LG V30 Battery Life

My battery has been very good, here are some screen shots over the weekend. I was home, wifi on entire time, not a great cell area so wifi calling was used. No bluetooth or any casting. I just talked to LG about the phone idle and they said it's normal, not sure if I believe 35 percent of battery is normal when my Pixel XL is 7 for same time period. I do love this phone and if this idle was like my Pixel it would last easily a few days. Maybe I'm just expecting too much. Over the weekend I got 6.5 hours of screen time with 5 hours playing Angry birds Evolution over a 27 hours period with 10% battery remaining.
So far this morning 4.5 hours screen time almost 4 hours Angry Birds Evolution in the past 23.5 hours with 33% battery remaining.

I can't get over the battery life. I've never had a phone come anywhere close to this. If I could stop playing the stupid Angry birds game, I'd get 2 days easy. I've never gotten more than 4 hours screen time with any phone I've had.

Sad to see in the above screen shots Phone Idle still sucking up a huge percentage of the battery. They apparently have no intention of correcting this defect that has plagued the V10, V20 and G6. The same activity on my wife and sons S8 uses 20% as much for the same period of time. Good bye LG.

The huge phone idle problem on this phone has me questioning whether to keep this V30 or return it and go back to my S8. Judging from the above comment this is typical for LG but I find it unacceptable. This is my first LG and I'm really happy with it in all other ways but the idle drain is pushing my limit of what I can live with. I've got a couple of days to come to a decision

So...you both are upset over a percentage of phone idle usage when people are reporting 6+ hours SOT and 20+ up hours of up time? Sounds valid.

My idle drainage is nothing. My phone has been off that charger for 90 minutes, and I'm at 97%. But fine, keep complaining about arbitrary percentages.

I am shocked how good the battery life is on this phone! Best of any phone I have used. I am not a power user by any means, but went to bed last night with over 50% battery left after 11 hours off the charger. I came from the V20 and could get through the day sometimes, but with rarely more than 15% charge. I am also impressed how this phone sips power when screen is off. I am very pleased so far and wireless charging is the icing on the cake for me!

It's the processor and the screen. Imagine even how much more life you could be crowing over IF phone idle wasn't sucking all the mAh out of the phone. Yes it has better life than its predecessors, but continues the fine tradition of wasting potential battery life where others don't.

How? So far, from what I've seen, the V30 has bested or matched the top competitors out there. I fail to see an actual issue with the battery performance.

Are you getting a lot of SOT? If i'm getting great battery life (6hrs SOT) with heavy use throughout the day, I don't get the issue if idle time ranks high if its countered by great life elsewhere.

I agree. I don't get the concern here either...the potential display issues with this phone has me having 2nd thoughts, but the incredible battery life this thing seems to have is at the bottom of the concern list.

Fussing over idle drain when at the end of the day you are still doing better than most phones seems oddly critical.

Would these guys be happier if at the end of the day they were getting 4hrs SOT and 10% battery left with very low idle drain, compared to 6hrs SOT and 20% left over with high idle drain? Throw out a $1 million ticket because you didn't get the potential $5 million draw?

I don't get it.

They pretty much all waste battery somewhere. On the S7 Edge, the highest item was frequently android system and android OS. Even if I took it off the charger and let it sit there for a couple of hours untouched, it would frequently drain 2% an hour. Maybe Samsung thought it would be more palatable to put that use under android system/OS as opposed to idle. Overnight my battery would drain a minimum of 1% - 1.5% an hour, usually higher. Last night the V30 lost 2% over 7 hours. I am pleased as it is at 75% - 100% improvement over the S7 Edge.

I think you're missing the point. Everyone is saying how great the battery is. (Me included) If the phone idle was at 60% and you still got 2 days of battery life vs if it was at 5% and you got one day of life, which would you prefer?

Randy Ohio and Racedog don't seem to think that, as both are posting like the idle time is ruining battery life. More than likely burned by previous devices and trying to spread rumors about the V30 based on false observation.

Ive been looking to find if there is an explanation for the high idle usage. I found a signal mapping app that I removed and the idle phone battery use has gone down.

Good usage requires a decent sot along with good idle time in order to maximize the ability to use the phone most efficiently. Great sot without good idle time or vice versa limits the phones extended usability.

I'm neither a Samsung nor an LG "fanboy". My decisions on which phone I use is based on my particular needs and usage so what others think makes not a wit of difference to me. My previous post was made for information not as a dig at any product or brand.

I bought two V30's and its likely I'm going to keep them but is not a guarantee.

Battery drain overnight (between midnight and 7am) was 8%, with AOD off between 1:30a and 4:30am. Nothing else off.

Seems pretty reasonable to me.

I've had a load of different phones, sometimes I find the phones are optimized well from factory and someone's they are not. If not, then you have to go through the general Andriod and or device specific micromanaging procedures for fine-tuning idle/standby perfomance. After fine-tuning using things like greenify, changing location and mobile data/wifi settings you can generally get better idle perfomance. But I agree with frustrated customers this site be standard.

Yeah, no problem with this at all.

I haven't bothered with greenify like I had to on the S7 Edge. getting 6-7 hours screen time vs. 3-4 on the S7.

I thought I would share my experience with the V30 regarding the battery and in general. The truth is the phone idle battery drain is real and is an issue. It is true that SOT on the phone is pretty good as others have mentioned but the phone idle will eat up a lot of battery before you get to even use the phone. Sure if you wake up in the morning and use the phone for 6+ hours heavy you can do that but try using that 12 hours later.

I would charge up the phone in the morning and go to work with about an hour and a half of SOT through the work day and get home (5pm) with 35%.

The odd part is its like a race against phone idle drain. If you use the phone the battery is great but when it's in your pocket it's draining for no reason.

I turned off AOD and used auto brightness. A few basic apps installed.

I ended up trading the phone in for an S8+ and have no regrets. I really wanted to like the V30 because of the quad dac and wide screen can but what good is all that if the phone will sit on a charger all day. How good will the battery be in a year or 2?

Having used both phones the S8+ display and battery is way better and I personally like the Samsung software a lot better as well.

My 2 cents.
