OK, I purchased an LG Optimus S from Dillions (Kroger) through iwireless. It runs off of the Sprint network towers. It even says Sprint on the phone.

Android Versions 2.2.2
Baseband Version LS670MVD_60401001
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9/lg@androidbuild#2
Build Number ZVD.41B2924E
SW Version LS670ZVD

Now what I need to know if anyone can tell me ... in order to root/update this phone. Would I and or do I use the instructions that apply for Sprint? Or would/will I need something that deals with iwireless specificly?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I'm guessing nobody has replied because nobody knows lol. I personally have never heard of iWireless but judging from the build of your phone I see no reason why the Sprint method would not work. I will say that there are a few different versions of the Optimus and those versions definitely root via different methods. I tried using the gingerbreak method on a friends Optimus M which is Metro PCS and all it does is try forever and do nothing. I even installed a gingerbreak apk and tried that and it just did nothing as well.....so my point is that if it isn't going to work I don't think it will break your phone but be aware that I have absolutely no idea if that is true or not lol....just speculating.

Edit: Oh and you should probably look for the thread on rooting ZVD and just use that method because the ZVH method means you would have to upgrade the OS which I wouldn't suggest since I have no idea what the repercussions on your phone/network would be. Put link below. Notice at the very top of that thread there is an option for a one click utility however I would suggest doing the long method just so u get familiar with this stuff.

Iwireless (iwirelesshome.com) looks to be an MVNO of Sprint and i think just like Boost they use the same exact phones.

I would try the exact process. The user manual is the same and i doubt they changed anything software wise.

Of course this is your call. Backups of your data are always a good idea.

For future reference, the ZVH rooting thread has links to rooting methods for ZVC/ZVD (GingerBreak and GingerSnap) and ZV8/ZV9 (z4root) so you don't need to really look that hard :)

iwireless is cincinnati bell and before you do anything go into cmda workshop and copy "EVERYTHING" because i know for a fact that cincinnati bell/ iwireless only uses sim card phone so if you have a optimus s that means it is specially programed, just a fyi. but after that i would use genger break to root the phone also please let me or us know what all the setting on cmda workshop is except personal info like telephone number so i can try and flash mine to iwireless. im in colrain fyi

Cincinnati Bell is GSM but you are thinking of the iwireless that is affiliated with Tmobile and CB. The Iwireless the OP means is CDMA.("All i-wireless plans come with free incoming text messages, long distance at no extra charge, and exceptional nationwide digital coverage on the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network" - iwirelesshome.com)

I have the same Optimus S from iWireless and used the Gingerbreak. It worked fine for me. I upgraded to the ZVH and am using gROM atm.

This may be a little late but you will root it the same as a sprint phone (I am a iwireless employee). I have a lg optimus also that is rooted no probs. Also have a rooted evo shift. Don't use gingerbreak as iwireless optimus is running 2.2.
