LG G3: How am I supposed to hold this thing?

Re: How am I supposed to hold this thing?

IMO, LG does an amazing job to keep this device at it's size while still putting in a 5.5" 1440p screen. This device on the hardware front is what the OnePlus One was supposed to be but failed. It's the same height of the HTC One M8 and only 4mm thicker wider, but you get another 0.5" screen size and much more pixels. It's not much bigger than other flagships.

LG made those people who clamor for almost bezel-less displays pretty happy with this design I guess. Unfortunately I'm not one of them. I hate playing games and watching movies on devices that don't have a decent bezel. I hate having to "crab grip" the back of the phone with my hand and finger tips to avoid touching the screen because it's not natural or comfortable. And when I'm holding it in landscape in this awkward unnatural fashion, and I want to change the volume, I have to carefully place my thumb on that non existent bezel while reaching behind the phone. Not liking this design decision, I think it was spawned more by wanting to be gimmicky rather than by practicality and function.

+1^
Showiness seems to have become more important than actual functionality.
Must keep up with the Joneses, of course!

I personally love the look and feel of a phone with next to no bezel. I have never had an issue holding or using it in landscape or portrait. But I can see where you are coming from. Maybe try it before you knock it? You may be surprised by how fast you adapt. If I wanted bezels I would buy an iphone. :P

Thats all personal preference. If you are going with "showiness" I doubt you would chose an LG device since the average person doesn't even know they make phones.

Re: How am I supposed to hold this thing?

I am so tired of the same complaints from people. Has the Internet and life made every too sensitive and annoying? It's just the same silliness. The phone is too big, the phone has too many brandings, how will i be able to use it with one hand. Why isn't it brushing my teeth for me. The phone is a fraction of an inch bigger than the g2 and that makes this phone that much bigger? As if the g2 wasn't "big" enough. This small bump is going to make it unwieldy or undesireable?

I am a small guy and i am constantly looking for a bigger screen. So, i don't know what most people are doing wrong but my small hands have no issues with the g2 and if i upgrade to the g3, will have no issues with that. One hand, selfies, typing, playing games...holding the phone. Yes. Good for me.

There is so much knit-picking on the Internet and for phones its disgusting. If you don't like it, don't post and don't get the phone. Better yet, take it to facebook or something. No one cares if it's not the phone for you.

Ya ya, don't read it if you don't like it. Don't get mad bro. I get it. I'm not mad. Ignorance, is annoying, though.

Your first sentence pretty much sums it up.
Unfortunately you appear to be in the minority... In other words less revenue following the wants of the minority; just a basic business model.

Re: How am I supposed to hold this thing?

I think bezels on a tablet is a worthwhile argument. But they are not nearly big enough on a phone that has them to warrant their use for holding comfort.

The average person knows Star Trek.
That's all that counts for wannabe bezelless smartphone owners.

Not to be rude or hurtful to the sensitive, but...If you want to play games, get a tablet. If you want to watch movies, get a bigger tablet. If you OCCASIONALLY want to play a game or watch a video while waiting on a bus or train, then buy a large screen phone like this one.

I can top that, my aunt who's also 5'3" and she loves her Sony XPERIA Ultra.

I don't know why I come to there forums any more.
All I see is people whining like little spoiled kids.
Its either to big or to small. Its either not fast enough or to slow.
Its always something that a phone can't be perfect. Yet everyone wants the perfect phone. Well it doesn't exist. Build your own phone.

No offense, but I think these forums were set up so people could share their opinions, positive or negative. Sure some of it gets repetitive, but that's kind of how it is. And sometimes someone shares a negative opinion and someone else will have a solution for it.

G Flex has a six inch screen and fairly minimal bezels. And most of the time when holding it my fingers are at the side and back NOT on the front bezel. It only takes a few ounces pressure to push the volume keys, easier than side mounted volume on many phones.

And in landscape I have *literally never EVER* had to do something as barbaric as hold it down with my thumb while adjusting the volume. The pads on the edge of your palm at the base of your fingers will confine the device perfectly while your middle finger adjusts the volume. These devices are not to be held with the center of the palm, but with the PADS of the palm. A natural fulcrum point that makes it easier to hold and improves thumb access. SMALLER phones are held at the center of the palm and make your hands cramp up a bit....

Re: How am I supposed to hold this thing?

Seriously

If you are concerned about how to hold the phone, get a smaller phone

That's rich coming from the guy who said eye scrolling was a crucial feature of the Samsung so he could eat chicken wings :-))
