[MAC METHOD] Root,Unroot & Unlock Your VZ Galaxy Nexus

I'm on an iMac. I got to the part where I type ./fastboot oem unlock and the computer says "waiting for device", but nothing happens on my phone.

Ideas?

Side note, I do have a PC. Is it easier via PC?

enter this command and see if it recognizes your phone =
Code:
./adb devices

also, make sure you have usb debugging checked on your phone in settings>dev options.

you could also try a different usb cord or port or both.

I'll be happy to help once I get home later tonight. I can't remember what I did off the top of my head. Are you using the USB cable that came with your phone. I know using a third party one stalled me for a minute.

This is what I get with that command

List of devices attached
016B7E950100F006 device

So I assume that means it recognizes it?

USB debugging is checked btw.

Uhhhhh....... I don't even know what that is. Did I miss that step in the directions?

enter this command:

./adb reboot bootloader

your phone should boot into fastboot mode, and then you can enter fastboot commands in the terminal and they should work

Ah HA!!! That worked. Now if only the rest goes that easy. I was hoping to start this at 11am not 11pm just in case I bricked my phone.

It should all go smoothly from there. It really will only take like five min.

the hardest part initially is figuring out how to use the terminal and getting everything set up.

everything else is a breeze.

I'll try and stay as positive as you are about it. :-) I still have to get and flash the rom

for roms i would suggest, at this time, aokp m5 or the lastest axiom build.
aokp can be dl'ed from here: Milestone 5 - Releases - Releases - News
and the axiom thread is maintained by dmmarck, found in this subforum.

we have an aokp thread as well i just dont know if the links are up to date.

anyway, for rom flashing i suggest you check out the [Guide] written by cyber warrior - that will get ya started with everything you need to know about backing up (nandroids) in cwm, flashing roms, mods, kernels, etc.

Good luck!

Great. Thanks. I think that was the one I was planning on getting. I think I'm back up from rooting. Phone obviously wiped and I had to re-enter my info. Now onward...

Im on AOKP with Francos kernel. Seem to be the consensus best rom/kernel combo. I also flashed the 4.0.4 radio on it. Doing really good. I have been dealing with data issues here in Phoneix today though.

When I reboot into recovery to flash the rom I seem to be stuck on a screen with the open android guy with an exclamation point on him and then after about a minute the phone just rebooted as normal. Did I miss something there?

Or can I just flash it using Rom manager and skip the reboot into recovery stuff?

I read somewhere that you have to hold the up and down volume down as you press the 'reboot into recovery' in ROM manager but I'm still getting the exclamation point guy

Nevermind. I turned the phone off and got into it when I turned it on
