOT" before making further assessments and establishing expectations.

sorry for the long list, please make 2 selections (if possible)

1. your network and SOT
2. your standby performance

I'm not entirely certain, but I do use WiFi almost all the time. If I'm not home, and can't get the Xfinity (via Comcast) signal - which is Very Rare. I never leave my mobile data and WiFi on at the same time/together, cuz that slaughters battery life.) So really No point at all in doing that, unless someone sends me an MMS, like a pic (mostly chicks lol), or if the other guitarist, (or my drummer - who just had a brain tumor surgically removed - in my band send(s) me something new he's/they're working on (usually just the audio in either .wav or .mp3 formats, and the occasional, but rare/sporadic .mp4 or .vid format videos so I can see how Jarrett, my other guitarist, plays whatever it is he's working on, so I can lay down leads to it, an octave or so higher, or anything that goes along well with the rhythm guitar, n I'll throw in some legato and sweep-picking solos (mostly just leads, but occasional solos that last like 30-40sec, before a heavy-*** breakdown.) Sorry for rambling about that stuff. Just got home from a rehearsal/jam session with my rhythm player :-D And it does pertain to the battery situation. W Straight Talk, I get AT&T 4G LTE service just about everywhere now, and their nearest tower they put up (it's actually a 4G/LTE micro cell that's legit a stone's throw away from my house lol. But using one or the other doesn't make much difference w my battery life, since it doesn't hafta search much for my LTE signal, n my router is in my room for my WiFi. Best way to find out is to keep the screen on indefinitely in the settings menu (I'm pretty sure you can still do that with L.) And make sure to check your wake locks regularly. That'll show how often your phone wakes up when not in use, to use the radio/receiver to find or search for an LTE signal. And that Definitely drains the battery. I generally get anywhere between 3-6hrs of legit screen-on time, depending on what I'm doing. Playing games, I'm lucky to get an hour or two, especially cuz the game I play most is the new UFC game, which has Amazing graphics, which pushes your Adreno 330 GPU to the max, along with using all 4 cores of your Snapdragon 800. My battery was better than ever once I got my 5.1 OTA (build LMY47I - r_3), but now after 3wks, it's crashing badly, my battery life is back to dog ****, my Google Music player stops n won't play till I force stop it, close it, then open it back up. Also, just yesterday, when I'd try to open my camera with ANY app, including the stock camera app, it says "error: failed to initialize camera." Not verbatim, but you get the gist. Idk how it was the best phone ever after immediately following the 5.1 OTA, and within 2-3wks, it's like I'm back on 5.0.1, which I loathed with every ounce of my being lol. Praying they push 5.1.1 OTA Very soon, so maybe it'll make my phone awesome for more than a couple weeks, and for the first time since the initial 5.0 launch, which was Awesome. I don't wanna do a factory reset, guess I'll tolerate it till they release 5.1.1. In the meantime, I think (since my phone is past its warranty) I'm going to get a Seidio 3200mAh replacement. Couldn't simpler to swap batteries in the N5, regardless what LG/Google say. I've replaced 4 friends' batteries in their N5's with HC Seidio aftermarket batteries. And they love their phones again. Think that's the best route to take until 5.1.1 is pushed OTA. And there's no guarantee that will fix issues, at least not long term. Hope this helped. Again, sorry for rambling. Been up for 3 days straight LOL.

I can probably get around 5.5 SoT. 5th Cycle on this phone's battery. 1st charged was using fast charger 2-5 were wireless.

I starting to get 4.5+ hrs after the 3rd cycled.

Auto brightness setting. I work under mercury-vapor lighting, so screen was a little brighter than usual when it was on.

What is interesting is I was getting very good on screen time but every since factory reset 3 days ago it went sort of downhill. Was going from 4.5-5 hrs, so now around 3.5-4 hrs. I'm still content with those stats as I love the phone endlessly, but just odd and maybe related to my software and battery reconfiguring.

Ain't complaining though, I'm at 2.5 hours on screen with 52% remaining. ..if this was my nexus 5 it would be dead.

Idle on wifi is about 1% an hour on wifi. Lte idle is a little better

SOT runs about 15% an hour on wifi.

the current discussion is wrongly headed. There are people complaining about bad battery with 4-5hr sot, there are people beinf happy with 3 hr sot. There are people suggesting 7hr sot.

If people don't even know what are the average expectation, there is no way to tell him or her if the phone is normal or not, or if there is a problem to be worried about at all..

I think people who post on these type forums know what the average expectation of a device is, hence the outbreak of battery threads in this forum.

The real controversial issue is that there is no issue with battery life.

I don't care what Andrew said in the podcast, he is dead wrong. While there are always going to be phones that just don't work for us no matter what, and some well respected members like my friend hero who just can't do well with his S6 in his country, or some others who are on T-Mobile. There really isn't a real battery issue.

Sure lollypop has some bugs that drain battery life, but nothing like we see on broken or phones like we watched with T-Mobile. If your phone is not a lemon and it has great firmware for your radios you should have 5 to 6 hours of SoT regardless that you may find cell standby listed in the battery setting. Some depending on use will get more SoT and total standby. Some will get less.

I've tested my phone in two ways. One way with everything turned on, and another with everything on but a few tweaks to add some battery life (such as wifi on but always scanning off). I get an extra hour of SoT and 2 extra hours of standby with the tweaks. Both tests are as follows....

3 hours of gaming (DH5, hearthstone, PBA bowling)
At least 1 hour of YouTube
1 hour of web browsing
Some light texts, email, bla, bla
Everything syncing but social media. Located services turned on with phone tracking services and geotaging on photos and videos.

Tests are stopped and screen shot as close to 20% remaining battery or completed fully and then pics are recorded no matter what the remainder is of battery. Both tests completed before the 20 percentile.

Auto brightness is too dim for me indoors so I set it to 35% or if gaming or watching videos it's at 50% brightness. Outdoors it is always on auto.

There is no way that with my results that anyone can say that with over 5 hours of screen on time and 16 hours of standby with everything turned on is poor battery life on AT&T. Yet Andrew says on the podcast that the S6 is so bad with battery life "that the only way you are going to get good battery life is with your S6 on your desk doing nothing."

You can't tell me that he doesn't know that others not on T-Mobile are doing battery wise. You can't tell me that Andrew hasn't seen my screen shots that are listed in almost every battery thread, sometimes multiple times. You can't tell me that Phil is not once again trying to start controversy against Samsung like the S4 vs m7 just two years ago. Nobody could even keep a straight face and was laughing every time they were talking about the battery.

There will always be issues with all new releases. But bugs will be fixed. Issues will be solved. The S6 is far from perfect.
There will always be exceptions and some no matter what will have awfully bad battery life. But truly, there is no battery issue globally.

As for trying to understand what is normal for battery life, everyones battery life will be different but it should last you approximately the same or better battery life compared to the S4 or m7 with slightly better SoT or standby. If such phones were used by you and you were fine with the battery life then you'll be happier with the S6 even with the lollypop issues.

I'll repost the screen shots once again here if requested. I normally don't care what others think when it comes to what phone I should buy. I buy what is best for me as I tell others to do and not what is popular or hip at the moment. I'm in no way defending my purchase. I couldn't care less if people like our hate the phone. But when all you are seeing is battery threads questioning what is really going on it takes a toll when all the proof is out there and yet people are still worried? There is no battery issue with the S6 unless you have a lemon, have bad firmware for your county or carrier, or are on T-Mobile and refuse to change a setting or what seems like changing what wifi band you use.

Ah yes, the old favorite "Since I'm not experiencing problems with my device that means everybody else is lying about theirs" has reared it's shallow head once more.

All I want acknowledged, regardless of whether you're getting hit with the Lollipop cell standby/Google services bugs or not, is that the S6 battery life is pretty solid when you grade an unaffected device. Because it is. It's been proven with numerous screenshots, benchmarks from reputable sites like Anandtech, and anecdotal reviews from other reputable sites.

Thanks Captain Obvious! Of course "unaffected" devices are going to perform fine. Because they're...um...Unaffected.

Any idea for Facebook and Google Play Services having such high usage percentages. They are consistently the top 2 in my battery usage list.

I have disabled Google Now and unnecessary syncing as well, also Facebook has zero notifications activated.

I'm getting roughly 4 hours of screen on time per charge but I feel like I could be getting 5+ relatively easily if Google Play Services weren't such pigs.

.

What is interesting is I never had this problem when i initially set up my phone at the shop...but before the weekend i did a factory reset to run a full clean slate, and ever since then Google Play Services are in my top 3 constantly...i have no idea why, my apps are all updated and i have google now off.

My first charge never had this issue, on my 2nd and 3rd charges this started popping up. Nothing changed settings wise between those charges either.

Try updating Google services it worked for me. After the update its barely on my list of usage anymore.

If you've read most of these battery threads, people still argue that the battery life sucks even if it's not seeing cell standby drain.

Right so what do we do? My battery isn't horrible by any means but I get the impression giving this would extend it further
