M8 Prime (@evleaks)

I really don't know why HTC would do this. Samsung can move to a metal body, sure, and they release all kinds of niche variations, so it wouldn't be crazy for them to. But HTC? They could move to a harder metal that doesn't scratch as easily, but they're already using metal, so it probably won't be much of a visual or handling change at all. They just released the M8 with Sense 6, so it seems pretty soon to have a 6.5 or such to differentiate itself. And there isn't a new version of Android (yet) that it could launch with. They tweaked the same (better) sensor from the later M7s for the M8, so maybe it could have the next step up. But, besides that it would be pretty much spec bumps. I'd guess that if this really is a thing, that it wouldn't come out so soon. If it did then it would just be like, well why didn't they just try to push all of it into the M8? It could also be called Prime, but actually be this years Max. I don't know though. I mean, I don't see them really doing THAT well commercially. They'll probably be even more expensive then the current flagships, and it'll either cannibalize part of their current flagship's sales, or not sell, because the companies will sacrifice their marketing power for it in favor of keeping momentum of the current flagships.

What's up to all.

My first post, although I have been living in the shadows, I've been reading the site for years.

For me, the "Prime" series would be my next purchase. I skipped the M7. I'm skipping the M8. I considered the Harmon Kardon M8 because I'm still on contract with Sprint (Lol, my not be for long as I have a few months left Spark or no Spark). I like the M7 and M8, but there are things still missing like a better camera with the M7, a better camera with OIS on the M8, 3000+ battery and a bigger screen. Definitely want a 5.5 screen. Nothing bigger. Just 5.5 with a more vivid display. More of a phablet that I can use at work or when I want to play around with music and media. I was using Samsung loyally back in the days of flip phones and I moved over to HTC with the birth of EVO. I stuck with HTC for the build, Sense and the experience. Samsung has continued to add a lot of innovation to their Galaxy line that I missed out on (along with a lot of gimmickry and bloat). I almost moved back to Sammy to use the Note 3. Now I'm looking at the Note 4. If this rumored M8 Prime is the new One Max in a smaller form factor, a 5.5 screen, with better features, some new techno and the premium build -- I'm all in and I would strongly consider buying it without contract to maintain my option of leaving Sprint for a network that actually gives me what it promises.

Because the largest screen is 5". And it's a narrow 5". It doesn't feel like a normal 5" screen.
I don't so much want the extra specs, but the M8 missed the mark on screen size and camera functionality.
But, all up in smoke for now. Bet this comes back in the fall when sales of the M8 and the Mini are falling off, and the Note 4, S5 Prime, G3 and Z2 are flooding the market.

What's the problem? You've got a Mini, the standard M8 (with a smallish 5" screen) and you put out a Max variant. It's all the M8 but you've delivered a range of screen sizes for all customers. That's called covering your bets. If they release it in the fall, there's no reason not to include a SD 805 or whatever is the most current. Thinking that you need to have at least one year of THE most current device is just weird in my mind. So you got a great device, you're happy...why be annoyed when something better comes out? Whether it's HTC, or someone else? That's just capitalism.

Not gonna happen according to evleaks. Shame. Gotta happen in the fall though.

That's only if this is turns out to be the Max though, which it's never really hinted at being. Remember, the One Max was 5.9" so if this actually did have a 5.5" screen they'd actually be releasing a much smaller Max, which I'm not complaining, but it would be going the complete opposite direction of the "larger phone" trend everyone (except sorta Moto) has been taking. It's possible since the One Max was kind of eh, but it seems just as likely that they'd actually have four sizes than replacing the One Max with this.

And I was strictly talking about if it were to release soon, as in before the end of August, and mostly before August even started. If this were to release in Fall, it wouldn't even be an issue. It is to people, because it seemed like it was coming very soon. In this situation that's like saying if I make a product, and someone buys it, and 30 minutes later I release a better version for the same amount, and then I continue to do so every day, as long as I'm making a profit that person has no right to complain, because oh well that's capitalism. If the time was never known, that would be alright, but with that specific context it becomes a grey area that's debatable and becomes an issue. Or here's a more delicious example that I know actually happens to people (including myself): when you go to Sam's Club or any place with pizza (or just food in general) where you choose a slice that's been sitting out, but you choose this particular one because it's the only kind they have you like, and then literally as you're walking away with pizza in hand, they put down a fresh new pie. I mean, obviously you should be at least somewhat contempt because you got what you wanted, but a lot of people just won't help but feel irked by it. I'm not that person though, I just laugh because I think everything is funny, and then I swallow the pizza whole.

And I bought a Thunderbolt after the S3 and One X were already out, so no one can talk to me about needing the latest and greatest, lol.

Well, it would have been another option for those that want a bigger premium device with the basic internal specs of the M8. I'm leaving Sprint and moving over to Verizon and getting the M8 along with some guaranteed network coverage, reliability and peace of mind. My cell bill is going to go up and no more "unlimited" data, but I can't take another day of outrageous customer service, inferior cell service and mismanagement leading to slow as molasses network upgrades using the please be patient five year plan.

Wow. From what I hear, you'd be going from bad to worse. Plus, you're locked on a CDMA system so no flipping out SIM cards or using it when you travel abroad.

Re: HTC One m8 prime?

Even if it were the exact same specs as the M8, but had a 5.5 - 6" screen, I'd take it.
I love the design and the speakers, I really do.
But I may end up getting a Note 3 until HTC decides there's enough of a market in the fall with the Note 4, Galaxy S Prime, LG G3 and Sony X2 all on the market. They would have to be on very bad drugs to not do so. The X2 leaves me cold, and the G3 won't have speakers on it, so...

It is fun to dream about perfect devices though.
M8 BIG One: Aluminum shockproof case, Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM, 64 GB internal, 5.7" 1980 screen, MicroSD, 3500 mAh removable battery, louder/better speakers, dual SIM, waterproof, with an on-board file manager that works thru KitKat nonsense.

How, who and where did you ever hear that Verizon is worse than Sprint?! Sprint has to be the worst network on this planet -- and up on the moon too. Sprint guarantees promises. Verizon guarantees reliable service. As far as looked in with CDMA, I'm not an international traveller, drug smuggler or trying to get across the border so I'm not sweating any of that. I'm too busy trying to handle and keep my US business straight. For those that have it like that, go for the GSM flavors. Most hard working folks can't find the time or the funds to travel to a different city in the contiguous continental US in this mucked up economy.

Man, I was really hoping for this. I REALLY want an M8 with an improved camera. That would be my perfect phone. I'm ready to make a purchase, but the camera on the M8 has me hesitant, and considering the G3.

Edit: Maybe it will have to be a M8 with a QX10 for me. :)
