Maybe carriers and manufacturers are making a killing off of payment/leasing programs like TMobile's Jump in the US. *shrugs*
I don`t know if that`s an answer.

I really don't know why HTC would do this. Samsung can move to a metal body, sure, and they release all kinds of niche variations, so it wouldn't be crazy for them to. But HTC? They could move to a harder metal that doesn't scratch as easily, but they're already using metal, so it probably won't be much of a visual or handling change at all. They just released the M8 with Sense 6, so it seems pretty soon to have a 6.5 or such to differentiate itself. And there isn't a new version of Android (yet) that it could launch with. They tweaked the same (better) sensor from the later M7s for the M8, so maybe it could have the next step up. But, besides that it would be pretty much spec bumps. I'd guess that if this really is a thing, that it wouldn't come out so soon. If it did then it would just be like, well why didn't they just try to push all of it into the M8? It could also be called Prime, but actually be this years Max. I don't know though. I mean, I don't see them really doing THAT well commercially. They'll probably be even more expensive then the current flagships, and it'll either cannibalize part of their current flagship's sales, or not sell, because the companies will sacrifice their marketing power for it in favor of keeping momentum of the current flagships.
What's up to all.
My first post, although I have been living in the shadows, I've been reading the site for years.
For me, the "Prime" series would be my next purchase. I skipped the M7. I'm skipping the M8. I considered the Harmon Kardon M8 because I'm still on contract with Sprint (Lol, my not be for long as I have a few months left Spark or no Spark). I like the M7 and M8, but there are things still missing like a better camera with the M7, a better camera with OIS on the M8, 3000+ battery and a bigger screen. Definitely want a 5.5 screen. Nothing bigger. Just 5.5 with a more vivid display. More of a phablet that I can use at work or when I want to play around with music and media. I was using Samsung loyally back in the days of flip phones and I moved over to HTC with the birth of EVO. I stuck with HTC for the build, Sense and the experience. Samsung has continued to add a lot of innovation to their Galaxy line that I missed out on (along with a lot of gimmickry and bloat). I almost moved back to Sammy to use the Note 3. Now I'm looking at the Note 4. If this rumored M8 Prime is the new One Max in a smaller form factor, a 5.5 screen, with better features, some new techno and the premium build -- I'm all in and I would strongly consider buying it without contract to maintain my option of leaving Sprint for a network that actually gives me what it promises.
What's the problem? You've got a Mini, the standard M8 (with a smallish 5" screen) and you put out a Max variant. It's all the M8 but you've delivered a range of screen sizes for all customers. That's called covering your bets. If they release it in the fall, there's no reason not to include a SD 805 or whatever is the most current. Thinking that you need to have at least one year of THE most current device is just weird in my mind. So you got a great device, you're happy...why be annoyed when something better comes out? Whether it's HTC, or someone else? That's just capitalism.
Not gonna happen according to evleaks. Shame. Gotta happen in the fall though.
Well, it would have been another option for those that want a bigger premium device with the basic internal specs of the M8. I'm leaving Sprint and moving over to Verizon and getting the M8 along with some guaranteed network coverage, reliability and peace of mind. My cell bill is going to go up and no more "unlimited" data, but I can't take another day of outrageous customer service, inferior cell service and mismanagement leading to slow as molasses network upgrades using the please be patient five year plan.
Wow. From what I hear, you'd be going from bad to worse. Plus, you're locked on a CDMA system so no flipping out SIM cards or using it when you travel abroad.
