LG V30 Battery Life

I thought I would share my experience with the V30 regarding the battery and in general. The truth is the phone idle battery drain is real and is an issue. It is true that SOT on the phone is pretty good as others have mentioned but the phone idle will eat up a lot of battery before you get to even use the phone. Sure if you wake up in the morning and use the phone for 6+ hours heavy you can do that but try using that 12 hours later.

I would charge up the phone in the morning and go to work with about an hour and a half of SOT through the work day and get home (5pm) with 35%.

The odd part is its like a race against phone idle drain. If you use the phone the battery is great but when it's in your pocket it's draining for no reason.

I turned off AOD and used auto brightness. A few basic apps installed.

I ended up trading the phone in for an S8+ and have no regrets. I really wanted to like the V30 because of the quad dac and wide screen can but what good is all that if the phone will sit on a charger all day. How good will the battery be in a year or 2?

Having used both phones the S8+ display and battery is way better and I personally like the Samsung software a lot better as well.

My 2 cents.

Your first post here is to trash the battery life of a phone that others (including myself) have shown is above par, while claiming an anecdotal problem as the culprit? Good talk. Doesn't even make sense, as how can SOT be great but battery life be bad? Those two don't go hand-in-hand.

I am getting 6+ hours of SOT and, at least, 24 hours of battery life, and that's only getting down to 20-30% left. Many others have shared this type of exceptional performance. So how can idle drain be a problem?

To come in, anecdotally say that the battery life sucks and the other phone you bought is excellent (when all reports seem to show otherwise), seems a bit questionable.

I am merely stating my personal experience with the phone. I could care less what "facts" you present me with when the phone is eating battery up during idle just as fast as if I had the screen on.

As I said, the screen on time appears to be great but my experience with walking around with the phone in my pocket is that I can't use the SOT if the phone is draining battery while idling and the battery management reflects/supports this in that phone idle was my biggest battery drain through a single charge.

Truth be told the s8+ is not much better not worse with regular use but my biggest gripe about the v30 is that if I charge up a phone to full and leave it at home for the day as an example I expect to find very little battery drain. With the V30 that was not the case. I wish I tried that to see what it would be but I suspect is lose about 30% in a 12 hour period.

Share your experience fine, but stating something like idle battery drain "is real and is an issue" sounds more like a declarative statement that goes against the general consensus.

On idle (with AOD on) my V30 loses about 1-2% per hour, which is expected. If your V30 was worse, it sounds like you either had weak signals, left certain services on (WiFi, location) that were draining battery, had some background processes sucking battery life, or got a defective unit. Sucks that it happened, but, again, your experience is not typical.

With light to moderate use I can make it 2+ days. I charge my phone before i go to bed. Idle time from 100% when i go to sleep to the time I wake up (approx 8hrs) I have about 92%-93% left. I run white noise for an hour (helps me sleep) and wifi and location is off. I also run smart cleaner optimizer once a day....only takes 10 secs.....i think that helps with battery life. Very impressed with battery life so far. On par with my s7 active when it was new. After a year + with my active my battery life got alot worse. Hope this helps.

Good to see good battery life on V30... Waiting for it to launch in India soo I can have a look at it decide if I should replace my G6 with V30

Could it be something with how your V30 was set up? Mine only lost 3% last night over 7 hours. The best thing about this phone has been when I leave the phone alone if barely uses any battery. I never had that with my S7 Edge. That thing would eat 1.5%-2% an hour sitting idle.

It was definitely an issue with his handset, which he falsely chalked up to a widespread issue and got a different phone. Just hope the actual battery issues with the 8 don't creep in.

Idle performance is stellar on my handset. Lighter usage days, and could easily roll into 48+ hours without dropping below 10%.

Not doing anything really special. Admittedly, I do not have FB activated on the phone. Otherwise, spending a good chunk of time on solid WiFi. That's about it.

battery life on the V30 is excellent, I'm a heavy user and I mean heavy and I'm absolutely pleased.

Not sure how I managed 13 hours 28 minutes of on screen time. I wasn't using data nor battery saver.
