love francos kernel

Franco said he's going to release a minor update (16.1) later today. If you haven't flashed 16 yet, might want to wait.

Yup. Some are having problems with dynamic. Also, don't do 350. That causes a lot of problems with 16.0.

Have you tried gaming or anything like that yet? I've been switching between 1000 and 1350, but I really want to know how it reacts under the stress of something like Shadowgun.

Also, on XDA Franco said not to check off both of the hotplugs; in theory, nothing should happen, for the only time both would ever be active would be screen_off. So I'd choose either or (I chose dynamic).

I've been playing Shadowgun all morning with the settings I listed earlier. Knocked it down to 1000max and didn't notice any difference in game play/graphics. Disclaimer: I've never played Shadowgun on any other device so I don't have anything to compare it too.

That being said, I couldn't ask for much more performance. Very pleased.

Now I just have to get a little (a lot) better at this game!

Yeah, I read someone said Franco (note: this is hearsay technically) said not to go below 700 for some reason. Can anyone confirm?

I can. I've heard the term "sweet spot" thrown around; essentially, through his testing, Franco believes that 700 is the best low mhz threshold because the phone, in "lay man's terms" barely breaks a sweat. At least that's my interpretation. If you're on XDA, the thread is riddled with this back and forth re: 350 v. 700. Good read...

Also, 16.1 is out, update people! francoGazelle now default governor. I'm staying away from dynamic HP for now.

16.1 is out and it seems MUCH better than 16.0. I'm currently on the FrancoGazelle Govenor. I heard there was some CPU hotplug issues or dyanamic hotplug on the 16 version

Yup. Me too; 700 min, 1200 max, Gazelle with mod enabled, dynamic off.

Just updated to 16.1, seems to be alot better, for some reason after the last update I lost wifi all of the sudden, was really weird... just did a batt pull and that seemed to fix it. I was running into issues as well with the update before this one.

So I installed this kernel, I'm 1hr 33 minutes on battery I'm down 10% all I did was play music while at the gym, local music at that. OCed to 1.35 and min set to 700 with the ondemand scalling. What am I doing wrong I only have the following scaling options:

interactive, francoGazelle, ondemand, FrancoTurtle, performance

You can not have performance with excellent battery. Its like asking for a 1000hp car with hybrid gas mileage. Just not gonna happen.

Oh I know but these were the settings people were suggesting for the best power/performance no?

Have you tried doing the same stuff with the "stock" or "default" settings? Might make a difference. the "francoNAME" governors are more conservative than the others, if I'm not mistaken.

I tried #16 yesterday without using the dynamic hotplug and had 2 random reboots within the first 10 minutes. I am not sure if it was the new app or the kernel causing the issue. The second time, my screen did like a pop flash and then rebooted. I went and found my 15.2 kernel and reinstalled that. No problems since.
In the short time I had #16 installed, I noticed lower benchmarks as well.

I noticed lower benchmarks as well.

When I had 16 running yesterday I couldn't get Quadrant scores above 2200, but I thought it was performing fine. When I upgraded to 16.1 last night my Quadrant scores immediately shot to very near 3300 (the highest I've got with the phone). I obviously care about real world performance more, but it was interesting how the numbers changed that dramatically.

To those of you having battery "problems" you may not want to be running at 1350, but if you decide to do that try using the franoWHATEVER governors dmmarck mentioned above. I was running turtle but in the 16.1 changelog he mentions that the default is now gazelle.

Yup. And from what I gather, little to no explanation as why FG and not FT is the default. He said it was mostly semantic, or something along those lines?

I believe it was so people wouldn't have one of the cores disabled. If you had a franco turtle as your governor and were using dynamic hot plug and changed the governor while one of the cpus was off it never cut back on from what I understand so people weren't getting too great of performance when switching governors because both processors weren't running when they should have been.

After much reading, I decided to give Franco's kernel a try. I'm on AOKP Milestone 3. I'm using FrancoGazelle, min/max set at 700/1200. Hot plug mod enabled. So far... just sitting on my desk here, I'm down to 91% just after 17 mins of being unplugged... Total screen time on: 8mins. I have LTE disabled since I get a fairly weak signal inside the building. Wi-Fi is off and GPS is off. So far... not that impressed with this battery drain. I'm also have the extended battery installed.
