Should the next LG V30 feature a removable battery?

Re: New V30 render... Might not get it. What do you think?

That's very different from saying that the phone restores itself. Using a 3rd party launcher is not something that everyone does. With my SD card, I can back up homescreen and settings. Can't do that from the cloud if you don't want to use a 3rd.party app.

Not really. All the apps download and I just restore it with the 3rd party app. Yes it isn't Apple like fully but it downloading the apps alone is fine.

When I had my Pixel it did it just like Apple. I kept the default launcher and it would reinstall and re-do my home screens.

I don't find migrating from one phone to another that cumbersome....gives me a chance to clean house before I migrate.

I understand, but you said "they set themselves up" which, in point of fact, is not true for most phones. They download your apps, and that is basically all that they do "themselves".

If you see what I quoted though that person said they never download their apps and they have to manually go do everything. Please don't just read my post but rather read the entire thing to see what I was responding to.

I simply was saying I don't have this issue. I always have all apps download -- home screens on the Pixel reset by themselves whereas a Samsung or LG I would use a backup from a launcher and be done.

So my point still stands of

1) Never happened to me where it never downloaded

2) As long as a phone downloads my apps redoing home screens is really easy (either manually or via backup which is a few taps).

Re: The V30 rumoured battery: Disappointment or a non issue?

Probably your right.

I'm not sure who is being asked (what marketing control group) what consumers actually want in a smartphone or even if LG bothers with them, but they aren't asking their core fans that is plainly evident.

Back when the v10 was being leaked there was a real flurry of TV ads that came out in a good number and really got people interested in the v line... Then they just fizzled out.

If LG keeps doing things like this in advertising they will never gain any market share

We can lament the fact that removable batteries are gone till the cows come home and won't change their corporate decisions 1 iota...

It's time to move on to a different phone that gives you the best experience you can get. As much as I like my v20 my u11 is tempering my anger at LG. While my preferences are against glass backs and sealed batteries just like you I've come to terms with them with them and am enjoying the phone more and more everyday. I've stopped worrying about the glass back and am just more mindful on my usage and rouge apps for the battery life.

The v30 users will have to do the same thing.

Mac

The only feature removal I won't cave to is the 3.5 jack and the DAC. I know that a dedicated DAC limits my choices but I can live with that for now. I'm sure that the U11 is a nice option but no jack and no carrier support doesn't work for me. Otherwise I hear some great things about the sound and camera.

YES! I set up most of my phones the same so it's a great time for a fresh new look.

So let me see if I understand what you are saying.... some people, especially normal people are ditching their computers for a phone as a main computer? I never heard that one before and I don't know anyone without a computer.

Typically older folks. Sometimes blue collar workers. My smartphone pretty much does everything a laptop can do from word processing to email. You can wirelessly print now. There's actually free apps on Android. Microsoft/Adobe is going to charge you hundreds of dollars when Android has it free. Screen cast and add a keyboard and you got yourself a computer. (Free apps on Android: push email, Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, etc.)

True, there's apps for most anything, but they often don't hold a candle to their PC counterparts. They may work for the average Joe, but not for people that are doing higher end stuff. For example, Photoshop Express on Android is free and does basic editing ok, but it's not going to give you anywhere near the editing capabilities of full blown Photoshop. So you just have to keep things in the right context for your intended use.

I rarely use my computer nowadays. More often than not, I'm only on it long enough to transfer photos from my DSLR to my phone.

I realize you can do all of those things, however you assume that everybody operates the way you do and call it the norm. Its OK to have an opinion, however you realize that's opinions don't necessarily represent reality or what's normal.

Today's camera can record HD, expect the file size to eat up space ;)

Still doesn't matter to my point that it depends on the user. As stated my dad has 16 GB and has yet to ever fill it up 1 1/2 years later.

It is reality, Sony trashed their Sony Vaio laptop line, Samsung pulled their laptops from Best Buy, Android Tablets are the past.

That doesn't mean people don't use computers....go into Best Buy and you have more computers than cellphones and they have plenty of Samsung computers. In fact I went this past weekend to help someone buy a laptop and the PC section was booming.

Only Samsung laptop I see are the Chromebooks. Other than that, HP and Apple dominates Best Buy. PCs are not as big as they used to be, but still necessary for work/school. After college, my laptop is used for entertainment mostly and light word processing.

You need to go back to Best Buy because your information is incorrect

Note 5 most certainly does not suck. Have you ever used one?

Wasn't really referring to that part, but since you brought it up...
Yes, I have actually used a Note 5. It's a solid phone. It ticked most of the boxes: great display, camera, battery life, feature set, etc. But it was definitely missing something. Just like the S6 was missing something. It was Samsung's first iteration of a new era of Samsung smartphones, and as much as it was a good phone, it's never going to be a classic. Every time I hear someone talk about which Note was the best, I hear Note 4. Every time (with a few exceptions). There's a reason for that. The Note 7 was amazing, but obviously terribly flawed. The Note 5 was imperfect, though.

Re: First look at the V30

It's 18:9 like the G6. Probably more narrow screen so that it's easier to use one handed. Gonna try to copy the S8 Plus. I hope you're okay with black bars on YouTube because that's what you'll see.
I know I'm not.

Re: First look at the V30

I'm not impressed by these new 18.5:9 aspect ratio screens. Just another fake fad, like the square screens from a year ago. Phone is to BIG, tall, like talking into a maxi-pad. This years Samsung collection is off my wish list this year. I still have my Note4, for its screen, and batteries. But I just picked up a Blackberry KEYone, which kicks my Note4 ***, even with its lighter hardware specs. I'm still holding out chance that LG will pull a big one out there butt, and get some Note fans checking them out for a change. We shall see.
