Majority of Android phones are not "junk" phones

I guess that it depends on what video that you watch. Notice at about the 1:12 mark that he talks about stuttering on the N5.
But it all comes down to what works best for you.
He is talking about a specific app, not the UI in general. "Google Earth" is not Android. It's an app on Android.

And the app did open faster.

I'm speaking of the whole video, not one app. The 5s was faster.
If you read my original post, all I said was that it is not my opinion. I cited a video that showed the Nexus as being faster. I never asked anyone to take my word for it.

In your example video, it never actually showed a timer. But Google Earth did load at the same speed on both devices. At best your video demonstrates that those apps are better optimized for the iPhone...not that the iPhone UI is faster.

Here is a video I just took of Google Earth and the Rdio app...I use both apps. I am not seeing those stutters on my version. (Sorry for the quality...I took it with my Asus Tablet....it's an old Transformer and has a crappy camera).

Google Earth and Rdio on Nexus 5 - YouTube

So I have to wonder if the guy had some weird app installed that was messing with his performance or something. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt he's just incompetent and not necessarily biased.

EDIT - Off topic, but I like what Youtube has done. The auto-suggestion feature for tagging makes tagging MUCH easier. The old way was a pain and I never bothered because of that.

The guy stated a time that was about 20 seconds slower than the 5s, so yes, the 5s was faster.

So I'm the only one with this crackpot theory that Samsung is positioning themselves to try to replace Android on their devices with Tizen? That it showed up on their new wearables and they are trying to roll out Tizen-based phones in various markets... nothing to see here....

You are right nothing to see here. If anything they want to build Tizen up before going all in with it. We don't even have Tizen phones on the market yet.

I was under the impression that the newest set of Galaxy gear watches were Tizen.

I think the reason (whether true or not) an OS like iOS or WP can make any speed claims over android was covered already very early in this thread so but apparently as all threads go it was forgotten. Functionality and capability will always cause a larger performance hit than simplicity.
Having said that, the difference is so unnoticed on recent Android versions as to be a non issue now in my books and most others I suspect. Given a choice of more capability or a minute reduction in speed, I'll choose android every single time.

That is because the N5 timer malfunctioned.:)
But I could see that the 5s was faster with my own two eyes. Couldn't you?
The apps that the "test"said were slow are not slow on my own phone. Thats what my own eyes tell me.

Watch the video and tell me what your eyes see. These are the apps that took forever to open on the Nexus in your video...on my phone they seem to open immediately. Who should I believe more? You tell me.

Are we really having this discussion here? Right now?

As for low end devices, it seems to be a mixed bag. A tablet that was ~$80 USD had trouble with most basic tasks. It was about as bad as my four year iPod in some cases ? press power button, wait a couple seconds for the screen to turn on.

My friend has a cheap tracfone, an old version of the zte valet, I believe, and it performed fairly well. It's no comparison to my Nexus 7, but it's the same price as the Dragon Touch Y88, and it performed noticeably better.
(Just an odd thing I've noticed about that tablet though... The Amazon page shows it with stock android, but the actual thing has a modified version...)

Just not as fast as the 5s. :)

Who cares in the end? Your average consumer won't notice so why die sit matter? This argument is not going anywhere. They both are weak slow phones compared to the Ubuntu phones that are to come soon. Minds will be blown.

You can not get these speeds on the iPhone 5s on mobile data.
