LG G4 First Impressions & Pending Review

Re: Will you be rooting?

I'm a recovered rooter/flasher. I used to root everything as soon as it was available and run custom roms and kernels. Then I got the '13 Moto X and just stopped. I had no burning desire to add or remove anything, it just worked. Android had matured to the point where everything I was flashing to get was there and Moto did an exellent job of skinning for positive improvements or additions. I ran that baby for over 18 mos and probably would still use it if not for the camera. Screen size too was a pull.

No case on my brown leather G4. Defeats the purpose of buying the leather variant :)

Edited due to spelling error.

Don't lose Faith in the LG G4

You must believe, just close your eyes and say it will get better...

Seriously though i know a few are having sensitivity issue's, non optimal battery (this has many factors and a huge topic). There have been screen flickers ect.

For the lesser of the issue's I'm sure updates will be on their way hang in there. As for the others i may be worth returning if the basic to do's are not working.

Every device has there little things at release and most get ironed out quickly.

Some are just lucky and all is relatively stable and all is good for them.

Its great that reports are there both good and bad this helps us all.

But before you throw in the towel do a bit of thinking, but if its that bad return and try another.

Don't loose faith this is a great device 😀

I do try to keep things positive despite the negatives (life's lessons) but I'm sure many will make the decision that is right for them.

Just that usually and niggles do get ironed out in time :-)

I absolutely love this phone. I hear the touch sensitivity thing will be fixed in a software update in due time.

My unit is fine for the most part and battery is great in my experience thus far.

Just want for those who would otherwise love this phone ( allow for those updates to happen)

Before loosing faith (No i don't work for Lg) 😜

Re: Everything is a breeze...

Duncan I appreciate your patience and positivity... Way too many times I have seen just the opposite elsewhere..

While I don't have any complaints about the phone, calling the customer service line leaves a great deal to be desired... I wished those folks in the Philippines were more current on the promotions.

Anywho got 2 new leather backs ordered for the price of 1 and I am pretty happy about that.

Anyone else have a spouse that you have to explain why you have to get a new phone every year to?

My wife has given up complaining about my phone swapping. I know she notices when I get a new phone. I catch a hint of anger in her eyes but she keeps it to her self now. I don't complain when she buys a bunch of new shoes or clothes. FYI this comparison never works in a debate.

Re: Is your G4 Naked?

I really like the brown leather back on my T-Mobile G4 but I'm probably going to get a Zerolemon battery case when they release it for the LG G4.

Re: Will you be rooting?

I'll definitely be rooting, I need my unlimited tethering back. I burned up my 5GB tether allocation in one day. I need my wifi tether router working again.

Re: Will you be rooting?

I will once they come up with a Bootloader unlock for the H810. Right now the device is just too new and Development for it is going to be slow coming.

Re: Will you be rooting?

Haven't rooted since my Droid 3. Admittedly, that's because I moved to the M7, and Sense is so lean 'n mean, I just didn't see the point. I think the only thing that could move me to root/unlock would be cleaning off the bloatware. But even that isn't too egregious, since I can disable the crap. And having microSD expansion makes the available storage less of an issue, so for the time being, I feel no pressing urge to nuke the useless fodder Verizon added to the phone.

Re: Will you be rooting?

I'll be rooting. I hate that when you change the phones font, only certain apps change. It's an OCD nightmare lol.
There were also certain bloat apps I couldn't disable, so can't wait to use Titanium for that. Certain apps like Greenify have many more features once given SU access as well.

Re: Will you be rooting?

Yes, I need to fix 2 of my 3 issues with the phone. Bloatware and hotspot are the only things that I can fix. Qi wireless...

Re: Will you be rooting?

There are three reasons to root:

1. To run an app that requires root - such as Titanium Backup. For many that is the primary reason to root.
2. Control over your phone - root allows you of course to access system root, and to have root privileges. So the carrier logo can be removed from the splash screen, annoying carrier apps/bloatware can be removed, etc. But having root authority also gives the user the ability to completely hose the system. So you have to be careful.
3. Changing ROMs - related to the reason above. Replace your carrier ROM with something else like cyanogenmod. You need some time on your hands to jump down this rabbit hole.

Unlocking the bootloader is not always required for root, but there are compelling reasons to root only if the bl can be unlocked.

As Android evolves there's less reason to root. But unlocking the bootloader, rooting, using the default carrier ROM and disabling bloatware and installing needed apps that require root provides a compelling reason to root.
