Manually Apply 2.0.1 Update WORKING

i've tried a variety of sources. i even tried saving the download directly onto the sd card and naming it update.zip. so as soon as it was downloaded it was where it needed to be and everything. same error.

Does anyone else's buttons at the bottom of the screen stay lit up after the update now? Same thing with the physical keyboard, and they never turn off till I lock the phone.

for anyone trying to download the zip from the droid, you might first need to install an unzip program. If someone knows how to download the zip file without an unzip app installed, please chime in. For me, when i iniitally downloaded from the stock browser or dolphin browser, the download manager would say the phone does not support this content and that the download failed. I then installed an unzip app and it then worked.

All that said, for those having issues with verifying the existing build in manually installing, I do not think there is a solution other than waiting for automatic update for now.

Ok, so I installed the update and I installed the root zip file but did nothing further with the root... Will I still be able to get future OTA updates?
Also noticed that it uninstalled a few of my apps.. But seems to be working fine! If someone wants to PM me with info, or respond on here...

My shortcut would not work on my home screen for the Gallery. I deleted it and put it on again and it works fine now. The update must have replaced/updated the gallery portion of the system.

Same thing for me with my Gallery Shortcut...I did same thing (delete it from home screen) and put back on again and it works GOOD!!!;)

I dowloadd the zip. Then I downloaded astro manager. Then I went into astro and it was there.changed the name to update. Shut it off and did the update. BTW. I was having. Same problem s before. Good to go now.

man this is really starting to piss me off

i've got some dolt on another forum that keeps telling me over and over, "no, rename it to just update and it will work"

Me too. I even gave him ls output from terminal when I mounted my phone...

Hey, I also tried to PM you to compare notes. Maybe we can figure out what's similar between our two phones.

maybe check the current build number and baseband version in settings -> about phone menu at bottom. I don't know what the values were unfortunately before I updated but someone else that hasn't updated yet may be able to provide, and maybe they are different then yours. Just a shot in the dark, but can't think of anything else you can really use to compare or diagnose unless you know how the OS works.

I was content to wait, but decided to give the manual update a try while putting off looking at some stuff at work. Smooth as silk. The only thing I forgot to do was remove the zip file from my root directory when I was finished. (runs off the get phone and USB cable)

I don't really notice any better smoothness after the update. I probably preferred the old lock screen from an aesthetic point of view, but I am guessing they wanted it more intuitive for new users, which I suppose this new one is.

Hey Guy's,
I'm still waiting for the update, so can anyone please update if th
e echo during the calls is taken care in 2.1?
Thanks

sounds as though there isnt anything to be excited about.. guess ill just wait for the ota update

Thanks jermey, I'm having the echo problem, especially for incoming calls, now it makes me think even more...

I did it. I'm a Mac and I did have to download it in Firefox. Safari would unzip it. Don't know if this helps anyone.

signal stregnth still good 4 me,and im in the boonies. this is not as technical as everyone is making it. its a very simple update now that i figured how to do it. i downloaded it from my phone, then downloaded astro from the market. it was in astro when i opened it,then i changed the name to just update. then i shut off phone and restarted holding x, then i went to install update on that weird screen. and done. (altho it took me several times to do it. now its all done and running good.)
