Let's Talk about 9.0 Pie On Pixel 3

Swiping up twice to get the app drawer is clunky. And you can only go in one direction with the multitask gesture. You should be able to go both ways.

With the pixel 3(non xl) it is very easy to continue swiping up to bypass multitask section...it's very well implemented for me, seamless and quick.

Okay.. I can see that as a possible approach. I just think they're committed to a next logical step with OS 10 and some of those things might not be as functional if they maintain the 3 button system. I'm basing that soley on their decision to not include it as an option on the Pixel 3. I mean, there's gotta be a reason to do it with Pixel, but still leave it as a programming choice for other OEMs.

I mean I understand what your saying , but what if they left 3 buttons out like the did with some of the camera features or notch hide option . If you look at 1+6t it's using 3 gestures system 1.buttons 2.swipe 3.pill like the pixel but better app drawer and recent app gestures

I've watched a couple of videos on OxygenOS on 9.0. It's interesting for sure. Without ever using it, my first thought was it kinda seems like it defeats the purpose of keeping things simple, but at the same time I can see how having the choices available would be attractive to certain users.

Disgree on the first point, as I see true functional value in the two step system. It's fluid when engaged as intended.

I gave you my opinion and why it sucks. It's not functional.

Apple does gestures better. That's an objective reality.

Yeah it's more for that like stock Android but want a little more customization without having a heavy skin

If you can switch apps, it's functional. "Apple does gestures better" is an opinion and subjective.

I'm not fighting with ya. i appreciate the point of view.

It's not that it's not functional the way it is just doesn't feel fluid or well thought out how it goes about it....like you do simple swipe that normal gets you into your app drawer now you presented with 2 options that's wasn't my intention . Once your in your app drawer you already have your most used apps on top why it has to be in both places. If you have used on lot of other phones with gestures you don't run into this . Is it workable the way it is yes but not preferred.

Gestures are fine for me, I didn't use iPhone or any other form of them so maybe that's why I'm ok...they see functional to me and I've got no real issues with the way they're setup on pixel 3

Indeed. I just see no need to go into the app drawer that constantly. Maybe some people do need to go into a space with 100 apps to choose from. If they're going in there 5 .. 6... 20 times a day, I can see it being an issue every now and then. But I think most people use less than 10 apps on a daily basis, and 5 of those would be found in poredictive.

Fluid is another thing. I find the drawer perfectly fluid from the recent apps screen... Yes it takes two motions, but the old system took two actions too as you had to go home first from wherever you are and then access the drawer from there.

I do have lot of apps but you remember in oereo with buttons one swipe you were in app drawer 2nd swipe right home very fast fluid some how they need to combine that same fluid motion with recent apps ...just need a little tweak should be ok . But what else you find useful in pie?

I like the adaptive brightness feature, but I think the adaptive battery needs a it more time to settle all the way in and see if there's any real benefits to using it.

I like the screen call feature. Most people hang up, but I actually did have a delivery guy actually speak to it trying to find my house.

One thing I'd actually like to use, but never think about is the app actions. I think that feature should be moved to the homescreen somewhere and get it to the forefront. It's wasted in the app drawer, for sure.

Adaptive battery is only going get better, machine learning im liking a lot . App actions should be put somewhere with recent apps above or underneath it . Screen call looks good but I haven't used it much .

Ha! Video published just today ... 11 mins a bit long, BUT he does cover a number of gestures on different devices.

Gestures are terribly implemented, the recent apps page is generally less useful and slower to use, adaptive battery too aggressively kills background apps, and the digital well-being "beta" feature is useless. Who's idea was it to make an app to constantly track your usage of other apps? Like, "Oh, you use apps too much? Let's make an app that gives you a bunch of statistics for you to obsessively track how much time you're using other apps."

As a google fanboy, (I've owned every google phone except for the very first one and the pixel 1 and 2, and I'm fully decked out with every google smart home device), I'm embarrassed by the Pixel phones and android pie. It's cringey how bad this phone launch is.

Google should be embarrassed that OnePlus somehow managed to release not only a faster and more optimized version of their software, but a more feature packed version with a more intuitive and user friendly ui....all only two weeks after the Pixel was released. OnePlus was even smart enough to not make the mistake that Google did with the notch.

Cue the defensive and apologetic stockholm syndrome-like responses from people who think google can do no wrong.....

The Pixel 3 launch is like...

Wow so much negativity around the gestures thankfully I don't care and work perfectly fine lol honestly I see the complaints and to me it's 'meh', not that big a deal.

Haha!Well, I don’t have any apologetic Stockholm syndrome, but I definitely disagree.

Google needs some work lol

I like motorola's gesture system. I wish I could port it to my phone. I tried a couple apps that have gesture pill, but they require you to hide the entire navi bar and then the pill floats over the app's UI and blocks things so it's not really ideal.
