LG Nexus 5 Specs: Snapdragon 808, 5.2 1080p, 3GB RAM, 2700mah battery

Sony Xperia Z5 announced: 5.2", 1080p, 2900mAh battery and only 7.3mm thin (Nexus 5 rumoured to be larger in all dimensions so maybe larger battery)! Maybe an alternative if price isn't the most important factor. It's on my list but not so keen on the glass back.

The Xperia Z5 Compact looks amazing. But then you see the price: £549. Five hundred and forty nine. Damn. That's costly. £599 for regular version.

Edit: found a much cheaper 3rd party retailer. Tempted now! :)

32gb is not acceptable in 2015 to be the largest capacity available. I hope the rumors are false, because otherwise I can't even consider it. I struggle to keep my 32gb Moto x from being full, and I'm not going through this again.

Or, maybe you should not be as big of a hoarder?

I'm starting to resent the physical size of my new Moto X Play. It's not fitting as comfortably in my pockets as my previous Nexus 5 (no I don't wear skinny jeans, I'm just a midget man so have small pockets). Granted, that's because it has a protective sleeve, but so did my Nexus 5. Despite it being the smallest 5.5" device out there, I find myself really wanting a smaller phone already. I miss the 5" of my Nexus 5.

I'm having second thoughts about the new LG Nexus. The rumoured dimensions aren't a whole lot smaller than the Moto X Play. In fact, they're almost identical. This is a major issue for me.

I'm becoming ever more tempted by the Xperia Z5 Compact. It's the only new phone that has better specifications than the Nexus 5, without being physically larger.

Hoping and praying for the camera to take good low light shots and a strong signal cellular radio. If this has both of those, then it should tick all my boxes well enough assuming no production defects show up

Lol yeah I can already see the light bleed threads... o.O

I have a feeling it's gonna be another year, another mediocre camera. It's ok though, I've accepted the fact that the Nexus will never get the best camera hardware/software combo like the S6, iPhone, or even G4.

I'm interested in this device but only if it is going to have an oled display, does anyone think that it is going to be oled?

Why would Google regress to 720p displays when their last two Nexus iterations had 1080p and 1440p displays?

3600 mAh battery on a 4.7 inch phone sounds like an impossible dream. That concept phone of yours will have to be very thick to accommodate such a battery for its size. Even then I don't see how they would pull it off.

And they're obviously going to put the latest Android version on the Nexus device. Come on, now. They are trying to fight fragmentation, not trying to aid it.

The Droid Turbo had a 3900 mah with a 5.2 screen. Feels sturdy, not too thick. I'd love it if we could get a Turbo with a 4.7 inch screen. I am not a huge fan of all of these big screens.

After spending some time with the Moto X Play I've decided that anything over 5" is a little too large for my liking. I've opted to go for a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact instead of the new Nexus, as the leaked dimensions place it very close in size to the Moto X Play (due to apparently having larger bezels).

I also don't want a large phone. My OnePlus One has convinced me that anything over 5" is just too big for my hand. I'm tempted by the Nexus 5 2015 yes, but I'm going to most likely upgrade to a downgrade and get the 2/16 Moto G. SD support is important to me.

I like the specs honestly. I subscribe to google play music so I don't use a lot of space on my phone for music. Everything I have is on the cloud so I never really get past using more than 16gb on my phone. I was concerned for the battery life until I heard that it's probably going to be a 1080p display. That's great as far as battery life is concerned. As long as it's 1080p I'm fine. I don't need 2K since I don't really see the difference unless I have super amazing pics on my phone or plan to look at it extremely closely. I heard the price is $400 for the base model and $450 for the 32gb. It's almost too expensive but not unbuyable. The 808 chip performs just as well under normal conditions as the 810 and is actually more efficient so that's not a concern for me. To be honest, I don't there's too much wrong with the new nexus and I'm personally excited about it.

I'm slightly disappointed in the 32GB maximum memory for the Nexus 5 2015 and no SD card slot. I honestly don't care too much about the camera, I'm okay with my current Nexus 4's camera. Very excited for the roll out and reviews. My nexus 4 has been having too many sleeps of death and the GPS doesn't work... so I'm limping on this phone until I can find a replacement. Hopefully price won't be too high.

It seems that you are wrong. Accordding to the review of Anandtech, the display of the G4 uses a lot less power than the one of the G3.
Oh, Anandtech says it uses less power? There you go then. Problem solved. I'm sure you will never have a low battery and will get 7 hours screen time. So no worries.

Ok, you have tricked me into providing more evidence for my point. I thought we were just going to end this on our mutual respect and admiration for Bo. Take a look at this screenshot and run a calculation on how much Doze will save you.

All Doze will do is make that flat part of the line a little flatter. How much extra time you think that'll get you? Hmm, from what I see, it's when the screen is on and the phone is active that the battery is dropping, not when it is off. And telling me the screen will be a little more efficient makes me laugh.

I wish you were wrong.. But I agree

I agree with you, that Doze won't be a game changer... and I will be surprised if it changes something for power users in fact.

But, that was not my point.

My point was that display power consumption has dicrease significantly this year for LG.
The display of the LG G4 is not "a little more efficient" than the G3's display but a lot more.
At 200nits, G4's display consumes 855mW. The G3's display consumes 65% more at the same brightness level !!!! (1415mW).

AMOLED has also make some significant progresses on display power efficiency during the last two year (21% more power efficient since the Note 4's display which was already the most power efficient smartphone's display of its time).

But again I agree with you that it won't matter much if it's coupled to a SoC that seems to consume a lot more than its predecessor.
