LG G4 - Your thoughts?

Google changed the guidelines in Lollipop. It's easier to use an SD card now, apparently.

What SD card changes did they make to make it easier on Lollipop? And what can you generally use the SD card for these days? I know that it's a hill many fellow Android users will live and die on, but I've never fully understood why. However, that's probably because I'm coming from a Galaxy S III, and it was not the easiest or most agreeable device to use the SD card with. I am totally ready for a new device and the G4 looks excellent to me, though just about any new phone will be a massive jump from what I'm using now.

I use my SD card to DL and listen to various DJ mixes from around the world. I currently carry 45gigs worth on my 64 gig card. Been doing this since my Galaxy 1 (Epic 4G) and SG3 without any issues. Now, if you were using your sd card and storing apps/app data, well then that may of been your problem.

I'm really excited about the G4. To be honest, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the leaks, but after the reveal, I'm really liking what I'm seeing.

Looks to have a great screen and camera, nice sized battery, from every hands on video I've seen the phone looks super snappy and fast all throughout the UI. Nothing I can really point to and say 'oh I wish it had...'. Just looks like a really solid phone overall.

Here's hoping the battery life is good in real-world usage. If I read that the battery life is pretty good, then I'll I'll sell my Galaxy S6 and jump on it.

It's really impressed me.

I loved my G2 but only like my G3 so I am so sure that the G4 will offer enough of an improvement for me to pick one up. I've been looking seriously at the Nexus 6 so I'd love to see one of those quick comparisons that AC has been doing for other flagship devices.

I understand the screen is supposedly a bit better on the G4 but I wonder if the difference is noticeable. The Iphone 6 is only 720p and still looks good. The G3 was already at 2k resolution.

I think the display and camera make it a significant upgrade from G3. The G4 display is supposed to be more efficient and brighter while also improving contrast and color accuracy. The camera is also supposed to be very impressive. IMO, it looks like a bigger upgrade than G2 to G3 if the G4 battery life is better than G3.

Like Samsung I wanted LG to change things up. I wanted aluminum body but LG with the G3 last year has really improved especially squeezing that display in that slim body.

The UI also has improved and like that they borrowed some from Samsung like the Multi Windows.

I like that they kept the microSD slot and removable battery. With that said, at presumably the same price point, I think that the s6 is a better device for me. But I will have to wait until I get one in my hands before passing final judgement.

When KitKat came out, Google changed the guidelines for microSD cards that didn't make it impossible but, AFAIK, more difficult for apps to write to it.

It's worth noting that microSD cards have lower read/write performance than flash storage, and especially slower compared to the Galaxy S6's super-fast flash+SSD hybrid storage. But all these mainly affect app performance. For videos, images, music and whatnot, these make minimal difference and I would honestly want more space that's slightly slower compared to less space that's slightly faster.

They changed it again in Lollipop so that it's easier.

Its not just the resolution that makes a display. The G4 screen is much brighter has a 50% increase and contrast and is more accurate. And also it probably doesn't have the horrid oversharpening effect that the G3s screen had.

Dig it. I do wish they'd put the larger processor in it, but I think it's looks like a great device and a good update to the G3.

On a lg g2 right now. Unfortunate that phones are so large now. But I like what the g4 has to offer. I'll have to see at the store whether the size is going to bother me. Camera is great. Battery capacity looks good. In years past everyone said android cameras were subpar. Now the s6 and g4 have great cameras. This year the emphasis is on big industrial design changes. No one is giving lg credit for pushing the curved design element. Lg decided to focus on the little things, I'm impressed they resisted making the g4 "super thin." it's getting ridiculous. If Samsung had made the s6 thicker the camera would not bulge as much and there would have been all day battery life. With the g4 quick charge 2.0 would have been nice but I guess I'll forego that for the awesome camera. I hope we in the US can get a wireless charging back without the flip case. I'm pretty excited about getting a g4.

Kudos to LG this year (and last, actually. Enjoyed the G3 for the time I had it). They kept the very things they knew others were ditching in the removable battery and storage. Being able to tout an amazing screen and camera has worked for Samsung for awhile now; LG sees this and went that route this year. Smart move. So many times now we have a decision to make with our phones and the compromise tends to be the camera (Moto X, Nexus 5/6, HTC anything, etc), but LG made a great decision in making an excellent camera package. I'm not sold on their ability to match Samsung or Apple on post-processing, but either way this is still going to be a solid camera.

Some people may be a little down on their chipset choice, but it was the best move at this point. The 808 should be enough to push those pixels for a smooth experience. I'm really happy for LG. They easily made a better device than the M9 and it's got a few features that can sway some people from the S6.

Post processing is just software. Easy to improve.

Disappointed in the rear firing speaker, they don't make sense and with more going to front/bottom there's no excuse IMO. I think the rear buttons make total sense to me, never liked side buttons at all, so that factor is a big one. The phone is big, my phones live in my pocket so size is the first consideration, but I'm keeping an open mind until the reviews start coming in. Sammy's battery drain problems are concerning to me, and the fact that they're not jumping on this issue quickly is another one so another nudge to the G4 side.

Why? I am struggling with this decision and since I have the Z3, I don't NEED to update but with the Sony bungling of Lollipop (still waiting but not sure if I even want it), I don't trust Sony anymore, so your thoughts on why the S6 over the G4 would be appreciated.

The physical home button and fingerprint scanner. I am not a fan of the back buttons, or on screen keys.I like to be able to unlock the screen securely and without having to swipe. The 64/128gb internal memory option is nice,internal memory is much more reliable and faster than sd card. The s6 also supports quick charge. The rear speaker will provide be muffled like on my note 4 when used on my desk. Being able to open the camera by double pressing the home button. I know that the g4 supports double pressing the volume button... But I think home button would be easier to find in pocket.

Wouldn't the curved shape help prevent issues with the speaker?

Thanks. That all makes sense. Frankly, I'd probably have an S6 right now if they hadn't gimped the battery. Going from 18 to 20 hours on my Z3 to 9 hours on an S6 is tough, even with the quick charge and wireless charging. Ugh. Why can't there be a perfect phone?
