Major Bionic Issues, Anyone else?

It may be individual apps, because not all apps moved to the media storage go bad. And I don't use apps2SD, so its not that.

Or it could be a bug in the phone after all :( I also have a Droid 3 with the same software (same Android and same Motoblur) and don't have that issue there so I don't think this has anything to do with a fundamental change in Android.

Will floral scented Raid take care of my bug problem in my Bionic? I

Like I had mentioned earlier it could be the signal. I would try it on 3G and see if keeping it on CDMA works better than having the device choose which signal to use. Some areas of the network may not be perfect and the phone is trying to find the best signal to use. I don't have 4G in my home area and keeping it at CDMA does make it work better for me.

You should move down here to the flatlands instead of hanging on to the side of a mountain.

Two major issues have crept up on me; of course, both started after my 14 day period to return had passed

1. Data drop - phone will randomly lose all data connection. Sometimes (most times?) it will happen if I switch to 3G mode; there will be no mobile data available. If I switch back to 4G, it will connect to the internet again. Other times it just loses data no matter what mode it's in.

2. Forced reboot - this has happened twice over the past couple of days. The phone is locked in my pocket, and I take the phone out, turn the screen on, and swipe to unlock. The phone freezes for a few seconds and then reboots. I don't have anything installed that might affect it (no widget unlocker, non rooted, no juice defender, no task killer). The only thing that may affect it is the stock Moto task manager, which has things on auto-kill.

These are the same issues that i had with the OP phone. Well some of them. I had others. The forced reboots im not sure how to fix. To help with the data drop offs you can download LTE switch. This will give you a widget to toggle 4g. Keep LTE off unless you need it. This will limit the number of hand offs you will have and will extend battery life. If the problem gets worse i would consider exchanging the phone for another bionic, even if its after the 14 day mark.

Just a follow-up. I've had two (2) Bionics since the opening date of 9/8. Both of them exhibited extreme problems. 1) Drops apps (2-8 at a time) everytime you shut it off, n o matter where they are stored. 2) Shuts itself off, 3) Reboots itself for no reason after I shut it off 20 minutes earlier 4) Screen freezes and nothing will work , except removing the battery fixes this (at which time I lose more apps). This happens on a daily basis. I started with Verizon who gave me a run-around and then said it was a Motorola problem. Motorola washed their hands and said it was a Verizon problem. After trying the normal customer service (really a misnomer) I do what I've done in the past with poor responses from the bottom, I contacted the top via email. That same day i got a call from Verizon Corporate being all apologetic, and agreed to refund everything, phone and all accesories even though I was into my 4th week (2 weeks beyond the normal return period). So at this time I'm back with my DROID2 that has worked perfectly for 1.5 yrs and plan on keeping it forever. I'm tired of being a beta-tester for Verizon/Motorola!

If you wish some form of response instead of the cust. service dance, contact Exec Relations @ Verizon 203-741-7486

Phone keeps randomly rebooting. Yesterday i was in the kitchen and I had my phone in my pocket. I heard some weird sounds but I wasnt sure what it was, until I realized it was the Bionic's robotic sound FX that it makes when it reboots. From what I've seen, it happens at least 2-3x a week, but who knows it may be happening a lot more and I don't realize it. Quite annoying.

I have LTE switch installed already - that's how I can tell that switching to 3G kills data altogether. If things get worse, I might switch it, although getting a refurb is not ideal

I picked up the Bionic 3 days ago and I'm having the same 3g/4g data connectivity issues. I just got off the phone with Verizon Tier II Tech Support. It appears it's an issue nationwide and is under investigation by Motorola. They're calling it "Marginal 3G/4G". The tentative release for an OTA to fix the bug is the first week of November. That's "Tentative" of course. For right now, they are suggesting a battery pull but most of the time it can be reset by putting the phone into Airplane mode, then back to normal. I found a simple shutdown/reboot doesn't work but the battery pull did. I'm going to try putting it into Airplane mode the next time and see what happens. Shame Moto didn't catch this before, but not much we can do for the moment. :'( Hope this helps.

This is the only reason i was able to catch reboots when they happened. The Bionic Boot animation sound. If there was no sound there i would have missed most of the reboots. Id be watching tv with the phone next to me and i here the boot animation sound. Good thing they put it there.

Mine reboots about once a day or so, but not usually when i'm using it. I'll have it on my desk in class on vibrate and something catches my eyes, the Motorola Dual Core is on the screen and it makes the animation sound so everyone in class looked at me, including the professor. Embarassing and it was still on vibrate when it came on, so i'm confused as to why it made the sound.

I remember Steve Austin and Jaimie Summers had major bionic, issues to. Especially in extreme cold.

Hi, I?m a Charge owner but decided to take a look at what issues were coming up with the Bionic and I?m glad I did. I have been having the same issue with losing data. Streaming video or reading online, 4G on with 3 out of 5 bars. But if the phone temp (according to my battery monitor app) reached 107? - 109? the 4G would turn off and eventually 3G would turn on but not always work.

When I started to lose all services Verizon sent me a new phone.

The ?like new? replacement started having some of the data switching issues and I was told by Tier II Tech Support that I needed to have the ?Data roaming? option selected to speed up the 4G/3G handoff. This has helped for a week now so I hope that was it.

If the Bionic also has the same problem, it is starting to sound like a Verizon 4G issue not a Samsung or Motorola issue to me.

I just switched from Thunderbolt to Bionic. The four TB's that I had position of all exhibited the same exact behavior wrt loss of all data and not connecting to 3G. If it did connect to 3G network frequently I wouldn't be able to reach any external sites.
I haven't done the research but if the same LTE architecture is employed on the chip set for these phones then changing brands is not going to help this is a network issue.
That said the Bionic was a free upgrade from VZW and it has already demonstrated loss of 4G a few times. At this point switching in to and out of airplane mode seems to restore the connectivity. :-\

i will be getting my THIRD Bionic this week! i have had major issues. The main one is the loss of data connection, the little orange triangle, almost every day. Also, when i used Verizon's Backup Assistant, it only brought 60 of my 740 contacts, with none of the e-mail addresses. Then i had them do it again and it doubled all of them and when i tried to delete them, on the computer and on the phone, it cloned them into 30 copies. Also, i keep getting apps i didn't download. Also, in the contact groups, when i try to delete one person, it deletes it completely from all the contact lists and it brings up another one from the regular contact list. i have spent about 50 hours with Verizon on the phone and keep getting different stories: it must be the apps (i only have 15!), it must be the operating system, so call Google, it must be a bad phone.... i told them, i have now had 2 bad phones and i am sick of being the test guinea pig for them. Don't put a product out until it is working! i love the phone other than these major issues and the fact that Verizon employees are sooooo untrained. I finally spoke to Motorola and they said if this one doesn't work, they will send pre-paid packaging to me so i can send it back for 5 days and they will completely go through the phone. i said i am so tired of spending time on issues that should not be an issue and should be simple fixes. i have had to remove the battery a couple of times to get it to power off, also. So, buyer beware. Is it worth $300? nah

My suggestion for the contacts syncing would be to stop using the verizon backup for your contact backup and just use Gmail sync. Sounds like gmail and the verizon backup are fighting each other and this will cause the device to not sync correctly.

To fix this disable verizon backup. Go to the accounts menu under settings and make sure your gmail account is set to sync contacts. Then go to gmail via a computer and edit your contacts as needed. Any changes made via gmail should filter down to the phone. (This is not always immediate so dont flip out if it does not take right away)

I personally just use Gmail sync to backup contacts, nothing else.

EDIT: When in the account menu under settings disable anything else you have linked to your phone that handles contacts. Just disable the contacts portion if you can. Im not sure what else you have on your phone, but when it syncs contacts its usually listed there.

Also if you are using facebook, dont allow facebook to sync with your contacts until you are done making your changes, as this app also messes with the contacts when its installed.

As far as your signal issues. Welcome to the club. Alot of people have had "Handoff" issues when using the phone. Placing the phone in airport mode, then turning it off again usually fixes this issue. If it doesnt then a battery pull may be necessary. A fix is coming in November i hear to fix this issue so hold tight.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

My Bionic Just DIED! Was watching a YouTube video when it froze up. Menu would not respond. So i hit the power button and did get the option to shutdown. Shut the phone down. Will not restart. I do have two of these so i experimented a bit. My good phone will not boot when battery from the bad phone is used. The bad phone will not boot with a battery from the good phone. So..... seems the battery and phone died. Verizon sending out another one.
