LG Optimus S (LS670) Maintenance Release 2/7/11

So how do OTA updates work on the Optimus.

Do they get pushed out with some asynchronous notification or does the phone periodically poll the update server and pull if something is available.

Is it based on MEID or does an update inquiry include the current OS version which the update server uses to figure out if something newer is available.

I remember people got annoyed at Slingbox firmware updates that broke their perfectly working devices so they started editing firmware version strings to trick the system into thinking there were no newer updates available.

Google handles it apparently.

Ya'll just need updated build.prop

Also, funny they didn't mention the stock update enabled official jit support

Just checked the system updates on my phone and it say its up to date. I know its not because I'm still running LS670ZV9. Is this being rolled out in stages? I would really like to OTA it to see if the SD card bug really gets fixed.

***Do not attempt the following, unless you have the stock recovery on your phone.***

You can make it manually do this, by using the LG Mobile Support Tool, by following this link.

Just got a System Update

Just about 10 minutes ago, Sprint downloaded a "system update" to my phone. There was no explanation about the update other than "corrects some issues..." or something like that. Gave me the option to cancel or install later.

It took a few minutes to go through the process: Rebooted, installed, then after a few moments rebooted and the phone is now back live.

Here are the info in About Phone:

Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband version: LS670MVC_60401001
Kernel: 2.6.329
Build: ZVC

Then it looked for a firmware update (twice) and found none.
Then it updated the PRL

Nothing seems to have been disturbed, like home screens, themes, etc.

I don't believe this is related to the VoiceMail upgrade deal, at least as far as I can tell.

Just passing it along.

My wife's Optimus updated yesterday.
I am still waiting on mine.
I feel so unloved. :'(

Mav.

So you're saying that the Sprint maintenance update enables jit on the Optimus S?

If so I wonder why that isn't being talked about more around here?

Maybe because most are on custom Roms that have it enabled already. I wonder if they did anything with StageFright to fix the green YouTube? I need to have it enabled to use Shoutcast streaming.

What and how does enabling the JIT (compiler?) impact the Optimus S experience? I understand this is 'under-the-hood' stuff but what does it actually do? Better performance in some areas?

Thanks,
Chum

Just curious.. im running tr 1.5 with problems and wanna keep it that way..but this silly update wont leave me alone.. any ideas on how to keep it from piping up every so often?

Go to the Lego thread and read the last page or so of posts. There is a fix to the nag by Zefie with some new build.prop files. Just a fix to the nags, not an install of any part of the OTA upgrade (which you want to steer clear of.)

I knew I should have waited until this morning to update...

I have gotten the notification for update. I am on stock ROM but ROOTED with z4root.

I really want to try the performance difference with JIT enablement but also wan to root once the update is complete.

I read that z4root dosent work after the update. Is there anyway to root it after the update?

Also is it a good idea to unroot the phone and then proceed with the update ?

If you accept the OTA under any circumstance it's...

"NO ROOT FOR YOU!"

Thanks...one more question....
If i use z4root to unroot and then use LG Updater mentioned in zefies guide (very end..v9 to vc).....and then follow re-root guide for vc...then will it work?

I have rooted my phone using z4 root.

There's another thread here...

You can get root again... though it requires a little more effort than the z4root apk... (check out the other thread)...

Really, it's not that hard once you have some good instructions (thanks to Zefie who figured it out... and drewwalton19216801 who created this handy guide.

Though... I changed "RageAgainstTheCage" to "rage" for short (no significance to the name) and it's less to type... ;)

i'm just waiting on it to incorporated to a rom, then i'll get it that way. and i'm in no hurry.

The challenge is this...

The new rom includes a baseband update... at this point, the only way I know to update the baseband on this phone is to go through the "real" update process...

However, the notes related to the update doesn't directly identify what this happy new baseband actually does for you...

(The baseband is the subsystem of the phone that controls radio communications. It's a chipset on the phone that directly controls cellular hardware and communications with cell towers.)

(no, I didn't know that but you can find nearly anything with Google)
