sms sound changed by Ec05

Ec05 changed my default sms and email notification sounds to something that sounds like a spa rain forrest track. I don't even know where the sound is on my phone....very odd.

Same here. My SMS and email started defaulting to a Zedge sound i had downloaded. What finally worked was deleting Zedge, turning the phone off, and reloading from scratch.

GPS on the Epic 4G (EC05) is horrific.

When using the GPS module within an application, its always off by @ least 50 meters, but within Google Apps its usually pretty close.

Dont know if this is an application issue (Picture Geotagging, Four Square, Accuweather, Facebook) or a phone issue.

I did the original Froyo update about a month ago and after completion I noticed my phone now included a standard task killer app. I kept the one I downloaded from the markert (Advance Task Killer) just to have a back up, and the two seemed to work just fine.

Well there appears to be a problem with the Advance Task Killer app I downloaded from the market. After I completed the EC05 upgrade, I have to press the "kill selected apps" several times before the program closes down. Some times I have to force it close. Do I really need this app? I mean the phone comes with one thanks to Froyo. If I don't need it, I will get rid of it.

Thanks in advance guys!!

No, you do not need it, if fact it might even cause so harm/malfunction on froyo 2.2.1 which tecnically does not need it as I understand - I actually use that same app on my Moment with eclair 2.1 at times and it works better with it - but it must be setup correctly!

I do not use any task killers on my epic with EC05.

Mine has always been good with DI18, EB13, and now EC05 - with the hard coded bug eliminated, you can actually see how accuracy dynamiclly(sp) rather than being a mystery, I have gotten down to a 3.3feet accuracy as my best - my average is 8.5'ish feet.

two items that bear noting:

1: I am getting random indications (icon in upper bar) that i have email when in fact I do not.

2: I am getting random notifications that apps have crashed - a short vibration followed by two more after a pause.

Anyone else???

please don't be offended but could that be an indication of a new text message? Froyo changed the new text icon to look like an email notification.

@keithvetter.. Do you have you update to Froyo now? Was it worth the wait in your opinion..

With ECO5, they added a new "RAM Manager" within the original "Task Manager." It has a Level 1 (end inactive applications) and Level 2 (end inactive and background applications) clear option. I decided to check this out, after performing Level 1 clear, it notified me that it closed nothing. (I had nothing running atm) So I tried Level 2 clear, and boom, my phone is broken.
...
So, EVERYONE BEWARE OF THE RAM MANAGER!!!! SPECIFICALLY LEVEL 2!!!! Anyone, Please let me know if you have had this, or know of this happening, thanks. I assume Im going to have to have Sprint store flash it or replace it.

This is a pretty big deal, and I'm suprised you aren't getting any response to this issue.

I thought it was pretty cool that they added L1 and L2 memory clearing, and I've been using it and experimenting with it quite a bit since the update, just to see what happens. When I first saw it I suspected something just like you describe.

So far, I haven't had any problems with it and I've been playing with it maybe a dozen times a day because I wondered if anything like what you describe was possible. I've done it with lots of different apps running, too. I even tried to kill syncing, voicemail and any system apps I can run in mid-process to see if maybe that might brick the phone. It's gotta be a system process that you killed.

I think there is an un-brick thread; did you try this?

My only gripe until hearing your story is that they don't clearly LABEL what L1 and L2 really are until after you click on the button. Woe upon the non-programmer who stumbles across it.

Your original Eclair also had this Task Manager. The new one is essentially the same with a few improvements. There is a lot of threads on whether you should use any other ATK on the Epic and it is my opinion that you really should not use any ATK other than the stock if you are running stock Froyo. Supposedly, the way android process run in the background, they don't consume any memory until they are used to do so. IMHO you don't need a 3rd party Task Killer.

Got the update Monday afternoon (3/28)...only problem I have is I have to do a battery pull to turn on WiFi. Then I can only turn it once after the pull but after that I can't turn it back on. Any ideas? I'm not rooted.

Wow, 15 pages, 1000 issues, and no one is having the same as me.... My first minor gripe is that after going from 2.1 to 2.2 ECO5, it lags when "waking up" from pressing the power button. Annoying, but oh well.

Now the MAJOR problem. All ECO5 users beware!! I never liked using market Task Killers, I really liked the Task Manager that was provided with Samsungs TouchWiz. Completely unusable and unresponsive to anything I try to do. It just vibrates erratically and pops up a notifiication of TWLauncher being force closed over and over and over again. I cannot perform a factory reset (since the phone doesnt work at all) and pulling the battery has accomplished nothing. Also, cannot do anything with it plugged into my computer. Others have said theyve used the Level 2 clear numerous times with no problems, but they all had previous 2.2 builds, none had tried it with ECO5. So, EVERYONE BEWARE OF THE RAM MANAGER!!!! SPECIFICALLY LEVEL 2!!!! Anyone, Please let me know if you have had this, or know of this happening, thanks. I assume Im going to have to have Sprint store flash it or replace it.

This shouldn't affect anything that would require you needing to goto Sprint. Doing level 2 only clears inactive and background processes. Something closed probably a system process that caused your phone to freeze or lockup. A simple battery pull and replace and it should boot up fine.

FYI, I never use this even though I know its there.. I have used it a few times and it works as it should shutting down inactive/background processes and I have no FC's or system freezes, errors...

My google navigation can't lock on to a gps signal unless I open the sprint one first. Where can I delete and redowload google nav?

SCGeek15, sometimes the GPS (at least on EB13) would not lock until I did a soft reboot. Maybe you should download GPS status and see if it is actually the GPS failing to work rather than Google Nav. I think Sprint Nav is set up to use the network in case GPS is not up. If it is restart your phone and try it again. Also, make sure your compass is pointing in the right direction. If it's more than 90 degrees off and is acting very erratic, then you also need to do the upside down calibration.

EC05 last night 2am, ack!

Compass working again - EB13 great GPS, but compass was froze/locked.

Went to show buddy the Samsung Task Manager/Killer & noticed when I went to add to homescreen only shows widgets, shortcuts ect. - don't see Samsung Widgets like before.

Haven't Sprint ID'd yet and am rooted

I'm having a few weird things going on. First off random FC's of my launcher, messaging, and sprint id (which I don't use, turns out its crap).

Another issue is the phone, when powering down, takes forever to fully shut down.
My phone will randomly freeze after unlocking it, have to pull the battery.

I kinda want my EB-13 back. This update has not improved my peformance at all. :-(

Oh keyboard lag still present.

Thank you Keith but I do not get texts that often so I have neither texts or email when the icon sometimes shows up. Adn the 'app closing down' vibration is spooky as well- no one else getting that?

The big GPS bug confirmed by Sprint was the cache bug which was a bug on all Epics with DI18, just that whether you saw it was dependent on usage habits. It was addressed with the final version of EB13, but is back with EC05.

if you have a hotmail account setup as imap or exchange you will get a new mail notification even when mail goes to your junk mail folder.
