Making custom ringtones

So I bought a song from Google play music, and I'm trying to make a custom ringtone out of it and then use Google hangouts. However when I ever I try to set the ringtone for my contact in Google Hangouts, new ringtone doesn't make any sound in the application.. I wanted to work does anyone know what I can do? I've tried everything ll.. Thanks.

I had to DL to my PC ( I think u can up to 3 times) then copy to my phone and it allowed me to use it.

So I guess instructions online were correct then. Lol weird process though but OK. Thanks.

Does the Ringdroid app still work? It was one of my first installs years ago. Ultimately, I just did the audio editing on desktop and copied everything to the cloud so I could reuse from device to device.
