Android Central Question

"Moisture detected in USB port" message keeps popping up and it won't let me charge my Lg G6.

I assume you have tried multiple cables. If you do not have another one on hand to try, it's always good to have a spare!

If the problem is not your cable: clean out the port very well. Use a light and magnifier to make sure you get any visible debris. Then use a paper towel saturated with rubbing alcohol and some kind of thin non-metal tool to wipe the contacts on both sides of the connector.

If that doesn't do it, turn off the phone, remove your sim tray, and put the phone in a warm spot for a few hours.

If it still won't work, go to Home Depot or Amazon and get some CRC 2-26 and wipe down the insides of the port with it (don't saturate it).

If it still doesn't work and you are under warranty or the second year promise, use it.

Otherwise you'll probably need to find someplace to replace the USB port.

Be really, really thorough on your cleaning. When this happened to me, I cleaned it several times - I THOUGHT I had done a good job - but nothing helped. I was ready to send it in, but the CRC 2-26 did the trick and it's been fine for a couple months now.

I had the same issue a few months ago. My phone was never near water yet I still got this message. I ended up having to send it to the LG repair facility to be fixed under warranty.

Welcome to Android Central! Any update on your situation, OP?

Heres what I found to disable the moisture detection:

*#546368#*871#

NOTE: Replace 871 above with your model number.

Select SVC Menu
Select Moisture Detection Setting
Choose Disable

Restart phone

This hack only disables it while powered up. If u try to plug in while phone is powered down, I still get the detection error.

For me, I found the only fix was to have LG replace the USB port on my phone. After they did that, I haven't had any moisture warning issues (knock on wood!).

My son's G6 had this issue, having it replaced through the 2nd year warranty. Biggest hassle was getting it actually approved, it's not handled directly by LG. Still waiting for label to send it in.

My wife's g6 seems to go through bouts of "moisture in usb port" every other month or so. We use a QI charger to charge it up when it happens. The problem usually goes away for a long time (months) and then comes back for a day or 2 at a time. bizarre.
