List your EC05 Problems/Praise

I've had a number of lockups with Gmail and the regular mail app, or while using iScore (scoring softball games). Doesn't help that this phone is a refurb I got just before the update came out, so I can't be sure where the problem comes from.

I am very happy with EC05 update.
No problems to this point. The Epic is performing great and the battery life is as good as before if not better. GPS is working great.

contacts and auto suggestion

I've had two issues with Froyo and I know all the smart people here can help me.

- How do you add a contact without going to a computer or SMS? When I am in contacts, you used to be able to hit the menu option and something would come up to add a contact. That seems to be gone.

- How do you get auto correct to work on the slide out keyboard? I have never gotten that to work (even on Eclair) and I have auto suggestion checked on all keyboard options.

Thanks for the help!

to add a contact go into contacts and hit the + sign in the top left hand corner. i'm not too sure about auto correct especially if you already have them checked.

I just checked mine as I have not added a contact since upgrading to froyo EC05 - after hitting the + sign in the top upper left, you can choose between syncing to Phone or Google and choose a default - or leave your choice unchecked and go thru that one step again for every contact added. I choose Google, because then it can always be sync'd back to my Phone if I change or swap phones for whatever reason. Once choosen you won't see that pop up screen anymore.

As far as the auto correct in the keyboard, I don't know as I have always used the Swiftkey keyboard and it's auto correct in both virtual and hardware keyboard has always worked from eclair DI18 to froyo EB13 to froyo EC05. So it just might be a bug in the stock keyboard. BTW prior to Swiftkey I had been using a modded HTC Sense keyboard. I find the stock keyboard very limiting.

Wow, 15 pages, 1000 issues, and no one is having the same as me.... My first minor gripe is that after going from 2.1 to 2.2 ECO5, it lags when "waking up" from pressing the power button. Annoying, but oh well.

Now the MAJOR problem. All ECO5 users beware!! I never liked using market Task Killers, I really liked the Task Manager that was provided with Samsungs TouchWiz. With ECO5, they added a new "RAM Manager" within the original "Task Manager." It has a Level 1 (end inactive applications) and Level 2 (end inactive and background applications) clear option. I decided to check this out, after performing Level 1 clear, it notified me that it closed nothing. (I had nothing running atm) So I tried Level 2 clear, and boom, my phone is broken. Completely unusable and unresponsive to anything I try to do. It just vibrates erratically and pops up a notifiication of TWLauncher being force closed over and over and over again. I cannot perform a factory reset (since the phone doesnt work at all) and pulling the battery has accomplished nothing. Also, cannot do anything with it plugged into my computer. Others have said theyve used the Level 2 clear numerous times with no problems, but they all had previous 2.2 builds, none had tried it with ECO5. So, EVERYONE BEWARE OF THE RAM MANAGER!!!! SPECIFICALLY LEVEL 2!!!! Anyone, Please let me know if you have had this, or know of this happening, thanks. I assume Im going to have to have Sprint store flash it or replace it.

text message window size

y'all were helpful on my previous question... thanks!

Here's another. Is there a a way to make the compose message screen on the text message window bigger? it's tiny!

Overall I agree. This has been the best version of froyo for me out of the 3.

Hey guys, sorry if this has been brought up before. Since getting "EC05" at 2am on 3/25 I cant access my "Gmail acct or even go into Android Market" cause my "Google acct password" is not being recognized. There is an option to "delete the acct" but I'm not sure if there is another way to fix this without having to re-do acct with all my info all over again. Any help appreciated.

Just got the EB13 -> EC05 OTA. First thing I checked was GPS. EB13 seemed a bit quicker at finding the sats, but would never find ANY from my office. I really didn't have any expectation it would be better in EC05 but thought I'd check. WOW! GPS Status app found and locked on 5 sats from my office within 6 seconds. Google Maps locked on my precise location where before (from inside this same office) it would just located in the general vicinity (1000 ft). At least from this quick check, to me it definately seems they must have done something to improve on the GPS.

Just installed EC05, and funny enough but a bunch of apps are now missing. The shortcuts I saved to my homescreens are there, but the apps are no longer installed.

Hmmm...

Edit: Strike that. It just took a few minutes for them to finally show up. All seems good now.

Ok, here goes... i think I am the only Epic owner who's having such a difficult time with Froyo. Eclair..no problem but when I upgrade (whether it be the official Sprint OTA or if I flash Bonzai, ACE, sydicateROM, etc.) the screen response is totally erratic!! It mostly doesn't recognize when I touch the screen, it has random screen touches all over the screen w/out me touching it. I wipe data, cashe and delvik (or whatever its called) and I also dial the ##786# and reset it. I've flashed off my SD and also loaded with Odin3+v1.61. No luck so far. Sometimes its smooth but mostly not. so back to Eclair DI18. any ideas? I'll probably go to Sprint and tell them my screen is messed up.

I had this same thing happen to me. Hit your search eyeglass softkey and search for "settings' go into manage applications, find twlauncher and clear everything and set it back to defaults. That worked for me anyway...

I have noticed that when i am in a browser session and hit home, it takes a few seconds for the home screen icons to appear... probably 4-7 seconds.

Also a little laggy to wake up too...

I am still having the problem where turning on Wi-Fi will not always work and will display "error" after displaying "turning on...". This started with the EB13 otw update.

Otherwise this update looks great. GPS is finally strong and fast!

I dont even mind the new call log that much, though I would like to remove text notifiers. I like the swipe left to message, swipe right to call feature. I guess it satisfies some post-palm pre longing for gestures that I still suffer from.

Benchmarks

With Eclair, I got 950-975, with EB13 I got 1000-1025 and now with EC05 I am down to 925-950, What gives???

Upgrading to EC05 caused my Epic to lose the ability to sync fully with Microsoft Exchange. Email and contacts sync, calendar does not. This is known issue throughout Android phones (all kinds of posts all over the internet for the last 18 months -- with no answers). Apparently a system update can cause it.

I'm just one of the lucky ones affected. It has to do with the architecture of the Android OS and its lack of complete integration with ActiveSync.

I've tried everything from hard resets, factory resets, wiping, Odin, different installs of EC05, rooting, non-rooting ... nothing works. There are some purported Exchange server potential work-a-rounds. That's my next stop.

Unless and until Google provides stable syncing with MS ActiveSync, they will not be competitive with business users (and "no," I don't want to use TouchDown as substitute for the built-in ROM calendar app). That's very unfortunate for Android and phone users.
