LG and Google announce the Nexus 4, 8GB $299

So is it worth dumping Verizon for this phone?

I am thinking about it. My wife and I both have iPhone 4 's and while we like Apple ok, we have no plans to get a 5 (not enough stuff changed). We can renew with Verizon in December, but it will be April before our contracts are up. I'm thinking of switching to GSM because I like the phone options it offers.

Really really thinking about picking up a Nexus4 and switching to Pageplus... no contract, awesome phone, Att service and $60 cheaper per month than our current Verizon plan... so yes, I am thinking about switching!

Page plus is CDMA you cannot use this phone with them, your options are AT&T to tmobile and all of their mvnos

Page plus uses Verizon towers actually.

Why aren't more people pissed about this? I guess its either the Note 2 or HTC DLX for me.

Clearly need to spend more time in the Nexus 4 forums.

Nov 17 I am getting a VZW iPhone 5 16GB upgrade and selling it on ebay. The upgrade will go over $800. What I make on ebay I can easily pay for $350 early termination fee + $200 upgrade and have $200 or more got to the N4. Depends on your area but I been T-mobile before speed, and reception was good. Verizon is faster 3G but not much better and barely use LTE so I am going back to T-mobile. At&t is good were I live too but T-mobile is more in budget now.

Most people don't like carrier model nexus devices. The carriers really hinder what nexus devices are supposed to be for Google. For now N4 is only on T-mobile but they be on other carriers in coming month with LTE. This depends on if carriers will play by Google's rules or Google cave to theirs again.

I just find it sad that one phone comes out a year with pure Google and to get it you pretty much have to switch carriers every year. The biggest thing the N4 seems to have going for it is the price ... which isn't a big concern for me.

According to the quick start guide for the Nexus 4 call on the lg site, the micro USB port and the HDMI slim port are 1 in the same. I suppose they crowded in a few extra pins that contact a different cable.

I did notice that its the same port but does that make it some variant of MHL?

You know there is still a chance that Google will still release CDMA/LTE versions after initial launch of the HSPA+ version. Example: Nexus S 4G. The NS4G showed up halfway through the Nexus S' life span and was still being sold as top of the line Nexus phone by Sprint long after the Galaxy Nexus was available by Verizon and in the Play Store. So if you are on a CDMA based carrier waiting is still a viable option, but if you are on AT&T and just wanting LTE I have a bit of doubt that Google will make an N4 special just of them. Even T-Mobile is selling the N4 unlocked but with a contract option from what I understand. It is the Nexus S Best Buy partnership all over again, and unlike that and the Verizon partnerships this may work in Google's favor. T-Mobile wants to be in good standing with the giant as has supported Android since the first device came out and I know they are kinda weak and desperate looking but they are doing their best to gain a good standing with the people who will and are using them. I'm not pitching a sale I don't work for T-Mobile but I do recognize when a real effort is being made by a company to not be a dill hole.

Pretty doubtful because when the Galaxy Nexus was announced last year they also announced plans for CDMA devices and that wasn't the case this year. Google got burned by Verizon and Sprint so I wouldn't hold my breath as to a CDMA device coming anytime soon.

Burned by Sprint?

Nexus S 4G and Galaxy Nexus.

Not to mention, Google Wallet and Google Voice integration.

Just saying.

I'm definitely getting the phone. Excellent specs, nice aesthetics, amazingly good price.

In Australia, our 4G LTE network is still in its infancy and only in a small radius around the cities. However our 3G networks are quite robust and I consistently get 10mbit down speeds, so the Nexus 4 with DC-HSPA will hopefully get double that (or close to at least).

From my understanding, our 3G networks seem to have better speeds than some of America's 4G networks. Our 4G speeds in the cities are 40-50mbit. Until more people jump on 4G.

Yea but its still T-mobile...lol

Every nexus has worked on GSM networks. The reason is because GSM spectrum is open and updates don't need to go through carriers. CDMA phones are locked down hence no sim cards.

You can have a CDMA network that uses SIM cards.

I agree with Ry Sprint has been one of Google's greatest allies in the CDMA realm. Even T-Mo doesn't have full support for Google Voice and doesn't officially support Google Wallet although they don't actively attempt to block it like some carrier we know.
