LG V10 Crack Glass after 14 days. Anyone else?

This hair line fracture issue happen to me today. Phone was on my desk and was looking at it with no issue one moment and the next minute i thought i saw a scratch but turn on to be an small fracture. yeah it looks like a scratch but when i feel it, you can feel the crack. crack to thin to get a good photo. I had to go through LG to get and RMA. Haven't sent it in yet, but in the process. Worst part is Tmobile is not much help and the phone is only twenty days from purchase date. They say I gotta go through insurance claim. Thought i share since in case any one else has this happen to them too. Will update later time with good or bad news from LG.

Update!

After sending my phone in, LG repairs it and sends it back. However the repairs they did was not what I sent it in for. They repaired the speakers and had no notes of even looking at my display. After I received it back I reached back out to customer support, voice my frustrations and concerns, but all they could do was reissue another RA# for me to send it back in for repairs. After sending it back in for repairs, I get notice that its been repaired and on its way back again, but no notes on what has been repaired. So I reached back out to customer support again to get the notes they have from repair facility. What was repaired is the back cover, lower cover, top cover and front cover has been repaired. That's the notes they had and I think that's pretty poor documentations but I hope that means they repair my display. Its currently on its way back from LG repair facility and hopefully its been fix. I'll update again once I get phone back.

For those of you that is having same issue, good luck with your repair journey. Hopefully you don't have to go through what I went through.

Did they fix your screen?

My two cents here: I don't think that a phone being built to sub-standard tolerances (glass too wide, or frame too narrow) qualifies as nullifying claims to durability.

In case you all forgot, it's winter. You walk outside and it's 15 degrees, then walk inside where it's 70, plus it's against your 98.6 degree leg, then you get it out and play Angry Birds for an hour and the phone heats to 110 degrees, and the screen is glass, and the frame is Stainless Steel, so there's a lot going on. All the materials have different coefficients of thermal expansion, and if one thing expands one way and another thing flexes another and then you sit down in your desk chair and put a bit of stress on the frame...BOOM crack.

That all being said, there IS a legitimacy to their durability claim. I bet their tests were done in a controlled lab environment. BUT, that's the spec. I don't think I've heard LG claim anything further than that this phone passed that test. Anything outside of that is just unfortunate.

Taking a look at my V10 sitting here, I notice that there is absolutely no room between the side of the screen and the SS frame. Temperature change alone is enough to make the screen/frame expand/contract enough to squeeze the glass. I think from now on, I'll be taking care not to do anything crazy with my phone (toss it on the counter, squeeze it into my jean pocket) when I'm at a temperature extreme, this way I won't have to go through what the people in this thread have described.

I stupidly put the phone in my hoodie pocket before I got out of the car yesterday. It fell out of the pocket as I was getting out of the car, and the phone landed on the bottom right corner. Hairline crack from the corner to mid way up the left side. I wasn't going to get a case, but I am now. My replacement from Asurion arrives today.
Side note:
My return date with VZW ends Friday. Can I return an Asurion replaced device?

Got my phone back yesterday and it's been fix.

Good luck to anyone else who had this issue.

I am worried about the screen randomly cracking. I emailed lg about it and have received no response. I am not sure at all now about the phone. Any input would be great.

LG will respond that there is not problem.. There aren't a lot of people on this thread that have experienced a problem so if you feel lucky...

It is really quite frightening.. is it advisable then for someone thinking about getting the phone to take out an insurance for it?

That is up to you. I do not keep insurance on any of my phones bc I feel it's a waste and I've had htc who took care of any issues for a year. I'm not sure I even want the phone at this point. I am trying to reach out to LG but no response.

Yea, that makes sense.. On the other hand, I haven't had much luck finding a phone that doesn't have any major issues. People tend to come online to talk about their problems with a device, so it seems like that there isn't a safe option out there.. There is always some degree of risk involved.. But I dunno.. I really hope you find a device that you like and that will work well for you!

Thanks! I have had the HTC one m8 since it came out for the reason I could not find another one I liked at all. Now it's been buggy even with a factory reset. I was trying to wait until March for the rumored htc M10, but I don't think it will last. I ordered the V10 already, before I saw the glass Crack issues. Now just debating on sending it back and taking my chances with the current phone for a month. Hopefully you will like the phone and no issues if you choose it. I'm going to research a little more and see if it's able to be replaced for free and easy, since it's not the owners fault.

I don't think the glass crack is so wide spread. I do believe it happened though. I think there was a bad batch of defective units perhaps. I wouldn't worry about it. If your always worried about issues you won't get anything. Everything sold has defective issues.

Best of luck in your adventure. Hope everything works out.

Thanks. That is true, but it's still a little bothersome to think it could happen. I always use a sturdy case with tempered glass, so I try to protect my phones. Hopefully it will not be one of my phones that happens to!

I am like that too; I am also kinda looking for that phone that will be just right for me. I really hope things will work out for you! If you end up keeping the V10, it would be really interesting to know your thoughts on it and your experiences with it :)

That is a very soothing post.. I really hope you're right.. Thanks!

LG V10 is defiantly not Mel-Spec. This is my First LG phone after ONLY using Motorola for 12 yrs, because they are great durable and reliable phones, as well as having excellent customer service. My V10 is 2 months old and like everyone here, it also cracked on its own. Mine cracked on the lower left corner and had a few hair line cracks. I NEVER dropped the phone or hit it against anything, it was in a gel case and in my phone case on my hip. I looked up the issue and this this is how I learned from all of you that I’m not the only one and LG defiantly has an issue with the V10 and does not want to take responsibility for it. I hate the fact that when you call LG is routes you to the Philippians and they are NO help whatsoever. The reps will repeat the same thing over and over no matter what you tell them. There has to be a way to talk to someone in the United States that can look into this issue and help us out.
I sent the phone in with a letter to explain what happened and a week later they send me an email saying they don’t cover cracked damaged phone and I have to pay to fix it. I paid the $150 to fix it because I need my phone back a.s.a.p. but will proceed on finding a way to get that money back. I need all of you to post videos on YouTube and post on social media to get others NOT TO BUY the V10. We need to get LG attention so that they can take responsibility on their product that they claim is durable and Mel-Spec. I will post on YouTube once I get mine back from LG and then getting rid of it and getting a Samsung. NEVER again will I buy an LG product.

Im also going to make a complain on the BBB, hope you guys do as well..

try explaining that to LG.. They are worthless and dont care.. I talked to 5 (FIVE) people from LG that this is an issue and all they said sorry, damage i not covered and you have to pay

Sorry, the former Engineering Spec-***** in me wants to correct this...MIL-Spec.

Now that that's out of the way, can you post a picture of the crack?

Same Issue.. Mine has a gel case and was in my case and it cracked. It has no sign of damage due to being hit or dropped. I was using the phone and it was fine and about 10 mins later I got a call and when I looked at the phone i noticed a few lines so i cleaned it off and thats when i seen that crack on lower left corner and the hair line cracks all on the side. Def not a Mel-Spec phone what it brakes while in a pouch..

That is unfortunate. I just got this phone bc my HTC was older and starting to have issues with hardware and software. I agree LG will not take responsibility, but I am like you, I will be persistent if my phone just happens to break due to their build. I am extremely worried about this issue. I wish you luck as well.
