How can I set my Note 7 to open links in a text message with the web browser? It by default just opens them in the text messages app, which never opens them correctly.

I found the setting under settings, apps, messages, but it won't let me change it. I can clear all the defaults but it still opens links with the text messaging app instead of the browser.

My phone is set to ask before setting default applications, but for some reason it doesn't ask with this text messaging app when it opens a link. It just immediately tries to open within the text messaging app. Is much rather it try to open it in a web browser.

What happens if you long-press the link instead of tapping it? Is there an option to "Open with"?

This is happening for others too, right? It's not just my device malfunctioning, but it's supposed to be this way?

Can you confirm that this is the stock Messaging app? Or is it a 3rd party one?

Also, when you cleared defaults, did you clear all app defaults, or just for the Messaging app?

Just for the messaging app. But it out them back automatically after I used the messaging app (it's set to ask before setting defaults but it doesn't with the messaging app for some reason).

Mine does the same thing with the stock Samsung app but not the Verizon or Hangouts app. There's nothing you can do about it. I switched to the official Google Messenger app. Works better than the stock app and links open with Chrome.

My Note 7 does the same thing, but I found if you press the three dots up in the right hand side before the options that it will give you the option to open the link in the browser and then ask you which browser you wanted to open it in

On the attached link it states that Android Webview is the issue. Force stop and disable. Load earlier version. Fixes issue. My self and friend tried this and it worked on our S6 & S7 Android 6.0.1.

When you guys say it fixed it, do you mean it opens in your web browser now? Or do you just mean that crappy integrated messages app browser will actually render the page?

To me, it's not fixed until my links open in my default browser.

Did you mean to attach a link, or are you referring the the previous link from Daugherty4innc? I didn't see a link in your post.

Hi, I have a Galaxy Note 5 and I have the same problem but a slightly different screen. This problem only started about 3 weeks ago so I'm not sure if I messed up the settings or what?? But previous if someone sent me a text with a link in it I could touch it and it would instantly open up. Now I have this happening... A black screen with the large X at the top left and the name of the link. If I go to the right and click more, open in browser, it works. But I never had to do that before. Can anyone please help?

I'm using the stock text message app and I don't want to switch to anything else since it's worked fine up until about 3 weeks ago.
