Locked out of my LG optimus android HELP :(

1. Turn off the phone entirely.
2. While holding the volume down and home buttons, press and hold the power button. You should see the LG logo, then a screen with some text.
3. Using the volume keys, select something along the lines of "wipe user data" or "format data" (NOT sdcard or system). This may be inside a menu.
4. Select this option using the menu or select key.
5. ???
6. Profit.

For what it is worth the 3 step process does work. However; I did it with no sd card installed! It did take me more than I try! But; I did do a reset to factory settings.:)

I have no Idea how to get into my phone, I forgot my lock combo! I recently put one on my phone and now I can't remember it. I got this phone handed down to me from a friend she wiped it clean when she gave it to me, so I never had to set up a google account because I never had internet access on it even though it is an android. Is there any other way to bypass my stupid password with out logging into a google account it's connected with or am I just screwed :/

I have tried the 3-button combo several times but it just keeps showing the LG logo repeatedly almost as if its powering off and on over and over again. Can anyone please help/advise what I am doing wrong?

i entered a wrong knock code and ive been locked out of my phone overnight. my data connectivity as well as my wifi is disabled. now i cant access the phone. tried the 3 combo...volume key down + home button + power button and the results are the same. as in, it displays the same input unlock pin / log in to google account to unlock with a "safe mode" written at the bottom left corner the screen. dont know what to do...need help urgently :'(

since this is a common problem I'll add a little information.
the power+volume down+home combo has to be held until after the lg logo shows and goes back to black or it may not actually try to boot into recovery.

I do that but it doesn't work it just turns on and off again
