light bleed

Almost every post is “oh it’s no big deal”.
What is it with phone forums where everyone who doesn’t agree 100% with you is a troll? I’ve been a member of these forums for years. I’m also in the process of ordering a Note 9. I just think any kind of defect on a phone that will cost me $1250 plus tax is unacceptable and I’m surprised that others don’t feel the same. If my Note has a light leak, it’s getting returned until I get one that doesn’t.
And that's more than fine. But for others it's not a big deal. I wouldn't like it but if it doesn't bother some that's fine to. It's their money.

FWIW, now that I'm looking at it, my Note 8 has the exact same light bleed on the left side of the glass. Not that it matters to you Note 9 owners, but now I'm noticing it.

Yes.. I've gone through two Note 9's and BOTH have it down the entire left side. T Mobile is making it the biggest pain to get one that isn't defective..

Yes after paying 1300 I wouldn’t accept that either. Will be checking mine when it arrives just before the note 10.

luckily my Indian version note 9 dual sim has zero leak...I tried very hard in the dark to find a leak ...but no luck...
guys if the leak is very prominent..ask for replacement

I'm not sure if mine have, but I'm not going to look at it. My country can't just return the device like US, will need to go through the troublesome warranty process

Agree wholeheartedly with all of this. Bang on.

People don't like to think that their highly expensive toy may not be perfect. Thus anytime someone brings up an issue such as this one, people get defensive.

Anyway I just checked mine and haven't noticed any bleeds. I'm also using a dark theme, so if something was amiss I'd probably notice it.

Anyway that's my phone. I'm sure not every unit sold is perfect so I expect to see posts on issues - real or imagined.

considering Samsung has said that a little light bleed is normal on their curved screen phone for several years now, if it bothers you that much, why do you keep buying the curved screen phones?
Even a minimal case will cover the area. is anyone going naked on a double glass phone?

I’m not a fan of the curved screens, but I like almost everything else about the phone, so that’s why I bought my Note. I guess many others too for the same reason, you weigh the things you like vs the things you don’t in anything you buy and decide.

That being said, Samsung saying a little bleed is normal is the standard cop out answer. Just like if they tell you you’re losing signal because your holding it wrong. In the latter case, if You find a flaw in an Apple device and they are callled out on it, you’ll be hard pressed to find it in their next years phone or they’ll many times make the adjustment quietly and fix them in later batches.

As you said Samsung has used this excuse for years and still no change. We now know it shouldn’t affect the water resistance on phone so it’s only cosmetic. But it is lame these phones are some of the most expensive in the market and they can’t tighten quality control on it. The videos showing the the different colors changing up and down the leak and bleeding thru when scrolling icons I feel something a little over “normal” and shouldn’t have gotten through QC. I could live with it I guess but it would irk me to see when checking my phone in middle of night and having to accept that’s “normal.” A flaw is still a flaw.

I’m happy to say I was lucky and my Note screen has been flawless.

Just got my 128 blue unlocked from Amazon yesterday and no light bleed.

Reading your post, you act as though the phone has major QC issues and is unworthy, yet you end with... "I’m happy to say I was lucky and my Note screen has been flawless."

So what's your complaint?

I think you’re reading too much into my post.

But I think it’s more criticism than a complaint... I in no place have ever said the phone is unworthy... you’re putting words in my mouth. You can look at posts this past year and doubt you’ll find anything close to that kind of criticism.

I’m just saying that for anyone spending close to $1000 for a phone to try to stick you with a cosmetic defect as normal... and it is a cosmetic defect... is BS. if it’s so simple for us here to find by turning off the lights and to be able to see clearly a defect, it wouldn’t be difficult at all i the assembly line to just do a test. And if it’s only found in < 1% then easy to just pull it out of line for QC. Is it any different than finding a flaw in the glass or micro scratch on the frame?

I mentioned I’m happy to say mine is perfect to say that it’s not that uncommon where you can’t get a good phone where the screen that’s fits/glued on just right to counter then ones saying it’s normal and to live with it so don’t just accept that it’s normal. That’s all.

Not sure what I’d do if I did have one... i might just live with it but I know it would irk me. At least it’s not a red tint issue like they had the previous year S8 panels or the battery issue on the Note 7.

That said, I’m happy to say I love my Note 8 and a happy owner.

It is BS that any high value item should come with any defects. Agree 100 percent, but that's why there's a return policy as well as a warranty. However you allege that Samsung has QC issues, and that somehow they're complicit in them. I call foul on that.

But it is lame these phones are some of the most expensive in the market and they can’t tighten quality control on it. The videos showing the the different colors changing up and down the leak and bleeding thru when scrolling icons I feel something a little over “normal” and shouldn’t have gotten through QC.

There's this little thing in production called variation (normal and abnormal). Anyway (in keeping things simple), this phenomena is a part of the production process that causes many a company a small percentage of product defects. It is an area all companies try to control because any defect to products is loss of revenue (and reputation).

In short, this is not intentional QC malfeasance, but simply a by-product of production that sometimes even QC can't catch or the issue didn't show at time of inspection. It happens. Again, thus the return periods and warranties.

Now don't get me wrong, I'd be annoyed too if my expensive item came in less than pristine condition (been there, done that); However, I also understand this happens; that if you sell a million units, a few may be defective (depart from it's target value). I simply return the product for a better working unit. Been there done that.
